This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it. If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2 If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Chairman’s Report
Neil Chave Chairman’s Report – February 2020 2020 has arrived with a rush and we can look back over the last weeks of 2019 as a busy time for the club. We were part of the Christmas Parade again with a good range of cars led by John Harvey’s magnificent Model ‘T’.
Also in December this time we held the Christmas party at the clubrooms with catering and it seems most were happy with this arrangement so we expect more of our functions to be held in-house. We also attracted a good turnout for the Christmas morning tea with a number of ‘not often seen’ members enjoying a bit of Christmas cheer. FEBRUARY 2020

A number of members drove up to Rotorua for their annual Lake Front Car Show run by Rotorua VCC. A very good display with a number of different cars some we hadn’t seen before. First up on the list of events in 2020, we have our annual ‘Open Day’. We would like to see as many of our members and friends come along for the day to display their car (or cars) at the clubrooms at Hickling Park. We use this as an opportunity to promote the club to the locals and gain some publicity. We expect the Quiltmakers and embroiderers will also be on show and the adjacent Men’s Shed will also be open. We run from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm and there will be a sausage sizzle for anyone that’s hungry. In February, on Wednesday the 12th, we shall be holding our annual Summer BBQ where the club provides the meat and members bring salads and desserts. We will be phoning to see who is coming and what you might bring. On a final note, please remember our March Taupo Rally is now accepting entries and we are hoping for a good response from our local VCC members. Some entries have arrived but we need your support for this fun weekend. Mark it on the Calendar 13-14-15 March. The rally itself is on the Saturday and the prize giving dinner will be held at the clubrooms. Neil

Club Captain’s Report
Tony Mannington Club Captain’s Report – February 2020 Pam and I had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year catching up with family and friends, as always good times come to an end and we must start looking forward to getting the VVC Club program back on track. Again the Club has put together another program to get you motivated over the next few months. Those that have travelled over to the Rotorua VCC Annual Car Show on Sunday the 19th, let’s hope all went well and you had an enjoyable day. First up is our Taupo Vintage Car Club Open Day on the 1st of February. All Club Members welcome to get their VCC cars out of the garages and dust them off to display at our Open Day. Come along and catch up with fellow Club Members over a BBQ sausage. Wednesday the 12th of February is our annual Club Night BBQ Dinner at the Clubrooms. As always the Club will provide delicious sausages and beef meat patties, we ask that you bring a Summer Salad or Dessert to share. The committee will do a ring around to gauge the support. It’s always great to catch up with fellow Club Members after our Christmas break. Many hands make light work, so we always appreciate help on BBQ or setting up and cleaning up.

On Sunday the 16th of February (see notice)The Great Lake Club has teamed up with the Taupo VCC Club and we have also asked the Taupo Blind Group to join us. We ask that you bring your cars to the Clubrooms at 11.00 am and help with transporting our guests out to Epiphany Gardens on Broadlands Rd. Entertainment by the AA65 Singer and The Great Lake Club will provide everybody with lunch. Bring picnic chairs and if you wish to have a hot drink with your lunch put in a thermos (toilet on site). This will be held regardless of weather, “Plan B� in the Clubrooms. If you are interested in this fun day contact Neil Chave.
February is always a busy month for the Club, Please note these dates into your electronic device and have the bells flashing to remind you of our Club Events. Our biggest Club Event of the year, Taupo VCC annual Rally is approaching fast. Lock in the 13th, 14th and 15th of March. Planning well underway and the Rally Committee is looking forward to a successful Rally, but we need more entries in and helpers required. Lake Taupo Country Roads Rally As most of you will be aware the club is holding its annual rally on the weekend of 13 – 15 March. Planning is well underway, with the route mapped out, stewards and volunteers arranged, catering sorted and some awesome prizes being sourced. This bodes to be another exciting and fun event. On the evening of Friday the 13th, we have a natter and noggin at the clubrooms. This is a chance to meet some of our visiting participants and hand out rally packs in preparation for the following day. Bring your own drinks and food, tea and coffee will be supplied by the club. The rally itself is being held on Saturday 14th beginning with a briefing for drivers and navigators. The drive runs over the morning, with a scenic run in the afternoon ending at the clubrooms. Lunch this year is another fundraiser for a local country education provider so it would be great to see many of us as possible support their cause. Saturday’s prizegiving and meal will be held at the clubrooms in the evening, BYO drinks. Sunday 15th is a morning tea at the clubrooms, the parts shed will be open, tea and coffee will be supplied and is another opportunity to relax and farewell our visitors. All the timings are on the entry form. Entries are slowly trickling it, the majority of those received so far are from out of towners, so it would be great to get some more entries from club members to bolster up our side. The 1955 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Monaco on May 22, 1955. It was race 2 of 7 in the 1955 World Championship of Drivers and was given an honorary name, Grand Prix d’Europe. The 100-lap race was won by Ferrari driver Maurice Trintignant after he started from ninth position. Eugenio Castellotti finished second for the Lancia team and Maserati drivers Jean Behra and Cesare Perdisa came in third. Juan Manuel Fangio had pole position, Stirling Moss had been signed by Mercedes for the new season and Maserati had replaced him with Jean Behra. The Silver Arrows of Fangio and Moss dominated, running 1–2 until half distance, trailed by Ascari and Castellotti. At the halfway mark, Fangio retired with transmission trouble, giving the lead to Moss. Almost a lap ahead, a seemingly sure win for Moss was ended on Lap 80 when his Benz’s engine blew. The new leader, Ascari, miscalculated the chicane coming out of the tunnel, and his Lancia crashed through the barriers into the harbour. Ascari had to swim to safety. Maurice Trintignant, in a Ferrari 625 thought to be uncompetitive, inherited the lead and scored his first Formula One victory. FEBRUARY 2020

