February 2020 The first meeting for the year was a busy one with much to report on, events discussed and great to see attendance numbers continuing to increase. A photograph with thanks was received from the Show Queens at the South Otago A & P 2019 Show. Discussion took place on the upcoming Executive meeting. A decision was made to not send a delegate, instead to send 2 people to the A.G.M. in Wanganui later in the year. Martin Dodge was proposed and accepted which will be a good learning experience for him as he is keen to be involved more in the Club along with Gary Beaumont. We are aware the Club needs to look to the future. Dunedin Moped Run – Martin Dodge, Gary Beaumont and Ian McDonald took part – a jolly good run from the Railway Station to Aramoana – beaut day weather-wise and the traffic no problem. Robin McCall joined Vintage Machinery Club members for their outing, began at Devon Bairds in Stirling, Mike Verdoner’s at Kakapuaka and Ian McNutt’s. An interesting outing. Following the business Neville King showed DVD of the first Street Race held in Fryatt Street Dunedin in 1953. NZ Championship with Dougal Stevenson introducing. Held at Queen’s Birthday weekend, The Otago Sports Car Club Coronation Classic. The winner was Ron Roycroft in his Alfa Romeo. Also racing was Sybil Lupp in a Jaguar XK 120. Albert Jenks to show Motorcycle footage at a future meeting. Neville King Reports ----- Our Monthly Wednesday run on 5th February just about didn’t happen. The previous three days of heavy rain put us in doubt. However the weather cleared to a blue sky and warm temperatures. Numbers were down (due to flooding I guess). Off to Roxburgh at 11 am meeting a group from the
Otago Branch at Beaumont for a picnic lunch at the Roxburgh domain. The afternoon visit to the historic Bake house was of great interest to the 28 members. From there across the flooded Clutha River for coffee at the Millers Flat Tavern before everyone departed for home. 4th March Wednesday Run. Ian McDonald has it in hand. Meet 1 pm Club Rooms for detail and the sealed roads to travel on.
Gore Festival Rally – Saturday 22nd February 2020 President Robin recommended our Branch members support the upcoming Rally in Gore which is always a great day out with our neighbouring Branch. 15th March they will be holding their Swap Meet at their Branch Clubrooms.
Wings & Wheels Spectacular – Taieri Airfield Sunday 1st March 2020 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Vintage vehicle and Driver free entry Classic and Contemporary Cars on Show – Free activities for children – a selection of planes and displays
South Otago Branch Motorcycle Rally Saturday 7th March 2020 Roger Smaill has the Motorcycle Rally all organised. Please can we have some morning tea plates to welcome the riders along and set them off for a great days riding. Clinton Hotel for the lunch stop, good roads with a little gravel.
February Meeting Mel Tapp will give a talk on the Dixon Family cars and the Stanley Steamer, also will show a short DVD on its first steam up in 60 years with Mel providing supper. February
