Committee Chatter Wow, what a day, Sunday 17 celebrating 125 since the construction of our Bertrand Rd suspension bridge. I didn’t count the number of cars present but there must have been twenty or so and most of the drivers and passengers got into the spirit of the times and dressed appropriately for the age of their vehicle. Thanks to the weather gods who were smiling on the celebrations, and to Colin and his team of helpers who helped set up the day. Music for the occasion was provided by the New Plymouth Brass and Pipe bands. Food was there aplenty with proceeds from sale going to the Huirangi School committee, well done them. I am pretty sure that I won’t be around for the 150-year celebrations, but you can be sure that this bridge will still be serving the local community in 2047!! At our June meeting, a motion was passed directing that “Upon joining the Taranaki Branch, a new member is to be given a VCC name badge with their name engraved on it, without charge to the new member”. Any new member should approach Kevin Fabish, on committee, to action this change to ensure the correct details are supplied. From our July meeting: we now have a reprint of these TARANAKI, window stickers, these are available from Kevin for the princely sum of $3.00, every car should have one. We have received a request from our local Cancer Society Branch, for two or three cars and drivers to assist with delivering Daffodils around New Plymouth, and Hawera, for their National appeal day. Cars will be required on Thursday, 25th from 9.30. Further detail maybe supplied by phoning John on 7515554. A good crowd of about fifty members enjoyed a run to the Stratford Mountain House for lunch last month. On a rare fine day, the mountain showed out in all its winter clothes, the food was lovely and conversation flowed. Many thanks to John for arranging our booking and a big thank you to those members who joined us for a most enjoyable afternoon. Coming up in September we have our annual motorcycle event, the Rubber Duckie Rally. We are running a raffle in support of this, if you could buy a ticket over the next couple of club nights, that will help balance the budget for this popular event. Still looking for Chairman and Club Captain on committee, surely there is someone willing to give these important jobs a go to help us in the running of your club.