THE GREAT LAKE CLUB PICNIC DAY COMBINED WITH THE TAUPO VINTAGE CAR CLUB DAY RUN, Sunday 16th February 2020. Well, things are moving along nicely with the arrangements for the North Island Easter Rally. Our National President, Diane Quarrie, will be in attendance, along with the North Island Club Captain Kaaren Smylie, and both of their respective husbands. Entries have been a little slow at coming in, and as we are now only about three weeks away from the final date for entries and payments, (7 February), we urge you to make up your minds ASAP and make your bookings from our various choices of accommodation. We have a great programme sorted for your enjoyment and participation, so please come along and enjoy the weekend with us. We have noticed from some of the entries coming in that the detail on the entry form has not been completely filled out. It makes it hard for us to have to follow up and ask what you are wanting to enter for, so please pay attention to filling in the required fields to make it easier for us to know what your intentions are. Thank you. The Horowhenua area, and Levin in particular, are really looking forward to hosting this rally, and will be making you all most welcome for your stay. The Gymkhana on Sunday afternoon promises to be something really special, with four Model “T” Raceabouts on display and ready for “photo opportunities” for those who are interested. Our branch must be unique in having four of these vehicles belonging to members of our club. Our own clubrooms will be the “home” for the weekend, being manned night and day for anyone wanting any assistance, cup of tea or just a general sit down and a natter. It will be the “hub” for anyone needing anything, with a “help desk” available at all times. We will be in contact with local taxi companies for anyone needing transport to or from their accommodation. Our clubrooms are home to an extensive Library and Spares Department, so many happy hours can be spent just perusing what there is to see! We are all so looking forward to welcoming you to this fantastic weekend, and just enjoying each other’s company. That’s what being a member of the Vintage Car Club is all about!

Accommodation Suggestion During my visits to the local accommodation ensuring they’re aware of our Easter Rally organisation, I was suitably impressed with the Levin Kiwi Holiday Park. Their grounds are super tidy and they run a very professional camp ground. There is plenty of space for caravans and motorhomes. The cabins and tourist flats are top notch. I can recommend them. It is a short distance from here across the railway to our clubrooms.

Those who wish to trailer their car, truck or motorcycle to the rally can leave the trailer at our clubrooms. We will have a member present at the clubrooms for security. I would also point out that there are no camping facilities here. We do not have permission from the AP & I show people to permit camping. Your vehicle can then be driven to your accommodation without the hassle of your trailer. Please ensure your trailer is locked and secured.

Rally Outline Friday, 10 April Rally Headquarters for the weekend will be our own clubrooms, situated at 14 Tiro Tiro Road, Levin. They will be open from 4 pm onwards, for participants to uplift their rally packs. This rally will be proudly centred around our purpose built rooms and adjacent show grounds. A full and detailed rally programme will be supplied in your newsletter and rally pack. At approximately 6 pm all participants are invited to a barbeque meal that will be held at the clubrooms. Please BYO drinks. This will be an ideal opportunity to meet fellow members and participants.
Saturday, 11 April At 9 30 am all vehicles are to assemble in front of the clubrooms for the day’s scenic rally. This will take you through the heart of the Horowhenua on flat, quiet rural roads. A driver and participants’ safety briefing will be held. All drivers and navigators must attend. At 10 am the first car will be away. The competitive participants will be supplied additional information regarding their competition prior. An optional lunch will be supplied at a local rural school. At the conclusion of the day’s activities, dinner is to be held at world-class Southwards Museum and Theatre Auditorium, situated in Paraparaumu. BYO drinks. Transport is available by bus if not wishing to drive to and from the venue and will return you to the clubrooms. Security will be maintained on all vehicles. Visit the museum at your leisure prior to dinner. The Wurlitzer organ will entertain before dinner. Period dress is encouraged.
Sunday, 12 April At 10 am assemble at the clubrooms with a publicised drive through tour of the Levin central area to follow. Return to the clubrooms for lunch. The afternoon will consist of a gymkhana for entrants and an entertaining display from several Ford Model T Race-abouts. The public will be invited to attend. In the evening, dinner and prize giving will be held at the Levin RSA. There is an open bar with no BYO permitted. Period dress is encouraged.
Monday, 13 April Morning tea will be provided at the clubrooms. Enjoy the company of members prior to leaving on your journey home. Our extensive parts shed and library will be open. Both have many items available to purchase. Depart at you leisure. A full detailed programme will be supplied in a newsletter and later in your rally pack.

Trophies Todd Park Restoration Trophy Presented to a vehicle entered in the rally for overall concours condition. This will be voted on by the attending public.
Wairarapa Trophy Presented to the best overall competitor.
Maxwell Trophy Awarded to the branch entering the winning team on the following basis: - One team per branch. - Team to consist of three vehicles, each being of a different class. One must be either Veteran or Vintage or both can be included. - Team members must all enter the competitive section on Saturday. - Teams and members names are to be advised in writing to Rally Headquarters before 8 pm, Friday, 10 April.

One entrant in the vehicle must be a current financial member of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc) or a member of a recognised vintage motoring club. The entrant must be the driver, rider, navigator or passenger of the entered vehicle. All invited guests are deemed non competitive.

The rally is open to vehicles defined in the rules of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc).

All entered vehicles must possess a current VIC and display a current VIC sticker.

Actions that may bring the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc) into disrepute will incur disqualification.

The use of electronic navigational devices or calculators of any type are not permitted in or on vehicles entered in the competitive event.

Late entries and/or entrants changing vehicles after 7 February 2020 will be deemed non competitive.
