Printing Tips Although you can print this magazine to A4 (either actual size or scaled to A4), this magazine has been set up in A5 format. This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it. If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2 If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Which allows you to print, then staple and fold up into an A5 magazine.

Chairman’s Report
Marty Sutherland Chairman’s Report – April 2021 Greetings one and all. I hope this finds you all in good health with no untoward ailments. We had our Country Roads Rally on 13th March and what a great event it was. Thank you, Murray, Heather, and Maureen for handling the purse strings. A big thank you to these aforementioned people and to everybody who made this event another success. A thankyou also from all the people who received prizes from rally placings and raffles. Dave and Glynis Waghorn from Wellington were the overall winners, but they are also members of this branch. Good work guys. Murray had sent a list of place getters to the magazine, which will be elsewhere. Lynne and I had a great holiday from 23rd February and returning home on the 7th March. We had to leave Auckland due to the lockdown on Sunday 28th. We got through the Police roadblock easily with only about a half-hour delay. Whilst in Gisborne, we got shaken awake with the earthquake. Who said you couldn’t make a bed shake on your 50th wedding anniversary! All in all, it was a good break, then back for the rally. On Friday 19th March, we headed over to Havelock North for the Hillman Humber AGM weekend. A great bunch of people and we had a good time. On Saturday morning, all cars were on display and judged by independent judges for an appraisal. At the prize-giving, the President’s Trophy was announced, and guess APRIL 2021

what, I won it with our Super Minx. I nearly fell off my chair when my name was called. Cool eh. So, all in all, winning the P60 class with Brent Davidson in the Taupo rally and the Hillman/Humber club prize in Havelock, I am feeling quite cocky. Now, remember after April, we will be on a run to the AGM in May so give some thought to the committee and other positions that will be available. I called into the Taupo Hospital the other week to see Lester Strawbridge, and he looks forward to seeing any visitors. A little boy asks his Dad, “What does politically correct mean?” Dad says, “Well son, it means giving up your own beliefs and opinions in order to please some whiny little cry babies.” A thought maybe in this age, which appears to me to be getting out of hand. Club Captain’s Report
Owen Duncan Club Captain’s Report – April 2021 It’s always a good way to start the month with The Coffee Club Breakfast, and again it was well attended with many cars from our club along with the Taupo Hot Rod and Custom cars. Don’t forget to ring or text me so I can keep the staff at The Coffee Club informed of numbers. With the annual Taupo Country Roads Rally over, I would like to thank all the marshals and the folk that assisted with morning tea and at all the checkpoints. Without you, it could not have been the success it was, thank you. To Murray Stanley, thank you for the endless hours you and your team put in to ensure we had a well-organised event. Congratulations to all the class winners. To up-and-coming events now, the club night on Wednesday the 14th of April, I have arranged for the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter crew member to give us an insight into the work they do for our area. This will start at 7.30 in the clubrooms followed by discussions and supper.

Due to a clash of dates, the run to the Classic Car Museum & Cafe has been deferred, but never fear, the Treasure Hunt on the Sunday the 18th of April will truly test your resourcefulness. It will be commencing from the clubhouse at 1 pm after a briefing and return by 3 pm, at which stage we will have afternoon tea and announce the winner. Colin and I would like to say a big thank you for all the work you and your committee put it to make last weekend a wonderful success. He are still talking about it to friends. The lovely rolling countryside and quiet roads (sports car land Colin called it) and the friendliness of all your members. The organising of the rally itself, morning teas, lunches and the very nice final evening dinner was all really appreciated. A lot of work to make the weekend so successful and so enjoyable. The Thunderbird entered production for the 1955 model year as a sporty two-seat convertible. Unlike the Chevrolet Corvette, it was not marketed as a sports car. Ford positioned the Thunderbird as an upscale model and it is credited in developing a new market segment, the personal luxury car. For 1958, the Thunderbird was redesigned with a second row of seats. Succeeding generations became larger until the line was downsized in 1977, again in 1980, and once again in 1983. Sales were good until the 1990s when large 2-door coupes became unpopular. Initial production ceased at the end of 1997. In 2002, the production of the Thunderbird started again; a revived 2-seat model was launched which was available through the end of the 2005 model year. From its introduction in 1955 to its final phaseout in 2005, Ford produced over 4.4 million Thunderbirds.
