Committee Chatter Hello Folks This Column is now the Committee Chatter, and we will be bringing you the news and reports from the Committee as were unable to fill the Chairman’s or the Club Captain or the Secretary position at our recent AGM meeting. We only just had enough members for a quorum to hold the AGM and as it was the meeting could not start until twenty minutes later. However, the meeting did take place and because there was no nomination for Secretary it was decided to join the Secretary/Treasurers job into one and Rob Thomson was elected. This has now put considerably more work onto Rob and it is important to keep up to date information from the National executive committee and other local events and enquiry’s. Please consider the future of your club and still give serious consideration to filling these three important roles. Each month this chatter will be written by a committee member and also each month the Noggin and Natters will be chaired by a different committee member. We have some great events coming up and the very popular End of Rego Run to the Stratford Mountain House for lunch so please keep an eye out for the events that have been organised for you. Also, the Posh Picnic with your Car or bike at The Bertrand Road Suspension Bridge celebration of 125 years of existence will be held on Sunday 17th July at 11.00am. See events for all details and procedure. We welcome new Committee Members Grant Bishop and Kevin Fabish and Ian Wilford and thank them for joining the returning members to run our club. FIRST DAY AT THE SENIORS COMPLEX On her first day at the seniors’ complex, the new manager addressed all the seniors, pointing out some of the rules: “The female sleeping quarters will be out of bounds for all males, and the male dormitory out of bounds for all females. Anyone caught breaking these rules will be fined $20 the first time.” She continued, “Anyone caught breaking this rule the second time will be fined $60. Being caught a third time will cost you a fine of $180. Are there any questions?” At this point, an older gentleman stood up and inquired, “How much for a season pass?”

Our bridge is 125years old and we are going to have a celebration to which you are invited. Sunday 17th July at the bridge at 11:00am Assemble on the east – Tikorangi, side of the bridge. (If it is wet, we will meet at the Huirangi Hall, Bayley Street, Huirangi) The New Plymouth City Brass Band will perform while a parade of Vintage cars crosses the bridge. There will be some brief speeches before we spread out to enjoy a picnic in the riverbank paddock. There will be a display of material related to the bridge including a lot of photos and a bridge expert you can question if you would like to. If you have material of interest, please bring it along. A well-Illustrated booklet has been published detailing a lot of information about the bridge and will be available to purchase at $9.99. There will be food available to purchase and tea and coffee will be available. Bring a picnic rug or chairs to sit on. You are welcome to BYO food and drink if you wish. If you really want to enter into the spirit of the day, come dressed as our forebears would have in 1897. After you have eaten feel free to inspect the bridge and enjoy the surrounds and your fellow guests. There will be some short walks you can do; • visit the current swimming hole, • there is a bush walk that will give you a view of the bridge and the river from downstream. • visit the grounds of the Wilson house at No.83 to view the old bridge timber that is a feature of the house. If you plan to walk, bring appropriate footwear – it could be quite muddy in places and please remember the river is easily accessible so parents must be responsible for their children at all times. Please bring cash for any purchases you intend to make.

Editors Report A small but lucky group of five vehicles assembled in Eltham before driving out to Lakes Rotorangi and Rotokare on Sunday the 29th May for a picnic lunch. I say lucky because the weather could not have been nicer for a mid-winter day with sun filtering through the trees, no wind, but that all changed to custard the following day. On the 26th May about 12 members got together to visit the Fun-Ho Museum in Inglewood, followed by a drive to view the car and model collection of Rod and Vicky McCallum’s on Upland Rd, a fine time had by all accounts. Events coming up; although we still do not have a Club Captain, there are a few events to remind you of in the next couple of months, both locally and further afield. Our End of Rego Run on June 26, Rotorua swap meet on July 10, the Bertrand Bridge 125 year Anniversary on July 17 and in August on the 21st we are having our Daffodil Day car show in Hawera, as a fund raiser for the Cancer Society. Hope to see you at one or other of these events. You may not know that the Government has now passed into law the new “Clean Car Standard” and “Clean Car Discount”. The LVVTA has been consulting with the Ministry of Transport on this and is now able to establish exactly which vehicle groups have been excluded from the legislation.
