We have a lot of new members, so if you feel you could do your bit on the committee, then please allow your name to go forward. As normal, all positions are up for election. NOW is the time to do something for your club. Have your say into how the branch is running. New blood could make a difference. Further to the nominations required for club management, the Newsletter Editor or Editors is a position to be filled, as your existing editors are retiring from the job after 20plus years! 5 TRICAR MAIL OUTS. I have received the new Membership List for our branch. If you are receiving your TRICAR by email and are happy with that arrangement, then there is no need to do anything. IF, HOWEVER, you decide you would like to revert back to receiving your TRICAR by POST, I am happy to change you over. YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT ME, either by email or leave a message on my home phone 03 688 6108. The $2 per month fee will still apply for those who wish to receive it by post. These accounts will be sent with your July Magazine. We will be changing who prints our Tri-Cars at the same time, so I need to know promptly. Leaving the clubrooms the run headed towards Landsborough Rd & Claremont. Over to Rosebrook Rd & along Cliffs Rd for a little shingle. Then across & down the Fairview zig zag & over to Beaconsfield for a little more shingle on Chapel Rd. Heading into town via various streets & along Queens St into the Gardens & left to the Enclosed Rose Garden (Andersons) for afternoon tea. A very sheltered spot for our cuppa & chat. With 15 cars on the fun it was a good afternoon out. Sticks Secretary

Hi Fellow members Well its good to have Manic March behind us & Easter as well The Swap meet was highly successful , The club membership should be very grateful to all the club members that contributed their time to make happen, In the paperwork, setting up, on the day & breaking down on the Sunday. The financials will be available at the AGM The Easter Vintage Rally was very enjoyable , A BIG well done to Nola & Alistair for coming up with the concept & carrying it out. Looking Forward, we have the PV—P80 Rally on May 9th , Mid Week run on the, th rd 13 and the Restoration Run on the 23 Thursday June 3rd is the club’s AGM There are lots of positions to be filled I expect there will be lots of lobbying at the next few gatherings VERO Insurance supports the VCC & our branch receives monthly “commission” payments. I recently changed my house cover from AMI to VERO , There was a $430 saving on the AMI premium. Well worth the phone call I encourage all members to seriously consider a change . The site at the Swap Meet proved successful in disposing of the majority of the surplus magazines and even some of the Monthly series booklets “The Car” “On Four Wheels”etc. I did find while browsing through some of these that there were some potted histories of various makes and it occurred to me they would make an adjunct to the Antique Automobile magazines that have been indexed for their marque histories so I put those aside and have indexed them too so we have now quite a collection of articles I can go to straight away when asked if we have anything on any particular make. Sales of duplicated manuals went quite well and a few general duplicated books were sold too. In all proceeds from sales have allowed for the purchases of several stationery items (folders for filingTricar, glue, card, etc) and there are sufficient funds left to buy stationery and other miscellaneous Library purchases for a while. Recent work has involved sorting and shelving “Formula 1” magazines covering a 20 year span from 1997, which may be of interest to some of our keen followers of motor racing. There were a few duplicates which have made their way to the duplicates table. This is an ongoing process as stuff is processed in the Library so be sure to check it out on Club Nights and help yourself. I may be unable to attend the Library on Club Nights over the next few months but the Library will be opened as usual and any members wishing to take or return items should record accordingly in the book. Similarly, anyone wanting access on Wednesday mornings should talk to a committee member on the day.
LIBRARIAN POSITION
Our new constitution recently adopted has a provision the no position on the Committee can be held beyond a 3 year period except in certain circumstances. This will affect the Librararian position and several others. What it means is that the present holder of any position for 3 years or more cannot be renominated for the position by the normal written nomination. If during this process one or more nominees come forward the position would be filled accordingly. In the event no written nominees are received for any of the positions affected, the Chairman must call for nominations from the floor of the AGM. If no nominations are forthcoming, then and only then can the incumbent who has served their 3 year term be nominated. In so far as the Librarian position is concerned, I am happy to retain involvement as an assistant or whatever if required to help a new appointee. It is probably time for someone to introduce a new perspective in any case. Barry

Thanks to Dave Diamond owning a Western Star truck and trailer unit we were able to shift a variety of gear to the event. As Dave had just fin-
ished restoring a rare 6 cylinder Oliver O6 crawler tractor it was first on, then our Glenwillow Farms Farmall 504 diesel tractor then the farms International C1840 8ton V/8 with Gavin Ladbrooks 1924 “back country special” Dodge Tourer piggybacked on the International, as seen by the photo, quite a load, which Driver Dave in true “Trucker” fashion handled very well on the difficult Lindis Pass route to Wanaka. Gavins old Dodge was quite a drawcard amongst the vehicle display so much so that the Otago Daily had quite an article featuring it in their Monday after paper, seen here. A great weekends event with a huge amount of equipment to view and see working. Thanks Dave for the transport.

VETERAN VINTAGE TOUR 2021

On Tuesday 6th April a group met at the clubrooms for briefing before the start of the Veteran Vintage Tour. Being held immediately after the Easter Vintage Rally meant most the entrants were from out of town. We had a pleasant couple of hours getting to know each other. The next morning dawned sunny and everyone set off at their own pace, armed with their instructions and a healthy sense of humour. We were headed for Naseby for two nights. Unfortunately, Gavin and I were unable to join them yet as I had an exam. They spent two nights there and visited Hayes Engineering and the old Sanitorium. Next stop was Queenstown for two nights. We had gone straight there the day before. First day was the planned trip into Skippers Canyon which most people were looking forward too. Unfortunately, due to rain we had to cancel and had a rest day. Everyone did their own thing with visits to Glenorchy, Arrowtown or Coronet Peak for some. From here we all travelled to Te Anau where we were booked for three nights. The first day dawned sunny with cloud so off we set for Milford Sound. Much disgust was expressed at the expense of the parking here. One couple took the opportunity to do a Sounds Cruise. As we were having lunch we watched the big black clouds begin to roll across the top of the Mitre Peak. Many of us in open topped cars decided to make a run for Te Anau. Unfortunately we had to pull under trees to put the tops up on our cars. Much hilarity and banter ensued as those in the closed cars drove past with toots and in some cases calls of ‘Chicken’. We all made it back to Te Anau but one unfortunate couple had a problem with their hood and have to return with it down.

Each evening we had a happy hour and the much feared ‘Wooden Spoon’ was awarded amid much hilarity and fun. The next morning we visited a private collection of army vehicles and memorabilia which was exceptionally restored and presented. Once again the rain had come in and everyone did their own thing. A group of us decided to drive into Mavora Lakes where we had a picnic without rain. Some of the group had continued up to Mount Nicolas and Walter Peak where they had clear weather. Next day dawned clear as we left Te Anau and after a stop in Lumsden for coffee for many, we travelled to Gore. On the way we visited another private collection. This time it was a car collection with many beautifully restored and others underway. A stop at Mandeville was also in the instructions where we visited the Airport and Aviation Heritage Museum. Tonight we had dinner at the RSA and what a feed. No one left hungry. Day 9 we left Gore and headed through the Day’s old stomping ground of Heriot. We travelled up over the hills where we were treated to some stunning views before descending into the valley and on to Alexandra. Gavin and I took our time and did a few detours along the way. This was our last night and after happy hour we all had a final dinner together. What an amazing group we had. Personally, I found the smaller number of entrants meant everyone got to know each other. There was a lot of fun had and many promises to meet again in 2023 for the next tour. The wooden spoon and hooter was duly passed on to the next organisers who will be organising a great time in the North Island. A huge thanks to Alistair and Nola for organising this great trip.
