Polish up your vehicle and bring along your lunch to join us for a great day out
A busier month with Elections being prominent in the news but great to see the Otago Daily Times featuring vehicles and information about the National Veteran Rally held in Gore. No sunshine for the open topped ones but I’m sure the hardy individuals will be well used to these conditions of travel. Following the September Meeting we viewed photographs of vehicles when Gary and Martin attended the National V.C.C. A.G.M. held in Wanganui. Dunvegan Rally Report. Gusty wind made for a challenging ride after a convivial lunch at our Clubrooms. Martin Dodge, Rodger Smaill, Ian McDonald, Neville King and Stuart McElrea appreciated the run through Tapanui with Moa Flat showing remnants of the recent snow. Rather a damp return to Balclutha following a lovely night at the Riders Rest in Roxburgh. Next year will be a Dunedin based rally with a run down to Dunvegan sheep station, the original destination for the first four rallies and the 40th one, nine years ago.

Wednesday Run Report 7th October– a shame the day was poor weatherwise so no view to see travelling over the hill tops. Afternoon tea was at the Greenfield Tavern with thanks to Jay and Shelia Paterson for organising the run. Opening Run - held on Saturday 10th October. A mix of vintage and modern vehicles gathered at Taylor Park in Milton on a fine day weatherwise. Gordon Duthie spoke of the destination for the lunch stop being Middlemarch, travelling through Outram and meeting at the Cafe opposite the Railway line. Tasty food was available or picnic outdoors. Next stop was the Macraes Mine viewing site where we gathered to look at the enormous workings, there has been a change of road layout recently and entrance to the viewing site. Our son regularly delivers fuel there and tells us that the spot we were on is to be mined and the buildings etc. are to be shifted. They use a huge amount of fuel and trucks are delivery constantly. Tankers find it slow going on the roads from Palmerston. Next stop was the Café in Palmerston for a welcome cuppa. Thankyous made to Gordon & Beryl then off on the homeward trip. An excellent outing with great company and sightseeing.

WEDNESDAY RUN 04 NOVEMBER 2020 - Meet at Club Rooms 1.30 p.m. We are visiting a Private Collection and Gardens South of Balclutha. Unwelcome passenger – a strange experience for a gentleman travelling in a motor car. Wandering on the roadside in defiance of the county by-laws, a cow, startled by the glaring headlights, gave a bewildered leap and landed on the rear seat of the car. Fortunately, the back portion of the car was unoccupied at the time, and the intruder was quickly ejected, leaving behind her plain traces of her unexpected ascent upon the moving car. 18/10/1920
