Club Captains Report I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year and are now looking forward to a great year’s motoring in their vintage vehicles. Our first event for the year was the Coastal Run on Sunday 13th, which attracted 27 entries. This included some new members & potential members. The views along that coastline are wonderful – with Alec, Ellen & Paul taking a closer look with a dip in the sea. A little hiccup with the lunch stop, but I am sure everyone enjoyed their day. Thanks Simon for organising it. Later this month we have our Stretched Gymkhana which was very popular last time . We have a new venue this year at Solway Showgrounds which will be at least as good, if not better. Please get your entries in as numbers are limited and you won’t want to miss out. February 10th we have our Remembrance Run, please support this event. March 9th is our major event for the year, the annual Rex Porter Rally. An all day rally with a long & a short route available. Lunch in a Martinborough Park & dinner/ prizegiving at the Services Club in Masterton. A revised entry form is in this magazine, or online – entries close 23rd February. We need your entry. FRANCIS

VINTAGE CAR CLUB OF NEW ZEALAND (INC) WAIRARAPA BRANCH REX PORTER MEMORIAL RALLY SATURDAY 9TH MARCH 2019
The late Rex Porter, foundation member & Past President of the Wairarapa Branch, joined the Vintage Car Club of NZ (Inc) in 1955 as a member of the Wanganui Branch, being the nearest to Wairarapa in those days. It is to this pioneer motorist, Veteran enthusiast and noted club member, we dedicate this rally. 8
THE RALLY: The Rally assembly point is at the Vintage Car Clubrooms at Clareville A & P complex. Rally briefing at 9.30am. First vehicle away at 10.00am. This is an all day event with two competitive routes. The Short Route is approx. 80 miles and the Long Route approx. 110 miles. Both routes contain a variation in terrain and surfaces, the competitor to choose which route they wish to travel. If there are insufficient entries in any one class, they may be combined. Lunch stop is at a picturesque park with large shelter trees but no other facilities. Toilets are a block away – directions will be in your rally pack. PLEASE BRING A PICNIC LUNCH. The evening Dinner and Presentation is at the Wairarapa Services & Citizen Club, 20 Essex Street, Masterton 6pm

The event is open to financial members of the VCC of NZ (Inc) Traffic regulations must be strictly observed. Each vehicle must be up to the Club’s accepted standards regarding general condition. At least one member must be a financial member of the VCC of NZ (Inc). Membership card must be available. Failure to stop at a checkpoint may incur penalty points. We advise that you carry a fire extinguisher. Any entrant found using any electronic navigation devise may be disqualified.

MANAWATU BRANCH RUAHINE RAMBLE – 2rd March 2019 Meet at the Coach House Museum, 121 South Street, Feilding at 8.45 am for a hot drink before the 9.15 am briefing. The Ruahine Ramble will this year again not cross the ranges and will follow the theme of recent years – that of an easy relaxing non-competitive outing. The morning route is an easy one of approx. 68 miles (110 Kms) through rolling countryside which will suit vehicles of all VCC Vehicle Classifications. The afternoon run back to Palmerston North is approx. 30 miles (46 Kms) and provides for stopping at a Café on the way back for those who may wish to do so. There are no unsealed roads on this Ramble and the route passes a couple of public conveniences. Petrol is available at the end of the morning section. Like last year, there is no straight line navigation. If for whatever reason you are unable to (or don’t wish to) bring your vintage on the Ramble then come along in your modern. Bring your own lunch, hot water etc., plus chairs, picnic rug or whatever - to help you settle in for an enjoyable lunch stop. But if the weather is against us – or if you wish to have your lunch out of the sun there is a comfortable sheltered area with chairs and tables which will be at our disposal. 18
As the Ramble ends for lunch at gardens with over ten acres to explore, consider bringing some comfortable walking shoes. If you would like the form emailed to you so that you can avoid having to cut into your Tourer, email the Rally Organiser requesting that a PDF version be emailed to you. Alternatively forget the form and just send an email to the Rally Organiser with all of the details that are requested on the form included in the email text.

If you wish to participate in any National VCC event, you need to have a Vehicle Identification Certificate.
