February 2021 Our trusty Toyota had a wee lapse in reliability last week when a CV Joint decided to stop working. What a terrible crunch sound that made. A rescue from the garage was needed and all up and running again, what a worry when you don’t know what the problem is and are stuck on the roadside. The roads have been busy this past week with Motorcycles off to the Burt Munroe event in Invercargill. Noticed a lot stopped in Milton at various times for refreshments. 22 members along for the January meeting after the holiday break. Club Captain Martin reported on a Good Samaritan deed he was happy to do when a very hypothermic motorcycle rider was in need of assistance. After some warmth and nourishment he was able to proceed on his journey. A letter of thanks was received at the Club. Earnscleaugh, Central Otago on 21st March there is to be a Moped Rally for those interested in taking part. V.C.C. Southland Branch are holding an Open Day and Garage Sale on 14th March. A thankyou card and donation was received from the 500 Card Club who use the Clubrooms on a regular basis. March 20th is the next one day Executive Meeting in Wellington. Sending delegates was discussed. Re-branding of the organisation is to be on the agenda. When completing Vehicle Identity forms a photograph of the Chassis Number is to go with the 3 photographs of the vehicle. New in the Parts Shed are various items suitable for 1927 Chrysler/Plymouth donated by Malcolm McIver. Many thanks Malcolm we appreciate this. Please notify Phil Sell if goods are needed in the parts store as he has a great knowledge of items stored and where to find them. Looking for something to do over Easter this year. Wednesday Run Report - On Neville King’s behalf Ian McDonald reports that the outing on 3rd February was an interesting drive to Clinton, Slopedown, Cairn Road, Chloris Pass Road to the Wisp end of Tawanui where a picnic afternoon tea was held. Noticed here has been a lot of pine tree planting on the steep countryside. Our Chairman Robin and Margaret have attended 2 events recently which they enjoyed in their Zodiac. The Plymouth is to undergo a full paint job. The Southland Branch ran an excellent Rally motoring through Morton Mains, and Mataura Island then Southern Scenic Route back to Invercargill. Sunday was the Combined Rally which took in Tuatapere and Winton. A visit to some stationery engines etc also. 2022 will be South Otago Branch’s turn to run this event. The Wallaby Rally run by the Waimate branch on a beautiful day, this being their 40th. Of course a celebratory Cake was in order too. Wednesday Run for March - Leaving the Clubrooms at 11 a.m. travelling to Beaumont where others can be met at 11.30 a.m. to continue on to Roxburgh for your choice of lunch, be it what you bring or the famous Jimmy’s Pies. Afternoon tea will be at Miller’s Flat. Gore Branch Rally 27th February – all the best to those participating this year. South Otago Branch Motorcycle Rally 13th March 10 a.m. Morning Tea 10.30 first bike away Entries are coming in for this Annual Rally. Roger Smaill has all organised. Morning Tea plates of food would be greatly appreciated to welcome all along and set them off for a great days ride on all sealed roads this year. Gore Swap Meet 14th March – They may have just what you are looking for to add to your collection or get your vehicle on the road.
