This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it. If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2 If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Marty Sutherland Chairman’s Report – September 2020 Hello everybody. I guess things are back to normal as best we can hope for at this time. COVID has certainly changed our lives and no idea when everyone will be completely back to “normal.” I was a bit concerned on Sunday, 23rd August, for the Daffodil run, but it was a great turnout, and the weather wasn’t too bad. The report on this run will be reported on by our Club Captain (Owen), but I would like to thank everyone for turning out and supporting this worthwhile cause.
If anyone knows of a member’s illness or injury would you please contact myself or Trish Jeffries. We would like to know of anything that’s happening so we can SEPTEMBER 2020

keep in touch with these members to make sure they don’t feel neglected or if they need any help. A lot has gone undetected in the past, and we would like to be advised, please. New badges are being done with some already coming to the fore – they look great!! Remember the COFFEE CLUB BREAKFAST on 6th September at 8.30 am. Club night is on the 9th of September, and as it is a special occasion, it would be great to see a good turnout. Breakfast run on the 20th September. This run is organised by Danny and Fiona. Club Captain’s Report
Owen Duncan Club Captain’s Report – September 2020 Thirty-six days into my position as club captain and the popular fish and chip/ quiz night became a casualty to Covid-19 with the move to Level 2. The health and wellbeing of all club members, is, and always will be, our top priority. The Coffee Club Breakfast again saw 22 members enjoy the get together to catch up and chat. Many cars from us and The Rod and Custom Club are always great to look over. Daffodil Day Café Run – I can’t say how pleased we are with the turnout on Sunday, fantastic, and thanks to everybody who supported the local Cancer Society. The carpark was full, and many cars made the full trip to Turangi, and the Cadillac Café was overflowing. Rach, the owner, was thrilled with the turnout. Her and her partner gave an awesome rock n roll dance display. To others, thanks for supporting the other cafes who sponsored SEPTEMBER 2020

the advertising. Maurice Gianotti from the Cancer Society confirmed we raised $891.00 on the day, with the bonus being ANZ Taupo matched us dollar for dollar, giving a grand total of $1782.00. We also ran a raffle. Kevin Congdon won the $50 and donated it all to the Cancer Society.
I would like to thank Marty, Maureen, Trish, and Brent for their assistance with the advertising and the Taupo Rod and Custom Car Club in contributing to the success. The next event on the calendar is The Coffee Club Breakfast starting from 8.30 am onwards on Sunday, 6 September. Don’t forget to phone or text me on 0274 482 484 so I can book sufficient seats. Wednesday 9 September is our next club night starting at 7.00 pm. We plan to hold a special General Meeting to deal with changes to the constitution, followed by a life membership presentation to Eric Foley, and by popular demand Senior

Constable Barry Shepherd, Taupo Police, returns and will present on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and his search and rescue portfolio. On Sunday, 20 September, we have arranged a one-hour drive set by the Jones’s starting from the library at 9.00 am and finishing at the clubrooms about 10, at which time your committee will have breakfast prepared for you. $5.00 per head. On 18 October, I am planning at club run to Waimangu Volcanic Valley (about a one hour drive). There are plenty of options for the day; you can simply participate in the drive, enjoy their café or take a scenic look at the environs, which entails a 4K walk for those fitness freaks, and/or a bus trip down to the lake and a boat trip out on Lake Rotomahana. Entry to the thermal valley is $20.00 per person, or $40.00 for entry plus the boat trip. For Gold Card holders, the cost for entry and boat trip is $35.00. The boat normally holds 30 people, and it would be great to all be in the same boat. Timings will be confirmed closer to October, but your registration of interest would be appreciated to assist in planning/booking. COVID 19 Level 2 restrictions and the necessity for social distancing may affect numbers on the boat to 12 or 15. If that’s the case, the boat runs at 1-hour intervals so you won’t miss out. Check out the brochure on the following 4 pages. Most of the events have now been finalised for the remainder of the year as per the calendar. Please keep an eye on it and feel free to give me a call for clarification. Pre-booking is necessary for most events, but someone from the committee will call you in advance. Owen Duncan Club Captain

Hi VCC Branches, I'm very sorry to advise that this year's Targa VCC Time Trial is now unable to be held in October due to Covid-19 and the change of the NZ election date. Unfortunately Targa can'tprun an event which involves road closures on election day. Targa had also planned on using schools as service stops, which now may also be used as electoral polling stations.

The Eldorado was at or near the top of the Cadillac line. The 1959 Cadillac is remembered for its huge sharp tailfins with dual bullet tail lights, new jewel-like grille patterns and matching deck lid beauty panels. All Eldorados were characterized by a three-deck, jeweled, rear grille insert that replicated the texture of the front grille; this front/rear grille treatment was shared with the Fleetwood Sixty Special and would continue through 1966 with textures being revised each year. The Seville and Biarritz models had the Eldorado name spelled out behind the front wheel opening and featured broad, full-length body sill highlights that curved over the rear fender profile and back along the upper beltline region. Engine output was an even 345 hp (257 kW) from the 390 cu in (6.4 L) engine. SEPTEMBER 2020

‘Highland Fling Rally’ 24th – 26th April 2021 Information As I write this short update our largest city is currently in Level 3 lockdown, while the rest of us are abiding to Level 2 rules. A bit of a cliché I know, but we really are living in uneasy times and all trying our best to stay upbeat and project calm, without having any idea from one day to the next what the outlook is going to bring us. In the meantime, with trepidation we must all remain positive, and carry on as best we can with the planning of our future motoring events. Therefore, the organisers of the Highland Fling Rally have great pleasure in confirming to you the Highland Fling Rally is scheduled and booked in the VCC ‘Calendar of Events’ to take place Anzac Weekend 2021! My joint ‘Organiser Extraordinaire’ Alastair Jones sends this very positive message to you all. …”It has been most heartening to receive such a large number of emails and phonecalls of encouragement urging us not to give up on running “Highland Fling,” and many of our erstwhile entrants even asked to leave their monies with us until next year. No doubt this was to ensure they had a place in the “Fling” There was even quite a number who asked whether it was possible to reschedule it to later 2020, since the thought of having to wait until 2021 was a bit much to bear. On that note we didn’t consider it possible to fit it into an already jam-packed motoring event calendar, and as well late Autumn delivers superb colours, which are bound to captivate the considerable number of the ‘tender gender’ who have indicated they will be attending. All this preamble is to assure you it will be Anzac Weekend in 2021 even if we only have NZ entrants. Inevitably this dreaded virus has had an effect in a small

way on our accommodation providers in Taihape as one of the smaller providers has been bought by the Government, for emergency housing, and Taihape Motels has been sold by Con (the Greek) who was such a good supporter of car club users, but alas to no avail the new owner is keen for a booked out weekend! There was an initial concern that lack of business at our Saturday lunch-stop bought about by canned tourism might cause them to shut-up shop, however, they seem to be made of back-country “hardiness” and are hanging right on in there. On that, not all who would have been involved this year have been told we will be back at the same time next year and keener than ever because of having to wait. With the long wait through “lockdown” I am sure your time will have been well spent in going over your vehicles which will eliminate all involuntary stops” ... So, there you have it folks, watch this space, because we will be endeavouring to do our very best to make sure this event happen is going to happen. By the end of September, you will receive the Entry Form and another Newsletter. And for those members who were as keen as mustard last time to be sporting the new exclusive Highland Fling apparel, (caps and polo shirts,) I will include with the Entry Form a separate order form with the ordering details etc. In the meantime, please look after yourself and your loved ones, and most importantly, stay healthy.
