My thanks go out to all who helped with the speedy delivery of the daffodils on the 24th of August. The Cancer Society were very pleased with our efforts .Special thanks to Norm Bunt in sorting the envelopes which made the delivers that much easier. Thanks again. Notice of Meeting. Formal notice is hereby given to Members that a Special General Meeting will be held at the Branch Clubrooms Redruth Street Timaru at 8pm on Thursday 3 December 2020. Purpose of Meeting: To present the draft Constitution Rules of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand South Canterbury Branch Incorporated and move its adoption to replace the present Branch Rules 2016. Pauline Young Branch Secretary Members will note that this date is the same as for our regular noggin and this will still take place on the same evening. A full attendance of members would be appreciated.

SCVCC Chairman’ Report November 2020 Hi Fellow Members, Welcome to my second last report for 2020. Christmas is too close and we have quite a few events to look forward to before then. Importantly , I urge as many of you as possible to attend the December Noggin & Natter where we need to formalise the adoption of the Club’s updated Constitution. The formal part should not take too long & Barry Barnes will be on hand to answer any queries. Plus we hope to have a speaker as well. VERY IMPORTANT, The annual Christmas Dinner at The Club Rooms is on Saturday November 28th. Tickets $36.00 from your committee Members We need to reach a certain number to make it viable so please decide quickly. The recent Annual Mount Cook Rally went off well, The weather did not co operate but not as bad as last year. A big thanks to all that helped to make it happen. Report next month

Notes from the Library
November 2020
Activity in the last month has centred around working on the magazine stock which has been boosted with the addition of a considerable number donated by Judy Edwards from the vast collection Dick had amassed over the years in particular early editions of Australian magazines Motor Manual, Modern Motor, and Wheels, English magazines Autocar and Motor plus some unique Russian publications covering the motor industry in that country. Inevitably there have been duplicates and our stock of duplicate magazines and other books is burgeoning with a few disappearing from the table but not as quickly as they are arriving, so keep checking them out for the new arrivals AND TAKE SOME AWAY! Thanks to Alistair and Ashley, offcuts from the roofing project have been converted for dividers for the magazines and they will also serve for placing the labels on, rather than on the shelves which will make it much easier for additional stocks to be inserted. I have already used them up so I guess I will need to prevail upon Ashley to make me some more! Barry Barnes Librarian

Fingers crossed no Covid interruptions will occur, so we can proceed with this event for which detailed planning is commencing. We intend to visit an interesting property near Christchurch as our Saturday lunch stop and am investigating another visit to a unique car collection as part of Sunday activities. There will be some options for those staying over Monday night too or even deciding to leave for home later in the day. Saturday night a meal out and Sunday night communal meal at our digs. Adoption of new Constitution

Elsewhere in this issue is a notice of a Special General Meeting to be held in conjunction with our December Noggin Night, to consider and adopt a revised Branch Constitution. Previously these have been referred to as the Branch Rules. The history behind this is that over the last few years National President Diane Quarrie has developed a new draft constitution for Branches mindful that despite all the changes over the years many branches have not kept theirs up to date. Ours was revised in 2016 but it was decided that it would be best to use the new draft as a base to incorporate our existing rules along with the general provisions of the new draft some of which were not covered in our rules. Those of you who receive the Tricar by email will also receive an attachment of the proposed new Constitution for our Branch. If anyone wishes to receive a copy of the previous Rules and or the draft produced by VCC of NZ please email me at bandcbarnes@slingshot.co.nz and I will send a copy. Similarly, for those who still receive a printed copy I could arrange to supply a printed copy of all or any of the documents upon request. It is impracticable to fully itemise all the changes from our old rules and the draft constitution but the following is a summary of the most important items. 1. The opportunity has been taken to consistently refer to Chairperson, remove brackets around certain words and other largely editorial amendments. 2. The order of paragraphs and some content under various headings which in some cases differs between the old rules and the draft, now follow the draft. The content and intent is, in the majority of instances, the same. 3. Membership: The provisions for Branch life membership have been changed to incorporate the provisions of our old Rules except that we have included the option of considering a nomination at a Special General Meeting as well as AGM. 4. The Conduct and Discipline Clause from the draft has been included. Our previous rules were silent on this aspect. 5. Election of Branch Committee: The provisions for accepting nominations from the floor of an AGM have been clarified. A provision has been inserted to limit the term of tenure for any position on the Committee to 4 years with the proviso that in the event no nomination for a particular position is received the incumbent who has served their 4 year term may then be re-elected.
6 Finance: Provision has been made so that signatories to Branch ac8 counts do not need to be members of the Branch Committee but must be appointed by the Committee. Note As we move toward a chequeless economy at a rapid rate, banking rules are requiring that ALL accounts held by the Branch have the same signatories so in practice this provision is unlikely to be necessary but it is considered useful to retain to cover changeover periods when new officers are appointed and in case any changes in Bank policy allow different accounts to be administered by different people. 7. Provisions from our old Rules relating to the Common Seal and Indemnities have been transferred to the new Constitution. I would like to assure members that the provisions have been carefully considered by your Committee at a special meeting and subsequent Committee Meetings and we feel we can confidently recommend the adoption of the Constitution to members. However it is not too late for members to require changes to be made. If members have any queries at all, please contact me by email or at phone 6885105. I will have copies of all the documents at our November Noggin Night and would also be happy to go over anything with interested members. Barry Barnes

