March 2021 Back to cooler days again now that autumn has arrived, the colours in the trees are quite stunning this part of the year, always plenty to do in the garden too. Members have been out and about lately taking part in events. Several took part in the Gore Rally and our own Motorcycle Rally was well supported.

Morris Minor parts have been donated to the Parts Store from Ruth Andrews. Resignation received from member Kerrin Tweed through ill health. Finally a decision not to hold a Weekender this year. With the age of members increasing it is difficult to be staying away and day outings are more practical now. Any ideas for Meeting night speakers/entertainment. Don Jenks has offered something for this month’s meeting. Member profiles were suggested.
Gore Rally Report from Paul McNabb 6 South Otago vehicles travelled to Gore to take part in their annual Rally. McCall’s Mk4 Zodiac (hard luck award), McDonalds Torana, McNabb Model A, Patersons Wolseley (1st P60 Field tests), Renton’s Triumph, Falconer Rover. Overcast conditions were present at the start of the run, but this soon cleared, and the rest of the day was very warm. The routes covered big loops around the Gore countryside, with the longest leg heading to Waikoikoi and back to finish at the Pukerau rugby club grounds for field events and lunch. Returned to the Gore RSA for an enjoyable meal and awarding of certificates etc. Another enjoyable rally. Gore Branch held their Swap Meet with some members attending.
Best of British Charity Motoring Day 14th March. Held at the Milton Sportsgrounds. The “Marque of the Day” being Commercial/Utility vehicles (vans,
Lorries, ambulances, fire-engines, buses, tractors etc). Hope you had a chance to attend, I hear there were some Wolseley Club members there. Report on the Wednesday Run 3rd March to Central Otago – Ian McDonald reporting The days outing was arranged to meet at Beaumont and 14 cars travelled on to Roxburgh for our annual fruit gathering run. Great weather, perfect for our Picnic lunch. Miller’s Flat pub was our afternoon tea stop where Lucy’s catering was up to her usual high standard.
Wednesday Run 7th April – 1.30 p.m. organised by Noel Aitken and Roger Tapp Noel and Roger have an outing organised for folks to meet beside Taylor Park in Milton for a 60 km drive with a display to view along the way. Afternoon tea to follow. Motorcycle Rally Report from Martin Dodge A team of nearly 30 bikes, with riders and support crew assembled to sample a sumptuous morning tea and delightfully clear weather. Participants were from south in Invercargill, north from Rangiora and anywhere in between. The route took in Kakapuaka, Owaka, Papatowai and Niagara, way over the border in Southland. Lunch at the Niagara Falls Cafe, previously the school, provided a multi choice to suit all tastes. Caution! If you dine al fresco, you may be on the menu for the biting bugs! Curvaceous sealed roads were enjoyed there and back again, though the occasional bike appendage scraped the surface, particularly with generously applied metal remaining on the freshly resurfaced bits. A Rally to remember, thanks to all involved in the organising, feeding and mopping up after failed plumbing on the day.
