Editor’s Snippet Hi All Once again we are reminded how we were getting comfortable in our Level 1 world, only to have the freedom taken away by someone's community infection in Auckland. I am reminded that this is only100km away. So the message is keep safe and keep each other safe. As a result of entering Level 2 we must maintain social distancing of 1 metre . This is why our AGM was cancelled in August. If things continue to improve we have rescheduled the AGM October 14, same place, same time, same subjects. Please join us then to make our 2020 AGM a success. This is my last Venture as Editor, a job which I have held for over 3 years . A big “thank you” to all the people who have contributed to make our Venture their monthly read of choice. We would still love to hear from anyone who has a new old vehicle in their collection. A quick note to the Editor and a photo (most phones have a good resolution) for publication in the magazine. Hope to see you all at the AGM as we set the Club for another great year along with any curved balls Covid 19 should happen to throw our way.

C h a ir m a n ’s C h a tter CHAIRMANS REPORT SEPTEMBER 2020
Well fellow members here we go again. Lockdown Level 3 for Auckland and Level 2 for the rest of New Zealand. That was the reason we postponed our AGM; the safety of our club members is the most important aspect of our club. I would urge all club members to take care and be kind to people. After seeking advice from our club Solicitor, I have decided that we need to give 21 days’ notice in writing to all our club members. The only way we can do this is via the “Venture”. So, the Branch AGM will be held on Wednesday 14th October as per the notice in the “Venture”. As your Branch Delegate I attended the Executive and AGM meetings, and my report is included in this “Venture”. As well as cancelling our AGM we have had to cancel our Daffodil Day which we were being joined by the BOP Branch. Hopefully we won’t have to cancel anything else. Our Road Runners section, which is a performance-based group that can travel at normal road speeds, is up and running. For further information please contact Robyn Doughty 07 8240184. The first outing is planned for the 4th October. Don’t forget the Vintage Venture Rally on the 19th September which is being organized by Steve and Cazna Payne. Entry forms are out so fill it in and send it back. Then on the 1st November it is the Veteran Rally, which this year is based at the Tower Museum in Matamata, this is being organized by yours truly, so watch this space. I would urge all members to seriously think about the 2022 Festival of Motoring. Due to the dreaded Covid thing it is highly likely that there will be no overseas entrants, so it is up to us to keep the numbers up to make the event a success. So, start making plans to be in New Plymouth in January 2022. I would like to give our new members a warm Waikato welcome, I hope to catch up with you all soon at a club night or on a club run. Secretary’s Report Ho Hum!! Here we go again, with Covid-19 Level 2 introduced to our area again. The first casualty was the AGM which had to be postponed very hurriedly. Many apologies to those of you who didn’t manage to receive my email in time, and turned up at the clubrooms to find the place in darkness and a locked gate. Please keep watching the emails sent through, as this is the only immediate way we can inform you of any new events or changes. C lu b C a p t a in Club Captain’s Report With our AGM needing to be postponed, the Daffodil Day Run and the Wednesday Wander trip to Toyota in Thames cancelled, it is disheartening that most of our motoring events could be in doubt, however we must follow the rules. Hopefully, it will be over by the time of Casna’s and Steve’s Vintage Venture Rally. It would be so good to see a good turn out of Vintage vehicles to support them. Unfortunately Rally rules make it silly for Bev and I to turn up with our favourite road legal vintage car. Chairman Graham’s thoughts on sections is proceeding well, with those who have an interest in fast club-eligible fast cars and bikes all set up. They have branded themselves ‘Road Runners’ and have their next run in October planned. Just thinking how different their vehicles are from our Veteran and Vintage ones. Instead of levers to control fuel mixture and ignition timing, a ‘thingy in a box’ does it and does it better. I would be so keen to see a Vintage/Veteran section set up. I listened to a member speaking against sections (not from our Branch) recently. Unfortunately he didn’t understand that it is our vehicles that are being given a section to belong to, not members being divided up, as he seemed to think. If a member whose interest is only in say, Veterans, but sees a different section outing that appeals, bring the modern and join in - just the same as Wednesday Wanders and Club Runs. The social side of our Club is very important as it complements all our different motoring activities. Thinking about our social side, there are some of us who don’t remember names as well as we would like. I would like to put in a plug for name tags to be worn. I know Jan reminded us about using them some time back, and I know they are easy to forget/misplace, but they are so handy for those of us who have difficulty in recalling a name.