THE NATIONAL VETERAN RALLY held in Gore 16 – 18th October 10 2020 with 53 entries, 4 from the North Island and the rest from South Island, majority Southland – a good bunch. Thursday 15th October: Eric and I loaded the 1906 Darracq onto the trailer ‘kindly loaned by Clive Merry’, for an early start on Friday morning. Arrived in Gore around 4ish, unloaded the car, booked into the Hotel then went across the road to the vintage car club rooms for the meet and greet and pick up instructions. The Saturday Rally – the cars assembled on different streets in order of age of vehicle for the public display. Period costuming was well supported. After about an hour we were sent on our way by the Mayoress Tracey Hicks . The rally route took us out to a beautiful homestead called Mariarua where we assembled on the rather large front lawn. They had a pony club arena at the Homestead where the local pony club put on a demonstration. The afternoon run took us out to a Tulip farm where all the tulips were in flower. There is 5 main companies producing 175 million bulbs each year. The largest market is the USA, with bulbs going to Canada and Europe. We returned to Gore. The next day we assembled at the Show Grounds for field tests and public display which was well supported. On Monday afternoon we took a trip to Pukerau to the late Robin Dickson’s shed to a collection beyond belief. From veteran to 1960’s cars. Some complete and some are projects!! All these cars will be auctioned some time in 2021-22, it will take that long to sort everything out. Tuesday – Day 1 of the Prince Henry Tour to Te Anau with approx. 15 veteran cars. First stop was the Mandeville Aviation Heritage Museum in the grounds. John Calleson’s two entries en route to the Veteran Rally at Gore, his well motored Cadillac and his newly restored 1915 Dodge

There was a beautifully restored K92 locomotive. Next stop Greg Elder’s property to view his amazing collection of cars. Then onto Lumsden for lunch. There wee two v class locomotives excavated from the Oreti River this year. These were built in 1885 and were dumped in the river as flood protection in 1927. From there we continued to Te Anau. Wednesday - Day 2 got away at 10am to destination of Cascade Creek camping area for lunch. After lunch returned to Te Anau and enjoyed a meal at the ‘Moose.’ Thursday – Day 3 got away at 10am heading for Manapouri, a look around the village and then head for Mossburn then onto Winton for lunch. After lunch visited Maimumu and then home to Gore and prepare for the prizegiving dinner at Rustic Ridges. Eric and I were presented with a couple of toothpicks to get the bugs out of our teeth as we were the only car without a windshield. Eric was also presented with a woolly wig in Otago colours. We completed over 1,000 Ks in the Darracq, driven all the way by Eric, trouble free. The only time we had the toolbox out was to work on other vehicles. It was a marvellous week of motoring in the old car, with good weather and company, so thank you very much Eric for inviting me to accompany you on this unforgettable rally and tour. This very successful event was held at Levels Motor Raceway at the beginning of October. Several of our SCVCC members were involved in the event with a large number of members vehicles being put on display for the weekend, and those with machinery and trucks had them on show as well.

FOR SALE Ford Prefect= between 1938-45. Partly Restored. Owner now unable to drive or complete restoration, so reluctantly has to sell it. We are unable to determine the exact age. Engine: Head casket and value replaced, value reseated, cleaned carburetor, engine has ticked over unfortunately not recently, battery and coil will need to be replaced, has underseal. Things replaced with new: wooden floor, roof lining, upholstery, paint work, front window. Seven tyres and rims available. New rubbers and window guides needed for back and side window. Car has been housed in a garage. Not rust to our knowledge. $5,000 has been spent on replacements and restoration to this stage. Asking price is $5,000 which would cover the cost of the replacements. CONTINENTAL RUN
We met at the club rooms for morning tea there was a very good turnout of cars considering it wasn't advertised even though I went to the courier office and the breeze radio station 2 weeks before hand.There was a charge of $10 a car which was donated to Riding for the Disabled. 22 cars started on the run John Geels had a very nice Fiat 124 Sports which was restored beautifully.We had 2 routes a gravel and a tassel route.We arrived at Kimbell and had a lovely lunch which wasn't expensive all appreciated not having to take their lunch.A car club arrived from Ashburton and admired some of our cars.After lunch the people who wanted to go on the gravel went back to Fairlie and turned onto Rockwood Road then onto Spur Road finishing up in Pleasant Point where some of us had real fruit icecreams from strawberry divine.the sealed route also ended up in Pleasant Point. Overall it was an enjoyable day.Hope to see you all back next year.Many thanks to Ross Luscombe for helping me with the rally route .Kevin Manchester

Attendance of parts shed regulars on wednesday mornings has been somewhat lower than over winter due to them taking the opportunity to have a holiday or to attend some of the out of town events that are now able to be held. However we are welcoming more non-member visitors and are able to sell parts to most of these people. We have had some early Morris 4 speed gearboxes donated as well as a Morris 8 short block. We have another Vauxhall 14 6 cylinder head assembly, some Mark 3 Zephyr heads complete with valves and rocker gear, and a good assortment of Willys 77 parts from the mid 1930s.
