Chairperson Report Well just when you thought a lockdown was just a memory, we entered a new nation wide Level 4 Lockdown last week. We are still waiting to see how long this lockdown will last. For those that can I hope you are able to spend sometime on those projects you never get around to doing. As I work for an Essential company I continue to work each day but instead of going into the office I just go to my desk at home aka the dining room table. Over the weekend I spent some time sewing some Face Masks on a vintage (1970’s) sewing machine. As a result of the lockdown the committee made the decision to cancel our Daffodil day Show and Shine. We have decided that the funds raised from Next Years All British Day will be donated to Our local Cancer Society. The Weekend before Lockdown I went to Christchurch to attend the National AGM and Executive meetings. Please see below my report for National AGM and Executive meeting. Executive and AGM Report Hawkes Bay branch motion. The Hawkes Bay branch of the Vintage Car Club sent a motion to be consider and ratified by the Executive to make a change to the name of their branch. The motion is “That we change our name from the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand Hawkes Bay Branch (Incorporated) to The Hawkes Bay Vintage and Classic Car Club (Incorporated)” The executive decided after a lot of discussion about this proposed name change for the branch that a decision on this would not be made until the next executive meeting in March 2022. Budget The executive agreed to pass the proposed National budget for 2022 – 2023.
Update on Changes at National Office Murray Trounson gave the executive an update and progress on all the changes that he has been helping to make in regards to the admin/accounting system for National Office. These changes are certainly coming along very well, with many great benefits to efficiency in the processes. From this year after the Annual subs are sent out to all members, if a member does not pay on time and becomes a Non-Financial Member then the reminders will be sent from National office to the member. Previously this information has been proved to each branch secretary to then remind any of their members.
Logo The Management committee proposed to the executive that the vote on the logo be delayed until March 2022. The reasons they gave for this was based on a lot of feedback they had received from many branches about the proposed logo. It was felt from the feedback that the proposed logo was still not quite right, and a few design changes could be made to it and also many branches saying that they felt they did not have enough time to make the decision. The management would also like to send a member of the management committee to attend a club night at each branch to give a presentation on the logo. This will be organised with us over the next few months. The executive agreed to the vote on the logo being delayed until the next Executive Meeting in March 2022 Result of the vote to change constitution to allow on-line member application This proposed remit was passed with 93% of the vote in favour of the change. This will allow in the future for Prospective members to have the choice of filling in the paper form or filling in and submitting the form online via the Clubs website.
Club Captain Report Here we are again, in lock down with Club activities on hold until further notice. Most of you will have seen the reply I sent to VCC national office in regards to the Daffodil day. It was a shame to have to cancel but with the postponement likely to be rescheduled for late October/November it would have clashed with our usual run of events and our commitment to donate next years All British profits to our local Cancer society means they will not miss out. For those of you who had volunteered to help with the show and shine, thanks again. Perhaps next year’s event will proceed without disruption. The Teapot rally is our next event scheduled for 17th October. I am hopeful that we will be in a position to do this rally and use the event to show off our refurbished club rooms to our neighbours. We already have a couple of stalls booked for the November swap meet and planning will ramp up next month for this and the Windsor rally. I am still looking for anyone willing to make up a small group to ensure the Windsor is planned efficiently. The committee has already agreed to look at booking the Five Forks Hall again this year which has been done. Getting access to some land again this year will have to wait until at least level 3. Lastly, in recent years All British has finished at Totara estate, Duntroon camp and Elderslie Estate. Can you all throw some suggestions at me for a venue for next year. We do need some cover just in case the weather is bad but a large woolshed would provide that. Derek
JOHN HARPER Sadly, John died in England on 31st May 2021. John joined North Otago Branch twice – the last time being in January 2020. He regularly attended the Parts Group on Monday mornings. John was a genuine ‘down to earth’ person whose vehicles had to be useable. He had sold a number of his vehicles before he returned to England last October. John was English and each year he and his partner Wendy travelled to France and England. Murray Frew remembers John as ‘Wendy’s Gopher’, delivering furniture to be reupholstered. John used his ‘original’ Morris Minor Well – Side Ute for these deliveries. Kathleen Perry.

Club Rooms Upgrade We are still making progress despite the latest upheaval. Robert continues to work through the massive task of reinstating the library. Once there is a little more room we will install the new cabinet to house the model cars etc. That will all but complete this part of the upgrade. For those of you present at our last club meeting you will be aware that we have received a substantial grant from the JW Christie Trust. The application to the trust set out the purpose for which the funds were needed, namely to secure space for Club Captains equipment and archives. Building a plan and timeline for this next stage of work will be discussed at the next club committee meeting. The men’s toilet is still out of action with September still pencilled in as the likely completion date. The plumber has been back and completed the pipe work allowing us to then finish the wall cladding and stopping. The floor has been reinstated and painting has started. Once we can access the club rooms again the painting will be completed and thin board laid throughout the area in readiness for the vinyl. Once this is done the plumber will install the urinal and toilet completing this phase. Work on the feature wall has been progressing well but again work has stopped until we enter level two. The committee was expecting to discuss the options for decorating the feature wall at our August meeting which may be delayed for some weeks. We are still hopeful that we can complete the majority of the upgrade as planned with the polyurethaning of the T&G floor delayed until Nov-Dec when the temperature allows the floor to cure quickly. The event is open to financial members of the Vintage Car Club of NZ.

The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any entrant whose conduct is, in their opinion, likely to bring discredit to the event or club.
Cancellation refunds after 10 days prior to the Tour will be at the discretion of the Organisers.
Accomodation Accommodation and catering is entrants responsibility. There is plenty of accommodation available in the Kerikeri/ Bay of Islands area—or if you desire it is less than 100kms on good roads back to Whangarei. If you haven’t booked yet, do it soon. Covid19 Please note IF Northland is in Level Three on the date of the FNT we will be unable to hold the Tour. Your payments to the NVCC for the Tour will be refunded. It is your responsibility to talk to your accommodation hosts to see if they will also refund your deposit.

The afternoon section of the drive features wonderful coastal and rural roads with great views and time to stop and enjoy the scenery. There will be a vehicular ferry crossing payment for this (and any passengers), will be the responsibility of the driver.

From about 10am till lunchtime (whatever that means), the clubrooms and Spare Parts shed welcome members for a cuppa and a browse. It’s a friendly atmosphere with lots of banter, expressions of views on local and world events, and even some work gets done – at times. There is always some sort of chat about cars, parts, where to go for good service, who supplies that particular part you need and general ideas about mechanical aspects and issues. The session is very informal and people come and go as they wish. The only structure is a cuppa and a chat. No pressure or expectation to do anything other than enjoy each other’s company. Some mornings are busier than others. Everyone is welcome. So if you Heavy discussion happening here!
