With great sadness I report the passing of loyal & active member Mr Bill Falconer, to Gaynor and family we pass on our deepest sympathy. Bill enjoyed a great day out on Saturday at the Gore Rally coming home with a certificate and glass for Time Trial Winner Post War Class in their 1952 P4 Rover 75. Bill will be remembered for his hearty laugh, Love for his family, helpful ways especially to our Club and friendships made. Snippets from the Meeting – There was a suggestion that on each meeting night a member gives a short profile of themselves so club members can get to know each other. Bud Jarvie’s family have donated a folder for our Library of newsletters and other papers from when he was a member during the years 2000 to 2016, The Rally Time Clock needs to be returned to the Cabinet in the Clubrooms. Membership form has gone to Trevor Martin of Owaka who has a Plymouth. Neville King showed a DVD of previous Rallies – my we all looked so much younger – great to look back on old friends too with happy memories.
Gore Branch are visiting South Otago for their Tuesday Ramble on 26th March and they have invited South Otago members to join them for lunch at the Town & Country Club. 12.30 p.m. Fish & Chip lunch $15. South Otago Motorcycle Rally 9th March Entry forms are out for the Annual Motorcycle Rally. Roger Smaill has all in hand for another great day out for the entrants. Day begins with morning tea at the Clubrooms so please can we have your support with some food thanks. Helpers will be needed for tail end backup, time check etc. Central Otago Branch Tarras Tootling - Blue Smoke & Pedals Moped Rally Sunday 24th March at Tarras. 10 a.m. $20.00 Wednesday Run 6th March Meet at the Clubrooms at 1 p.m. for a run organised by Don Jenks. Monthly Meeting Night – Visit to Auto Restoration business. Following the business on Tuesday 26th 7.30 p.m. at the Clubrooms a visit will be made to Balclutha Auto Restoration – Jason Brooklands at 12 High Street. Jason has been carrying out work for some members. This is a chance to view progress on these vehicles thanks to their permission.
Wednesday Run Report - Bill reported that 16 vehicles and 35 people took part in the days outing to Roxburgh. Lunch was enjoyed and the opportunity to purchase some fruit along the way. A very nice afternoon tea at the Millers Flat Hotel on the way home provided a good break.
Weekender – Robyn McCall has been trying to put in place an overnight stay at the Tahuna Motor Camp with a trip on the Monarch on 6 th April in the afternoon and a visit to model railway on the Sunday. Will need to be discussed at the meeting before confirming this.
Gore Branch Rally Report A cool morning with a little rain as we set off for Gore to take part in their Festival Rally. 8 vehicles from South Otago Branch met at their Clubrooms for morning tea and collect the Rally pack with instructions for the day’s motoring. We made a wee wrong turn to begin but soon realised our mistake and enjoyed the sights as we travelled along to arrive at Waikaka Hall for the lunch stop. Just enough rain to be a nuisance so lunch indoors. The field tests saw the driver throwing 3 missiles into a container over the rooftop then we had to stop on the line with the front wheel, also 2 questions about gold in the area, a fun challenge. The Cooks came home with a raffle prize, P60 Field Test winner and Runner Up to the Rally Winner in their 1963 Vanguard Standard Six – Congratulations Jan and John. Stuart Milne, with son Warren driving gained 2nd in the P60 Time Trial in their 1967 Wolseley 6/110 MK11. McCall’s in their modern, Percy Burrows 1928 Plymouth Sedan, McDonald’s 1978 Holden Torana – Renton’s 1976 Triumph TC, Paterson’s in their Wolseley 1967 Wolseley 6/110, were the other participants. Overall Rally Winner was Bill Ainge from Gore Club in a 1929 Austin 12/4. Great day Gore Club thanks!
