In the Driving Seat It’s really great to see the turn out of members for our club nights to support the guest speakers who have regaled us with a variety of topics from VW’s to Enduring Powers of Attorney, Trusts, The Manapouri dam and recently scams. With the rallying season starting in earnest, the speakers are now on hold until early next year. The committee has a couple of speakers already lined up for 2020 however we would love to add to the list so if you know of anyone who would be interested then please let us know. Thank you to the small committee who organised our display at the Autospectacular. This was very much put together at the last minute as we were on a waiting list while we waited for the organising committee to find us a site. Following on from the Autospectacular was the GM Night Rally with this years route arranged by a couple from the Land Rover Club who decided that they would shake things up by not having the winners organise the next event. 2020’s rally will be organised by Ruth and Gil Edmunds so please note this in your diaries as I know they will appreciate the support. October is a busy month for the branch starting with the annual Dunvegan rally. Nevin Gough is organsing the Prince Henry Tour for the Veteran Vehicles which is held either prior to or following the National Veteran Rally. At the same time we will he hosting the entrants participating in the North Cape to Bluff Tour. We have been invited to join them on the Taieri Gorge trip on Wednesday the 16th which will be followed by a dinner at the club rooms that night. I would really appreciate some support from members so please let me know if you are able to attend. Coming up in November will be the Taieri Tour and the Commercial Veteran Rally - entry forms can be found in the magazine, at the club rooms or from Marion. Annual Membership Fees - It’s
that time of the year again. Your membership Fee Accounts should have reached your door by now. If not please let National Office know as soon as possible. If paying by Internet Banking please ensure that you include your membership number, surname and branch details. National Office is receiving payments which are unidentifiable – make sure you get your details correct. Also if you pay earlier you get a discount off your fees.

Quest Speakers – Club Nights We have had a good selection of Speakers on the Last Friday of each month over the winter period. Thanks very much to those members who have given of their time to set up their presentations. We will have a break over the next few months, as we head into the motoring season. We will let you know when the next Speakers will be planned for

VIC Applications – please note - VIC Application forms have been updated. When completing these forms please ensure that you have the most up to date form – Check the VCC website. – As these continue to be updated as procedures change etc.
Other Branch Rally Entry Forms - as you will see there are a lot of events happening in and around our region over the next 6 months. I email details to all members who have email address’s. There are sometimes a few copies in the clubrooms, please ensure you leave at least one copy there, so that others can copy them. Photocopier is available. NNB: Please if you are planning to enter a local event, and running late with entry forms, please contact the organizer by phone or email to let them know you are coming. They need to know numbers for printing the instructions, and catering purposes for some events.
Spare Parts Shed – Parts shed is usually open every Wednesday morning, and Friday evenings when the clubrooms are open. Reminder – see if you can effectively recycle your parts before scrapping them. NO TYREs by request. SOLD OR SELLING YOUR VIC’D VCC VEHICLE ENSURE YOU SEND VIC CARD ALONG WITH CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP DETAILS TO NATIONAL OFFICE – Remember this paperwork is the property of the National Club – this is their way of keeping records of Vehicle ownership etc. Vero Insurance Scheme - Just a reminder, the VCC Vero insurance scheme is set up for those with current VCC membership. If they have insurance cover under the VCC Scheme with Vero, current membership is a requirement.
Obituary: Ed Boyd - Management Committee Member - Whanganui It is with much sadness that I advise that Management Committee member Ed Boyd passed away peacefully but unexpectedly at his home in Whanganui in the early hours of 10 September 2019. Ed has been a member of the Management Committee for 7 years and he will be greatly missed by his friends in the Vintage Car Club from all over New Zealand. Diane Quarrie National President 9
PWV/P60/P80 Rally Report 2019 A typical, calm sunny spring, Dunedin/Otago day was enjoyed by 16 vehicles as we drove through to Gabriel’s Gully on Sunday 22nd September. We left the Clubrooms via Blackhead, Fairfield, Saddle Hill and down Scroggs Hill Road to Allanton. Over to Outram, then up to Lees Stream before turning left towards Lake Mahinerangi (a spectacular lake, which supplies the Waipori Power Station, and a popular boating and fishing area – Saturdays Otago Daily times reported that remnants of the original gold mining village have been exposed, due to the low water levels at present). From there we headed inland towards Lawrence and Gabiel’s Gully for a picnic lunch beside the pond. A nice spot for a picnic, and a walk around the tracks of the old Gold Mining area. Some of us needing to shake of the dust and check the rattles, after navigating the gravel roads. Views were worth it. Along with the vehicles noted with placings, there were a 1971, 1972, 1979, 1980 Triumph’s, a 1961 Riley, 1963 Hillman Minx, 1972 Clubman, two Cortina’s and two modern vehicles joined us. It was great to see Joanne Cochrane out in her Triumph again, after a time away from the club. She had her mum and daughters acting as navigators. All itching for one of Lawrence’s well known ice cream cones once they left on their journey home. Weatherstones Daffodil park, and the Lawrence Machinery Museum were both open for entrants to visit at their leisure. On the trip home there was a diversion to drive past the Wind Farm on Mount Stuart. From the top of the hill here, you get some . 10
amazing views, almost 360 degrees on a clear day. There were no PWV vehicles entered this year. First P60 Vehicle was Malcom Eunson in his 1971 MGB GT. Runner up was Neil Gamble in his1971 Volkswagon 1500 (and his beautifully heated pie! – he managed to rig up a spot around his exhaust, I think, to heat it while he drove). First P80 Vehicle was Ray Wilson in this 1986 Ford Laser and Andrew Roxburgh on his 1986 Honda Motorcycle. The 1st place getters were advised that they will be organising next years Rally - They did smile! Thanks to Merv Thomson, Kevin Mason and Bryan McConachie who put their skills together and turned up the run