Motorcycle Motor Cycle Section As I said last month I looked at the weather forecast two weeks out and the 19 th July looked OK, and it was, sunshine all day. We had 10 people turn up, 8 on bikes for a great 50 mile ride on back roads and hardly any traffic, until we got to Victoria Road on our way to the The Club House for a very enjoyable lunch. It was good to see Steve along after his accident, also Bryce and Ted who travelled some distance to join us. Our annual run to Tokoroa date as been confirmed as Saturday 17 th October and I have made the coffee and lunch stops bookings, will send out the entries next month. It would be good to have a ride out before the October’s outing. So I am proposing to I do the same as in July. Looking at the weather two weeks out and picking a Sunday that looks OK, then sending out an email to the M/C team. I have a run in mind, but so much depends on the Covid-19 out come, so keep your fingers crossed that we can get back to level one as soon as possible. About all for now, stay safe, Peter

I came across this story about Captain Tom’s motorcycle riding, looks as if he was good at rallying. I have done one of these and it is sometimes 24 hour events. Peter S

BREAKOUT DINNER Saturday 25th July Starting at 6.00pm, we all assembled in our various attire. Surprisingly, all who turned up were ‘dressed’ in different fashion, some in true fancy dress including Dr Norton and Florence (Nightingale) wielding dangerous looking swabs and in full anti-Covid outfits, others in truly beautiful dress-up style. It was a cold night, but with our newly installed heat pump it was comfortable inside. We were welcomed by Hugh and Bronya, who had made a fantastic job of decorating the tables. It is amazing how the clubrooms can be transformed into an inviting entertaining place. Being a Pot Luck dinner, we had an array of delicious dishes to choose from, including the most mouth-watering desserts. With the over generous pot-luck dishes I’m sure that we weren’t the only ones who overate! It was all-in-all a very friendly relaxing evening, although a bit disappointing that not more people were willing to brave the cold night, as they would have really enjoyed the evening. Well done and thank you, Bronya and Hugh, for organising a fun night with friends. 13
NATIONAL AGM AND EXCUTIVE MEETING. 2020 EXECUTIVE MEETING. Due to the dreaded Covid 19 outbreak this was the smallest Executive meeting I have ever attended. There were 3 apologies from the Management Committee and 25 Branches sent in apologies. It was raised that the “Common Seal “clause must be included in the Constitution and no brackets around the ÏNC”. Our Constitution does comply with these requirements. A query from North Otago regarding the National handling of spare parts. A possibility of a Data Base was raised. Southland Branch are hosting the 2023 National Motorcycle Rally in conjunction with the Burt Munro challenge. Branches were asked to try harder to find out the reason why members resign. No increase for National Subscriptions. The Annual Budget was approved. The 28th of August is the deadline for branch ley changes to be notified. The Calendar of Events was approved. March 20th, 2021 Executive meeting will be held at Mirama Golf Course. Easter rallies for North and South Islands for 2023 had no takers. National Vintage Rally will be held in the South Island over Easter 2021. The online membership is still being worked on. The 1st stage is to have an online membership form, removing the proposer and seconder. To set a fee of $100 and $15 for a joint membership. The branches receive their Levy and there is a wash up at the end of the year. The second stage was for the Executive to support the NOM, which was carried. The remit will be discussed at the March Executive Meeting. Health and safety requirements were outlined. Contact tracing is required, look at QR code for branches. All branches have a duty of care for a safe environment for all members. There is a check list for club events and the use of club rooms in the branch manual section 43A. Annual general meeting. Andy Anderson spoke of the team of 9,000 to all pull together with his usual enthusiasm. Re Branding will be discussed at the March Executive meeting. A reminder that it is not a name change only a Logo Change.
Rod Brayshaw was awarded Life Membership. This was very moving as Rod had suffered a severe stroke in February. John Comber was also awarded Life Membership No elections for officers was required. The new Secretary / Treasurer is Chris Lieth.. The Calendar of events will be sent out in the Dec/Jan issue of Beaded Wheels. Julie Cairns was presented with a gift and Bouquet of flowers for her 25 years of service to the VCC. All the reports were presented and received. Insurance for vehicles under repair was discussed. Parts out of vehicles, in storage, or being trailered may not be cover by your insurance so check what is covered and what is not. The 2022 Festival of Motoring needs promoting at branch level to make sure the event is a success. So far there has been 2, 70year, 49, 60year, 355, 50year certificates presented The Strategic Plan is still moving forward. It was discussed bringing other motoring clubs into the VCC. Use of the clubs Facebook page should be used for events publicity and photos of events. The John L Goddard Trophy was awarded to Don Muller for his work as the clubs Archivist. Next year’s AGM will be the clubs 75th Anniversary and will be hosted by the Canterbury Branch. This could be a 3-day event with a special activity on the Friday. GRAHAM PATE Delegate
