Adventures of an Old Restorer. I hope you all had a great Christmas break, I did manage to squeeze in a few hours on the Morris over the Christmas, it's good therapy for Christmas stress and to hide away from the family for a while! As I live in the Kakanui township I don't like to make too much noise at holiday time as neighbours are usually home so I keep any noise to working days. Having said that weekends can be rather noisy especially when my wife cuts the lawns, but I don't dare complain or she might throw the mower at me!! I have at last managed to finish taking off all the old paint on the body, using the angle grinder and lapped sanding discs. I've take it right down to the steel, then rubbed down with wet'n'dry and sprayed with etching primer. Two to three coats of primer rubbed down between each coat and she is starting to look like a Morris 8 again now that she is all one colour (even though it's very similar to Battleship grey at the moment). I could not find a petrol tank sender that was compatible with any of the gauges that I have. It seems the Ohm range must be the same on each. Eventually I found a set of both sender and gauge on Google from the UK. The sender has a float that goes up and down a shaft just below the fixing plate and the gauge fits the hole on the dash. The 200mm shaft was just the right length for diameter of the tank, although I had to mount it on the top of the tank. A blank now covers the old hole. I bought four motor cycle indicators a while back. The actual lenses are 2 ins square and they have a shaft about 2ins long with the securing nut on the bottom. I made up brackets on the front bumpers each side. When fitted they will be showing just above and a little back from the bumper. I was lucky enough to have all the Side Curtains with the car when I bought it. Miracles do happen and I found they are complete, although in a very sorry state. I carefully took out the steel frames, which were covered in rust. I cleaned them all off and coated them with rust preservative, which turns to the colour of black paint when dry. I've decided to remake them out of the roofing material after the roof has been done. I managed to find all four side curtain fasteners that screw onto the inside of the doors. I am going to have a go at doing the roof myself. Really! Do I hear you say? A quote of over $2000 plus material was my motivation. The sum of my skills in this department is a winter at the Waitaki Boys High School evening classes doing upholstery. I re-upholstered my Lazy Boy as the state of it was "lowering the Tone of the Living Room" according to my better half. It is still being used today by my son. I have acquired an interesting book called "Antique Auto Body Top Work". It is a must if you are going to try the same thing yourself. Hi I was wondering if you could help me. My Dad passed away last year and left his vintage car to my Brother and myself. It was pulled apart and stored in my Brothers shed and has remained there for the last 19 years. All the pieces were refurbished before it was put in the shed. My brother is not being helpful with trying to find it a new home so here am I trying. All I know is it is a Bean 1920 something??? I know it has a Dickie seat if that's any help. Would you be able to give me a rough idea of what it would be worth? I am not sure if it is worth me worrying my time with or not. Thank you very much for your help.
