Chairman's Chatter Hello Folks I hope everyone has been out in their vehicles in this beautiful spell of brilliant weather that we had when the big Vero rally was on. I go out as much as I can just for a joy ride in the Dodge and enjoyed the run that Pat Stieller and I went on to the Coffee and Meet at the old Winery on Cross road in Lepperton. I was amazed to see over 70, all sorts of vehicles and their owners enjoying each other’s company on a Sunday from 10.00am. And the Coffee was good too. March is our annual Maunga Moana Rally month and the organisers this year are Veronica and Steve Oliver please get your entries in as soon as you can as the rally is being held on the 25th/26th March. 50-year badge presentations will be made at the final dinner on Saturday night by the North Island Club Captain Kaaren Smylie and if you would like to attend the Dinner only, please fill in the entry form dinner ticket area and send it to the Secretary as we can only have 100 persons at this dinner. What a wonderful Noggin and Natter we had in February with a excellent turnout of members, with Marie Pearce and Jayne Molloy as guest speakers. Marie gave a very enthusiastic address on how she was able to run the only public event, The Inglewood Street Party at the Vero Rally. Marie also showed us the special trophy that was presented to Inglewood First by the Vero Rally committee for the huge amount of work to organise this special event. The trophy was passed around the members and all agreed it was a fitting tribute for a job well done. There are still some Bunting and handheld flags at the clubrooms, for any member to keep, as a souvenir of this rally. The painting of the Club rooms is nearing completion and they are really looking great and it truly has brought the old building back to life. This has been a major project which has used some of our invested funds and I would like to acknowledge those members again who helped to prepare some outside woodwork which was of concern that had to be repaired before the painting was started. The building and roof were water blasted and prepared by the painting contractor using scaffolding and a cherry picker to reach the high points. A very successful Waitara Mini -Vin Tour was again held in February with 27 entries. Congratulations to this year’s winner Bill and Mike Goble. The results show all top placings were very close and it was great to see everyone enjoying the social gathering for afternoon tea. All results and a thank you to entrants will be found elsewhere in this newsletter. Your Branch Delegate Rob Thomson will be attending by Zoom the National Executive meeting to be held on March 12th. There is a large agenda with lots of topics and reports to be discussed so we look forward to Robs report in due course. The Zoom meeting is to take place because of the situation with Covid. The 49th Waitara Mini Vin Tour 2022 A passing shower burst of rain at 6.00am on Sunday morning was a little concerning for a wet day but by 8.00am all was clear and the blue sky was a welcome sight for another Waitara Mini Vin Tour. This year marks the 49th time this has been run and its many thanks to you the entrants that has made this rally, by participating, that it has become a great social event on our yearly calendar of events. I would like to sincerely thank everyone for entering this year and for all bringing an amazing array of food for afternoon tea to share. Many Thanks to Rob Thomson and my family members and Ashley and Larraine Smith for the help with Marshalling, Timing, and serving afternoon tea. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves. This year we had 27 entries including a motorcycle ridden by Andrew Tidswell. Congratulations to Bill and Mike Goble who won the event this year in a 1972 Rover P6. The results were very close for six entrants and results are included in this newsletter. Thanks again to all entrants and lets all look forward to next year, to the big celebration of 50 years of The Waitara Mini Vin Tour. Colin Johnston. Organiser.

February Midweek Run Well, the lovely spell of golden weather continues, and so it was on one of those sunny days that we fuelled up the Mod and set off for Normanby. Reaching the sports domain at 1 pm we spotted one other vehicle parked there, a Healy Sprite. It didn’t take long to make ourselves known and discovered that the occupants were Greg and Denise Carter, two intending members, local’s, who were joining us for the afternoon. Before long four other members showed up and with Bryan leading the way we were off on our mystery tour. Our first stop was reached by a roundabout scenic route that took us north to Stent Rd then onto Ohawe Beach. It was blowing half a gale there, but we stopped long enough on the beachfront to see that on a fine, calm day, it would be a great destination for a picnic, maybe not a swim. After a 5-minute tour of the village, we left for Hawera and our next destination, the Frontera complex at Whareroa. A drive by showed how much this has grown in recent years and must be a big contributor to the local and greater Taranaki economy. Continuing on SH3, we travelled out of town for about 10 minutes and tuner off onto Ohangai Rd, which leads back into Hawera. Our afternoon tea stop was on this road at the site of the old district school, which has now been bought and developed into a very attractive wedding and hospitality venue. Although they were closed, Helen had opened for our visit and she turned on a most enjoyable fare of home cooking, teas and coffee’s. We were also invited to take a look at the outdoor setting where the wedding’s take place and she told us of the journey that she and her husband had been on in developing the property to the present and their hopes for the future. I am sure that once the present set of travel restrictions are over, that “Ohangai” as it is known, will join some of the other well-known venues to visit here in Taranaki as another “must do’s” for people to tick off their bucket list. Well done Bryan for another interesting visit to a corner of South Taranaki. Dads A

From a Smart old Lady I know I shouldn’t have done this, but at 83 years old I was at MacDonald’s drive-through this morning and a young lady in the car behind leaned on her horn and started mouthing something because I was taking too long to place my order. So, when I got to the first window, I paid for her order along with my own. The cashier must have told her what I had done, because as we moved up, the young lady leaned out her window, waved and mouthed, “Thank you”, obviously embarrassed that I had repaid her rudeness with a kindness. When I got to the second window, I showed them both receipts and took her food too. Now she had to go to the back of the queue and start over. Moral of this story-don’t blow your horn at old people, because like me, they have been around for a long, long time!
Editors Report Sad news today that long-time member Dave Ransom passed away March 9. Dave was always ready to chat about everything in general, but his main passion was vehicles of the two-wheel variety, he will be sadly missed. As reported in Colin’s column, our clubrooms are looking a million (well almost) dollars now after the sterling efforts of our carpenter Ken Maul and painters Kevin and Ellen Frank. Come along on Thursday and check it out before Trevor’s Quiz night. Another successful Waitara Mini Vin concluded and what a good number turned out for the 49th (that’s right 49!) running of this ever-popular summer event. Missed out on a placing this year but all the more reason to try again next year. The big one for the Branch, our Maunga Moana Rally is coming up in a couple of weeks, still time to get your entry in and help make this year’s event a success.
