Editor’s Snippet Hi All The year is moving by at an alarming rate, Summer will soon be over as we approach Autumn. Before then we have the ever popular Ladies Rally. Wayne assures me it will be something a bit different. So get those entries in to Wayne (see last months Venture for Entry Form). Of course another popular event for car nutz is the Whangamata Beach Hop. This year it is on again 25-29 March. This is a great spectacle of Motoring and memorabilia. I guess that Queens Birthday Weekend is rolling around quickly also, this year it is the end of May. Please consider adding this to your must do list for this year as this event is our premium National Event, so help make it a success this year. More details next month along with an entry form. There have been so minor changes to the Clubs Constitution . These have been posted online on our website for your perusal. C h a ir m a n ’s C h a tter
March has now rolled around and at the end of March we will be a quarter of the way through the year. Quite a scary thought. Thanks to the club members who came out on the first club run of the year. Waitangi Day was a lovely hot and sunny day, just like everyday has been actually. We had the Top down to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. There were 16 cars on the run, lovely coffee at Ironique Café in Te Aroha then lunch at the “Railside By The Green” in Matamata, a relaxing day was had by all. Yes, the Triumph is going again, Rimmers in the UK came up with the correct Head Gasket so after 3 Head Gaskets all is good now. I would highly recommend Rimmers for British Car Parts. I apologize to members for changing the club night last month. All the information was not ready regarding the Branches shed project. The committee will endeavor to have everything ready for members to discuss in detail at the June AGM. My aim is to have all the facts and figures out to members prior to the AGM. If anybody has any ideas or comments regarding the proposed shed project please contact myself or any committee member. This month is quite busy with the Ladies Rally and the Vintage Venture. However, Marcia and I will not be able to attend either of these events as my cousin and her travelling companion arrive from the UK in early March. This is their third visit and this time we are taking them to the South Island for a couple of weeks to view some South Island scenery. I will be absent for the March club night but back in April. The club’s Executive meeting is being held on the 28th March and Dave Nordell and I are going to represent our branch. The Re Branding of the club and Online membership will no doubt be bought up for discussion. Our current Logo is now 70 years old so needs to be Re Vitalized for the next 70 years. If you have any issues you would like discussed at the Executive meeting please contact either Dave or myself. Welcome to our new members and we hope to see you soon at a club event. Secretary’s Report Hello there There really doesn’t seem to be much change to the VVC programme since last month, although Gordon and I have been going through a time of great change. We have sold our holiday place at Whangamata, so will be spending a great deal more time in Hamilton! Also, Gordon has sold our Austin 12/4 to a lovely couple in Christchurch, so we no longer are in the ‘Vintage’ fraternity. The MG’s will be well used, and we will spend the next little time getting used to our changes, and making plans for the future. 27-28th Mar Taranaki VCC Maunga Moana Rally NOT April Entries close Mar 12th, entry form available 10-13 Apr National North Island Easter Rally Closes 12th Mar, entry forms now available. 24-26 Apr Highland Fling organised by BOP VCC. Entries have now closed due to maximum number of entries received. 10th May Hawkes Bay VCC Back to Basics Swapmeet It has been most distressing to lose 3 of our members in the last little while. I would like to extend our condolences to the families of Robert Braddock, Andy Lowe, and Roy Riley. All three have contributed to the success of the Waikato Vintage Car Club in various ways, and will be greatly missed. Look after yourselves, Jan

C lu b C a p t a in Club Captain’s Report – March 2020 It’s so pleasing to see our Club eligible vehicles out with members enjoying our Club’s activities. If it is not convenient to get the older vehicle out, it is still possible to join in with your every-day car or bike. All Club runs are about folks enjoying each other’s company as well as giving the ‘oldies’ a run. March activities include the Ladies Rally and the Vintage Venture – time to give that special vintage some TLC before the rally, and for the ladies to get themselves organised for ‘their rally’. The ever popular Wednesday Wander has a longer run this month to the Toyota factory in Thames. Most branches have an event that is more for all members, rather than just those in their branch. On the 14/15th March, the South Waikato is hosting a Mad Irish Woman’s Rally – a camp-out weekend for Vintage only vehicles with lots of off-road motoring. Trevor Appleby is hosting the event (Ph: 021-02711049). Trevor is well known to our motorcyclists and has joined the Wednesday Wanderers on a number of runs since moving from the South Island. Our Motorcycle section is going from strength to strength. For their last Social run, the classic riders were invited and 3 or 4 of them mentioned to me how good that was. We all need to invite folks to join us for all of our activities, not just our motorcycle ones, which is a good chance to promote our Club to others. The Blue Smoke and Pedals was enjoyed by those who attended and the coming weekend away has almost ‘used up’ all the available accommodation! It would be so good if we could get a section going for our Veterans. Terry

Motorcycle Motor Cycle Section I hope you have all got your bikes ready for the Mooloo April 3/4, as it would be a pity to miss this great event. Stan and I have been over the route again and have managed to keep it to as many back roads as possible, with some great views of the country side. Hope there is some rain soon as it was looking very brown. Entry forms are in this Venture, so please get them off as soon as possible, as it makes life a lot easier than when they arrive at the last minute. I have just read a very interesting article in the Listener about Sam McCafferty a 27 year New Zealander who is an Ex Massey University Graduate and is one of only six vehicle designers at the luxury motorcycle of Ducati, I must say some feat. He says riding one of the bikes is a “raw” experience, as other bikes feel a bit “mechanical”!!! where as Ducati feels very alive, not sure what he would say about my BSA. It was great to hear that one of our club members Hugh Anderson who was a four time World M/C Champion being inducted into the Moto GP Legends Hall Of Fame, he joins the already included well known riders, Giacomo Agostini, Mick Doohan, Wayne Gardner and Mike Hailwood to name just a few. Blue Smoke and Pedals – 12 January 2020 Another successful Blue Smoke and Pedals day has been hosted by our Club. Those underpowered, pedal-assisted motorbikes just will not die, but with modern 2 stroke oil not much ‘blue smoke’ was noticed. We even managed to attract one machine with pedals and no exhaust! With the day being sponsored by Honda Hamilton, the sun shining, and Milan Fistonic taking the photos of members out to achieve points towards their chocolate fish prize, the day was a great success. The event could always manage more bikes so dig out that underpowered bike and join in. Also, if anyone knows of a non-member with an eligible bike, invite them along. Our motorcycle section is so successful with members enjoying the other activities as well as Blue Smoke and Pedals. And, of course, the day’s success depended on those helpers and markers who worked so well to ensure another enjoyable day – many thanks to those involved. Recently I came across an article in the 1979 March Venture . It was an article on Petrol Prices world wide, something that we have been banging on about since I was a teenager. Very interesting!! (sorry the scan was a little light).
