November 2020 There have been a lot of happenings over the past few weeks. 18 members attended the Monthly meeting. The Resignation of member Janice Soper was recorded. Condolences were sent to Ross Pringle and family on the passing of his father Earle. From National Office, the Calendar of Events for 2021 has been finalised. Advise on deals for travel across the ditch to the North Island received. Letter from Southland Branch re a Combined Rally proposal for Waitangi Weekend 6th/7th February 2021. To run in conjunction with their Branch Annual Rally on the Saturday continuing with an event on the Sunday. All agreed this would work well and could boost their Rally numbers too. Lawrence held an excellent Heritage Day with working displays at the Vintage Machinery Club attracting a good crowd. Wednesday Run report – A good turnout of 30 members to make the most of the fine day. We visited the property of Ian and Glenda McNutt. Their restorations of trucks and tractors together with the small museum is a credit to them. Ian’s first Ford V8 and Paul’s Model A were paired up for photo shoots. The afternoon concluded with the drive to Kaka Point for Afternoon Tea.
49th Annual Clutha Rally A fine weather day after some threatening spots early morning. Organisers could be happy with all the plans they made falling into place for a great days motoring through the countryside of South Otago. 44 Entries this year. Folks arrived at the Town & Country Club in Balclutha to receive their Rally packs and enjoy morning tea. First car away at 10.30 a.m. on a choice of 2 Routes and 3 average speeds. A drive thru the grounds of the Clutha Views Rest Home gave the residents a chance to see us as we gave them a wave. There was a good view from the hilltops as we passed the Wind Turbines at Mt Stuart. On to Waitahuna, Lawrence, Tuapeka West, continuing on to Tuapeka Mouth for the lunch stop in the grounds by the School building where many searched the lists for relations who may have been taught there many years ago. Back to the Town & Country Club for afternoon tea, Prize giving and Raffle draw. Thanks go to Club Captain Martin Dodge, Secretary Gary Beaumont, Sponsors and all who assisted to make this a great day. Congratulations to all Winners. Taieri Tour 7 November – Margaret & Robin McCall’s Plymouth was unfortunately clipped by a logging truck trailer on their way to the Rally and will be heading to the panel beaters. They were able to complete the Rally. Congratulations to Murray Lloyd on gaining 2nd Post War in the 1952 Triumph.
Wednesday Run 2nd December 2020 - Meet at the Clubrooms 11 a.m. or alternatively at Mt Stuart Reserve on S.H. 8 at 12 o’clock. Bring all requirements for your picnic lunch. Otago Branch have been invited along too. (9 weeks until our next run on 3 rd February 2021)
