From the Chairperson Chairman’s Chatter Hello Folks.

What a great way of getting around our beautiful countryside driving a vintage Dodge and enjoying the company of other likeminded members. The Easter South Island Vintage Car Rally was held in Timaru and I along with Kevin and Christine Fabish, Bob and Lois Butchart and with my co-pilot Patrick Steiller all had an enjoyable time. Getting there and back was half the fun with nice long drives on our north and South Island roading network and across on the Bluebridge ferry. It took us four days to get to Timaru via Blenheim, Murchison over the Lewis pass to Culverden then to Christchurch and on to Timaru. On our return journey we were by ourselves as Kevin and Bob were to partake in an after-Rally Tour so we decided to come up through the Molesworth. Wow what an experience that was with great scenery and plenty of ruts, washouts and hills along with dusty metal roads like I had not been on before. All in all, a great drive of 1507 miles. Then two weeks later off to Taihape for the much-anticipated Highland Fling Rally. What a fabulous time we had there, and the organisers deserve huge congratulations as this rally took us into the high country with spectacular views and dusty roads and hill climbs and another 500 odd miles added to the speedo on the Dodge. So lets get out and about in our vehicles. Our AGM is up next and it seems to have come around pretty quickly as Covid caused the AGM to be delayed last year . However, as you have read in my Annual report it is vitally important to give serious thought to the Club Captains position. We need this position to be filled this year. There must be some member out there willing to help us in this important position. So, keep the passion... Drive safely... The Big Rally is getting closer... entries are now open. Editors Report Hi Folks, the last report from me for the current term of office. Is there anyone out there who would like to have a go at this job for the next term? I f so come along to this month’s AGM and make your wishes known. You will see in Coming Events that June is going to be quite busy, with a very interesting speaker here for our June Club night, followed by a Mid-week visit to our Observatory and then our annual run to the Stratford Mountain House on the 27th. Also, on July 18 at 1.00pm here in our Clubrooms, there will be a meeting of the members of the Classic Car Register at which local identity and car enthusiast Harry Duynhoven will speak and Jim Logan answer any questions you may have on issues relating to our hobby.

Chairman’s ANNUAL Report 2021. To the Members of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand Taranaki Branch incorporated. It has been a privilege to be your chairman over this shortened last 12 months. Thank you for all your support and comments over the past year. The monthly Chairman’s Chatter on activities in the Topical Torque newsletters covers a percentage of this annual report as I have reported or commented each month on most of the activities that have been held for you, the members. Membership. It is pleasing to report that our membership has held steady over the past year. However it is extremely important that we must continue to foster prospective members to join our club and also especially concentrate on the younger people in encouraging them to join. The huge amount of different makes and models of vehicles that are becoming of age to join our movement must be considered and there are lots of different motoring clubs that are struggling with funding and falling memberships so we should be mindful of these clubs and encourage and support where we can all those with mutual interest who wish to come and join our movement. Committee. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of the committee for their work over the last year. There has been a lot of camaraderie and we have been able to work as a very good team in keeping together the smooth running of our branch. A, big thank you to Les Bognuda for looking after our clubrooms with the mowing and spraying of our outside areas and to Rose Cox for keeping the inside of the clubrooms in a clean and tidy condition. Also many thanks’ to Rob Thomson our Club Treasurer who has kept us up to date with the changing finance world and for his valuable knowledge and input. This year we have had to rewrite our constitution and thanks to Mike Hodgkinson who was tasked to do this. It was a huge amount of work which took some months to be able to present it to the National Executive Secretary for scrutiny. This was completed and now we are able to present the Constitution for ratification by you the members at our May AGM. All committee members have carried out their respective duties in a very helpful manner. We were not able to fill the position of Club Captain for this year and it is important for all members to give this serious consideration as this club needs dedicated and committed members to help in the important running of our club. I would like to extend my grateful thanks to all the committee members who have carried out their duties in a most professional and helpful manner. The parts committee have again been very active this year and have managed to help our members with parts and members outside our branch with some good sales of parts and motors. Members will note in the balance sheet how successful they have been. You have all made valuable contributions to our branch, Thank You for your dedication and support and your untiring efforts. Obituary. I extend our deepest sympathy to all members who have lost loved ones over the past year. Activities. We have had a varied amount of club runs and Noggin and Natter nights throughout the year. Our club nights have been well attended with an average of around thirty to forty members attending the monthly meetings. We are always trying to give a varied line up of guest speakers and these nights have been enjoyed by the members. I would like to see a little bit more variation to these nights remembering always that they are a way of socializing and getting together to share our mutual interests in the motor vehicles that we choose to own. Most months there has been some activity organised by members for the monthly club runs and

