From the Chair Happy New Year to you All,
Our summer continues to offer some lovely days for holidaying and enjoying the company of friends and relations. With four family birthdays around Anniversary Weekend, we have found ourselves travelling to and spending time in, Palmerston North. My English grandson has had to celebrate becoming a teenager in lockdown which makes us conscious of how lucky we are to be living here in New Zealand. Earl and I have not been away yet, but we have had some enjoyable days out while keeping on top of the garden.
It was great to see so many on the Coastal Run (thank-you Simon) and the picnic by the sea was lovely. In a break with tradition, the Committee got together with the Motor Cycle Rally Committee last week to coordinate progress and then to set the calendar of events for the year. We hope that the membership enjoy what we have planned. It is going to be

a big year for the Club – hosting a National Rally takes a lot of commitment from the organising committee and I call upon everyone to give your support and encouragement as much as you can.
We thought we would start the year off with a Twilight Meander to take advantage of the light evenings before Daylight Saving ends. This is not a rally, but a (hopefully) pleasant evening drive. We will start at the Clubrooms at 7.30 on Monday night and ‘meander’ for about an hour. I have been reminded that I owe Peter Groves and family an apology for referring erroneously to the Janet Groves Rally. It is, of course, the Janice Groves Rally, named after Peter’s first wife. Peter, please forgive my carelessness. To any members who are unwell, I send my good wishes for a speedy recovery and my condolences to those who have suffered bereavments over the holiday period. - Tina Goodin
From the Club Captain Hi all, I hope you all have had a happy and safe festive season. Our Christmas get together was a huge success, it was good to see our club rooms being used as it was built for. Val Ball and her volunteers did a fantastic job with the food and Simon having his Dodge in the downstairs garage was a good focal point. BUt I did hear a couple of comments of "wow this is the first time I have been in here I did not know it was here" The committee has had its first meeting for the year and have worked hard on putting a program together for the coming year, and to start we have a few things on for February so I hope as many members as possible can support them. Our March club night will be a briefing about the National Motorcycle Rally and I urge as many members as possible to attend as we will need volunteers to we can help make this event successful. At the committee meeting it was mentioned that we would like to put more fun into the club so I urge members that have any suggestions to not be shy and mention them. - Hugh Hunter

Recent Events Mangatainoka Vintage vs Brexit vs EU Car Day The Tui Brewery day was very well supported by our club, although not everyone brought their oldest cars (and wisely so because it rained all day) .Mike D’Alton (Bentley), Don Robbie (Model A) and Ian Lambess (Austin A90) were winners. Best in Show went to an Armstrong-Siddeley from Lower Hutt. This was out first time at the brewery, but it won’t be the last, hopefully with better weather next time.

Bob McKenzie, from Pahiatua, is a man of action. This 81-year-old is at the wheel of one of his two Porsches, this one a 1980 911 model. Bob has served in the military through several wars, his service including aviation, and is currently building his own aeroplane.

2021 Coastal Run Simon O'Hara's Coastal Run was a great success with more than 32 cars turning out on a lovely sunny day. Some members joined and dropped out en route, which made things interesting. While some lunched at the Lake Ferry pub, most parked up at the nearby picnic area, taking advantage of shady trees and nearby toilets.

Volunteers still needed to help 12th – 14th March The National VCC Motorcycle Rally is being held in Masterton 12th to 14th March, 2021. This event attracts vintage motorcycle riders from all over New Zealand and, if the borders allow, we already have five registrations from Australia. The committee has been working towards this event for over a year and it is now time to recruit volunteers from our club to help make this event a success. Club Nights . Monday February 1st Twilight Run A pleasant evening drive. Start at the Clubrooms at 7.30 on Monday night and ‘meander’ for about an hour. Followed by supper back at the clubrooms. Organised by Tina and Earl Goodin Monday March 1st The Motorcycle Rally committee will provide an update to members on this national event, which is being hosted by our Club later in the month. Monday April 5th (Easter Monday) Instead of a normal club night, Simon is organising an afternoon run to a local watering hole/eatery - details to come.

Other Notices and Events ART DECO FESTIVAL 2021 THE VETERANS ARE COMING Come to Napier and join the HBVCC for Art Deco 2021 from February 18th -21st. Kindly sponsored again this year by Euro City Ltd In 2021 the Featured Group will be Veteran Motor Vehicles (all will be over 100 years old). We are expecting 50 plus Veterans thus year and already have 25 Veteran entries as at 10 September. Cars, commercials, motorcycles, high-wheelers, steam , electric and petrol. Accommodation in Napier is already filling up for Art Deco Weekend so book now to avoid disappointment.
