Printing Tips Although you can print this magazine to A4 (either actual size or scaled to A4), this magazine has been set up in A5 format. This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it. If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2 If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Which allows you to print, then staple and fold up into an A5 magazine.

Chairman’s Report
Marty Sutherland Chairman’s Report – November 2020 Hello everybody, time is flying. It’s about eight weeks to Christmas – scary aye. Firstly I would like to thank Owen for organising the trip to Waimangu Volcanic Valley on the 18th of October. It was a great trip and place to visit. It was somewhere Lynne and I had never visited, and from what we heard, there were others that had never been there either. The day was enjoyable, and for those of you who didn’t go, it would be worthwhile for you to make a trip there. It is only about 40 minutes from Taupo. Thanks Owen! Now with this Covid thing swirling around, things are up in the air. Every Christmas, I play Santa (yes, I know, hard to believe, isn’t it?!) at Huka Lodge for an afternoon of entertainment for the elderly, which is put on by the Taupo District Council. This year it is still up in the air as to whether it’s going ahead. The same applies, as far as I know, for the Christmas Parade on the 5th of December, which the VCC gets involved in.

However, the Christmas dinner for the VCC will be going ahead on the 5th of December. Constable’s Catering, same as last year, have been booked. You will be contacted by a committee member in the next 2 – 3 weeks as caterers will need some idea of numbers so food etc can be organised. Remember, the next trip is on Sunday the 16th of November to Awakeri rail trails. More on this from Owen. Unfortunately, Lynne and I will not be able to attend this trip. Owen Duncan Club Captain’s Report – November 2020 Welcome to this month’s Club Captain’s report. The Coffee Club breakfast is, as always, the best start to the month, with over 20 members enjoying breakfast together at the beginning of October. The Palmerston North Sopranos Car Club joined in on the vehicle show at Roberts Street Reserve, making interesting viewing for the public. Sopranos had members from as far away as Auckland, enjoying the weekend in Taupo during the school holidays.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank club members who attended the club run to Waimangu Volcanic Valley, making it a fantastic day. Lunch was a great time to chat and catch up with members. The weather was kind to us, so Ray Ricks came along to the valley for a drive to give his MG Tribute an outing. The next club run is on the 15th of November, to Awakeri Rail Adventures, a trip along a stretch of restored historic railway, the old Taneatua Branch line. The drive to Awakeri will take about two hours and include crossing the Matahina Dam, one of the few earth dams within New Zealand’s hydropower generating system. A committee member will ring you so we can get bookings sorted. This will be a day run, leaving the clubrooms at 9.00am. The Fish and Chip club night is back on Wednesday the 11th of November, followed by a quiz. The twist being the ladies versus the men, in teams of no more than six. We will ring you for your fish and chip order. Each pack will consist of two fish with chips for $10.00. This evening starts at 6.00 pm. BYO drinks. Tea and coffee are provided. Just a reminder about the Club Captains Run to Wanganui on the weekend of 30th of January to the 1st of February. A great weekend has been planned, but you should think about booking your accommodation ASAP. See details in a separate report in this magazine

The Club Captain’s Run to Wanganui 30th, 31st January & 1st February Auckland Anniversary Weekend
Wanganui has some beautiful examples of Edwardian and Victorian Architecture and a real sense of history. This is complimented by the city’s strength in the arts with galleries and quirky cafes occupying many of the heritage buildings and modern street art taking advantage of the big walls. With the activities booked it is time to commit and arrange your accommodation. I have listed below 5 options that I feel might suit you all, keeping in mind their close proximity to the centre of town. After lunch we head north of Wanganui to Westmere , private museum of Richmond Harding to view his Tiger Moth, Spitfire and a mass of memorabilia from his days as General Manager of Wanganui Aero Works and his many years crop spraying and top dressing around Wanganui and the Central Plateau in a Fletcher. This may be about another 2 hour visit. Ok, so now back to into town with enough time to have a couple of drinks before dinner. In morning we can meet as a group at Mud Ducks Café on the riverside, the ladies can have a look around the galleries and boutique shops. Glass Works NZ is in this area where you can blow your own paper weight or watch the professional glass blowers at work. An amazing shop with fantastic viewing. All within easy walking distance. It has been arranged for the men to visit Wanganui VCC who are opening their clubrooms and parts shed for viewing. It will then be time to wind up, either have lunch together or head back home. Mauro Forghieri had designed the new 330 P4, while some P3s had been updated to become the 330 P3/P4. The car boasted sophisticated aerodynamics, developed in the wind tunnels of Pininfarina and Stuttgart Polytechnic, in Germany, the city of Mercedes and Porsche. The P4 offered less air resistance, more downforce and a nose that grazed the asphalt. Its V12 engine had twin camshafts and three valves per cylinder, a displacement of four litres, and 450 horsepower. It also had a new gearbox, made in-house by Ferrari, and a new suspension. All went well in the race. The Ferraris dominated, and then Lini had a stroke of genius: he ordered the drivers of the Ferraris in the first three places to cross the finish line (on the raised stretch) in a 1–2–3 side-by-side parade. The photo, one of the most famous in motoring history, was released by US press agencies and travelled around the globe. The final result saw the 330 P3/P4 (P3 chassis and P4 engine) crewed by Lorenzo Bandini and Chris Amon, ahead of the 330 P4 driven by Mike Parkes and Scarfiotti and the 412 P of Luigi Chinetti’s NART driven by Pedro Rodriguez and Jean Guichet. Bandini and Amon then repeated the feat at Monza in the 1000 km and at the end of the season Ferrari claimed the Constructor Championship. NOVEMBER 2020