the attendance has been very good. The annual End of Rego Run, Rubber Duckie Motor cycle rally, Potters Paddock, Run to Te Popo Gardens, The 48th Waitara Mini Vin Tour , and the 56th Maunga Moana Rally have all given members a good cross section of activities to choose from. The Mid week Runs have been very popular. Again, it’s many thanks to members who have organized these outings for members. Historical Records of our Branch. It is vitally important to keep our historical records up to date, correctly documented and preserved. We must be prepared to spend some funds to preserve these important documents correctly and in a safe environment. It is pleasing to note that member Rose Cox has taken on the task of looking after our historical records and has done a superb job of collating, dating and checking. Two members Veronica and Steve Oliver will receive their twentyfive year badges at this year’s AGM, Congratulations to both of these members in obtaining this milestone in their club membership. Club Rooms. Again, we have had another year of using our clubrooms and they continue to be admired by all visitors that visit them. It is important to keep the maintenance up, so we are in the midst of applying for funds from the TSB to have the clubrooms fully painted and woodwork repaired. Let’s get some other activity organised for our clubrooms. The clubroom’s have two Heat pumps that we will be able to take advantage of in the colder weather and also in the hotter weather for the comfort of our members. We are truly very lucky to have our clubrooms and it’s thanks to the District Council that we are able to enjoy the use of this property at the lease that was negotiated some years ago. We are certainly the envy of other motoring clubs with owning our own facility here at Waiongana. 2022. Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring Rally. I am looking forward to this huge event and I am happy to report to all members that I have been appointed The National Rally Day Coordinator and the Inglewood Street Party Coordinator. I can assure you all that I am positive that the rally committee can run a successful festival. Motels and Hotels have already been booked. The Entry Form is now online and open with entries coming in. The dates are 16th to the 21st of January 2022 as it will coincide with the New Plymouth Festival of lights and along with our fantastic back country roading network we will truly deliver a festival that will have an Inglewood Street Party that all entrants will enjoy and be something different that has not been done in previous Rallies. I thank everyone who have indicated their interest in helping me to coordinate the competitive 8 timed rallies on the National rally Day. Future of our Club. As I have stated in previous years, we must look to the future with confidence as our club will go from strength to strength if we continue to encourage the motoring fascination that we have for the ever-changing motor vehicle that we want to own, restore and drive. Finally, I wish the branch the very best for the future and thank the members who have indicated interest in filling committee positions for this next year. A Message from our VCCNZ President The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (“VCC”) has a proud history of organising extremely successful International Rallies, each one uniquely showcasing a particular area of New Zealand and I know that the Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring 2022 will continue with the high standards of previous years. The Taranaki area delivers a wide range of visitor experiences, there’ll be plenty for you to see and do before, during and after the Festival. There is plenty of accommodation within walking distance of the venue which is also right next door to Pukekura Park and the renowned Festival of Lights. The VCC is New Zealand’s foremost historic motoring authority and the Festival will be a true motoring experience catering for a wide range of vehicles and their capabilities. Once again Vero are generously supporting the event. To our overseas friends, whether you have attended in the past or are considering your first time, we would love to see you in 2022 and I can promise you a warm Kiwi welcome and a unique experience. I have much pleasure in extending an invitation to all VCC members and overseas friends to enter and take part in our Club’s most iconic event.
