From the Committee February 2019 It has been decided by the committee to have 2 working Bee’s one inside club rooms to tidy up cups etc, and one outside to assist parts strip usable parts from old cars etc trim lower branches. The dates that have been suggested are either March 16th or 23rd starting at 8.30am the date will be confirmed before the next club night. Here’s a chance to meet other members contribute something back to the club, and finish with a sausage sizzle and some social time. The March Club night, Peter Fulton will bring along his home-built special and talk about it. It’s approaching our AGM in June and we will need some new blood on the committee don’t be backward in offering to step up I’m sure that committee members can tell you about the what it entails, if you would like to be involved with the running of the club here’s your chance. We will have vacancies for Treasurer, Secretary, Club captain etc do give it some thought. On Saturday the 1st of June we are getting a visit from the Ashburton Branch who have asked us to organise a run for them and would love some of our members to join in, so note this down in your Diary, The editor is always looking for copy for the Distributor it’s about time some of you put pen to paper, before the memories of that great rally, car build etc fade away, it’s easy enough to sit there complaining about the content, yours could be the article that everyone enjoys reading. The Committee thanks member and others for the articles provided. A number of our members went on last years Irishman’s surely there could be a story or two from this, some of our motorcycle members have just been away on the National motorcycle Rally in Blenheim what about some pictures and a story. Welcome to new and returning members McBride’s, Ken Lawson, Hearne’s and Wes Hamilton. Adventures of an old restorer I haven't managed to do a lot to the Morris over the past month as Jen and I have been busy organising All British Day for our VCC Branch. Having said that I did manage to get three coats of Primer/filler onto her, whilst rubbing down after each coat I went round inspecting the body for defects, and each time I found some small areas that I was not satisfied with. Filled these with some fine filler and rubbed them down with wet'n'dry. before spraying again with primer. She really is starting to look good at last. The final colour will be MG Red all over, mudguards and all. I saw a couple of 8's finished like this in the North Island and although it's bucking the trend I think it looks good. North Otago All British Day 23-02-2019. The chosen Marque for our 2019 All British Day was Rover. A number of entrants came from the Dunedin Rover Club and so there were more Rovers than other British makes of vehicles. Vehicles assembled at the Historic Precinct, behind Scotts Brewery. After the processing of entries participants mingled and admired the vehicles entered. There were; Austin Allegro, Austin A 70, Austin Healey, Austin Princess; Daimler; Hillman Imp, Hillman Jeep; Jaguar; Land Rover; MG, MGB GT, MGC GT; Mini Clubman; Morris Marina, Morris Minor; Rolls Royce; Sunbeam; Triumph, Triumph Herald, Triumph Special; TVR; Vauxhall Viva, Vauxhall FD Victor; and a Triumph Motorcycle. Entrants had a choice of a long route that travelled through Tokarahi or a shorter one that passed through Windsor. The lunch stop was at Elderslie and after the presentation of Certificates and Commemorative Mugs to category winners, Peter Rodwell of Elderslie then told everyone about the history of Elderslie and interested entrants had the opportunity of a guided tour around the remains of the Homestead and the gardens. 2019 National Motor cycle Rally Report Five North Otago VCC members attended the rally in Blenheim on the 15th February boosting the entry of bikes to over 180. Saturday’s run around the back roads were great which included the Queen Charlotte Sound road from Havelock to Picton.
Field tests were reduced to only one because of the fire risk at the Omaka airport where bikes were on public display on Sunday.
Sunday evening meal with guest speaker Graeme Crosby was entertaining with good food. No prizes for our members. The after rally tour was Monday to Nelson to visit two garages of motorbikes. Tuesday to Seddon for a motorbike museum then to Yealands Winery. Wednesday had a bare trip from Picton to Torea bay then ride back to Blenheim. Quite unique. Thursday was from Blenhein to Hanmer Springs where it finished. All our bikes behaved very well with no problems. All credit to Marlborough branch for a very good rally which I thoroughly enjoyed. Good weather, good company, a very good rally.
