August 2019 After a few days cool and some rain we have beautiful sunshine today (Sunday 18th). The morning jaunt around the farm reveals some new lambs and a wee calf born overnight – the busy times are here again and Stuart and I are enjoying our farm lifestyle on the small scale that we are. At the July monthly meeting Mel Tapp related a trip he took to the North Island recently with Noel Fenton visiting several motoring related venues. Gary Beaumont suggests a good site to watch on YouTube on World Wide Web is Hagerty’s Garage Finds in America – I checked it out and quite good if you have the time to view. Following the business we enjoyed some insight into life at Mason Bay on Stewart Island and the challenges the early pioneers faced. Gary has attended the National Annual General Meeting in Greymouth and will report at the Meeting. He tells me it was very wet there. Neville King Reports on the 7th August Wednesday outing:Support for the Wednesday Run is steady with 30 members taking part. 14 vehicles drove in dry conditions to Clydevale and Beaumont. This was the Anniversary of the Inaugural run 6 years ago that the late Bill, and Gaynor Falconer instigated. As in 2013 we again had coffee and cakes at the Wild Walnut in Lawrence. Further treats were passed around before everyone departed for home in sunshine. Remember if you missed that one Russell Findlater has a run on 4th September on sealed roads. Meet at Clubrooms 1 p.m. or Beaumont 1.45p.m. – 2 p.m. The Millers Flat Pub has undergone some renovations and the lady of the house is keen to impress you with a newly restored Laverda Motorcycle also. She has quite a collection of Classic Bikes.

The Annual Dinner and Trophy presentation will take place this coming Saturday at the Milton Country Club catered by Kelly’s Café as advised in last month’s
Opening Run – 6th October 2019 – Gordon Duthie has been putting together an outing for all to enjoy. Plans are to meet in Milton and head north to visit Keith Harrington’s property in the Kilmog area then on to Waikouaiti for lunch stop, then travelling on for afternoon tea at the Normandy Tavern in Dunedin. Full details will be in the September Newsletter.
Daffodil Day Fundraiser 25th August 2019 Dress up your vehicle – 1 p.m. start. This year the South Otago Branch will combine with the Otago Branch. Gather at 1 p.m. at the Carpark on the corner of Elizabeth & James Street (Cowley Electrical carpark) $10.00 per car donation. A run will take place ending at Lake Waihola. Take your afternoon tea along if you wish or enjoy an icecream from the local businesses. Combined Rally Report 5 vehicles and South Otago Branch members were able to attend this great weekend of companionship and scenic adventures with places of interest to visit. Chairman Robin reports there were a total of 45 vehicles took part, those from our Club being Margaret & Robin McCall, Wilma & Ian McDonald, Jay & Shelia Patterson, Janette & Devon Baird, Jan & John Cook. They visited Bendigo Station, home of the famous Shrek Sheep which now is also known for its Vineyard. Thank you to the Central Otago Branch for putting together a great weekend. Dunvegan Motorcycle Rally will be held on the 5th October for those interested in attending, information is at the Clubrooms or your August/September Beaded Wheels see advertisement on page 53.