DAFFODIL DELIVERIES FOR CANCER SOCIETY Our branch had 10 members out delivering preordered daffodils on Monday 26th of August to business's around Dunedin. This would have taken them 2 -21/2 hours each to do this. University students volunteers go with the drivers and act as runners, while the drivers stay with their cars. This is the forth year we have done this. There is always a challenge to try and figure out where certain business are actually physically located, especially around the University and CBD. Always handy to have internet access to find these places, as they are sometimes housed in multi storied buildings.
From the Cancer Society Can you please make sure all your fabulous drivers with their fabulous cars know how grateful we are for their help delivering the daffs… it is always such a great day and the students really enjoy their experience going out as runners. Daffodil Rally for Cancer 2019
On Sunday 25th August 2019 the National body of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand ran a fundraising event for the Cancer Society as well as raising the profile of the VCC. As the advertising brochure read: “All across New Zealand, hundreds of vehicles will be on the road or on display, at the same time to raise money for the Cancer Society” This event was open to everyone no matter what kind of vehicle they drove The Otago Branch of the VCC NZ like the other 27 branches ran their own individual fundraising run. Again the assembly point was the well utilised Ice Stadium car park here in Dunedin The finish of the afternoons run was at Lake Waihola where entrants met up with fellow members of the South Otago branch. John N Editors Note - Thanks to the approximate 15 VCC and public vehicles that supported this event. The day was a pleasant driving day for people to follow instructions out to Waihola for afternoon tea. We had members from the local Steam Punk Group add a little character to the event – having dressed up and also picniced with their themed tables decked with period china, linen and goodies to eat. Everyone seemed to enjoy being able to have a look at the amazing selection of vehicles, at their leisure. There was everything from a veteran Overland, Aston Martin, MG's, Holdens, Fords, Vauxhalls, Rovers, Motorcycles, Hot Rods a more modern BMW, and much more. A few owners dressed their vehicles with the Daffodil theme. The winners for the day were the three ladies who dressed up in the daffodil colours. South Otago Branch arranged their own tour from Balclutha bringing another 15 to 20 vehicles to Waihola. It was a BYO afternoon tea. There were shops close by if people wanted to get Coffee etc.

Also, the local Mini Group were celebrating their 60th birthday in Omarama, so they had a separate display over there and collected donations for the Cancer Society. NB in discussion with South Otago Branch we felt it was worthwhile combining the two tours to meet at one venue. We hope to be able to plan a similar event next year. Would be good to be able to get entrants to dress up more to the theme of the event. We still think that this time of the year, for us anyway is not so good, as can be cold and wet. Also competing with the Rigs for Special Kids event which brings out 100's of rigs, and lots of people to the streets to watch them going past. The Cancer Society reports that our Rally raised $732, The team in Omarama raised $103.70 and David Mills took some daffodils to the Cable Car Unveiling on the Saturday with a total of $83.60. Latest details are that $75,000 was raised Nationally by the club. A great effort by everyone.

AUTOSPECTACULAR 2019 Thank you to the vendors of the Swap Sites along with the Businesses that had Trade Sites. We also thank all our Sponsors to whom we are grateful, as without your support we would not be able to run this event. A very special Thank You to our Naming Rights sponsor Hydraulic Services and Repairs Ltd for an awesome interactive trade site. Once again, we were overwhelmed with Club and Individual entries and had to put some on a waiting list. We realise Clubs like to have a preferred site or a prime site but to be fair to all clubs we rotate sites. Plus, as entries arrive in the mail-box they are placed on the floor plan as "First In, Best Placed" and unfortunately one or two clubs end up at the far end in the corner. We don't have endless space and are limited by four walls. We also encourage clubs to update your email or postal addresses with us as this year, quite a few emails bounced back. To all the Clubs, Individuals and Businesses that have emailed or phoned through with your wonderful comments, they are very much appreciated and gives the hard-working committee and helpers a real boost. Thank you for that. We appreciate any comments so if you have any ideas or helpful hints that could improve the event that would be great. As with any publications these are only as good as the material that is provided .
