Chairman’s Report Not a lot to report this month, insurance issues have been attended to and are settled. Roger, John, Johnnie & Lawrence have made a great job of the new mower come tool shed, the start of getting that area tidied. Tiger and the guys who work in the electrical shed will be pleased as that’s the next area to get a bit of a facelift. Skylights, new door etc. These guys just love what they are doing and have ownership very much appreciated by all. I understand from the Brayshaw Park committee meeting that the Farmer Machinery would like to fence the park. Hopefully over the next few days I can have a yarn with Chairman Ross Cooke and see where they are coming from. I explained at the meeting we should solve the problem with the new security cameras. Also on the agenda was the parks water and sewage problems with more and more societies wanting to be allocated areas of land on the park, something has to be done about these outstanding issues. Hopefully a small group can meet with council in the near future. A speedy recovery for those who are not feeling the best at this time. Regards to all, VINTAGE MOTORING, Kelly
From the Blokes in the Shed… September, despite Covid, has been very busy with extremely encouraging sales and some very good inventory having been donated including a trailer load from Nelson and another Nelson person has purchased a Morris 1000 motor and gearbox plus many Austin seven parts to create a special trials car. The shipping container has now been fitted with a side entrance glass door for ease of access and to provide some natural light, thank you Lawrence. The new storage shed now houses the club BBQ and the motorcycle sections trailer and the two Johns and Roger have almost completed the new mower shed. Red is sorting all our door handles into matched pairs/sets, indeed a mammoth task requiring much patience. Great work guys!.

Secretary’s Scribblings We are well into spring now with Daylight saving last weekend, so there are now more hours in a day to enjoy our glorious Marlborough weather!! I know this was a Model A Ford outing but a few weeks ago several Marlborough members made the trip to Murchison for a weekend of Model A motoring. Headed away on Friday morning stopping in St Arnaud for lunch, where it snowed. Luckily, nothing settled, but was it cold, especially in the Phaeton although we were well rugged up. Jim said he had to open the window in his truck as he was so warm! After lunch heading through the windy bits Alan and Jan Graham got a broken windscreen from a stone thrown from a truck coming the other way. We all helped to remove the broken glass, and they decided to return home, then in true vintage motoring arrived back in the modern that evening. The comments from them, in heading back down the Wairau Valley without a windscreen, in amongst rain and hail showers just shows how enthusiastic we are in driving our elderly cars. We had a great weekend in fabulous weather on the Coast. It was great to see John Pauling out in his newly restored A, his first major run with a few problems but he now has these sorted. We had our monthly Committee meeting a week early so we could get the Viewpoint out early this month. It was great to see a small report in this week’s Sun newspaper about the Daffodil Donation made to the Cancer Society a couple of weeks ago. Don Laing has been working on the installation of security Cameras around our area, and we now have the funding for this so it will be going ahead in the next month. The new oven and hobs have been installed in the kitchen and is working well. Thanks to Oliver Vercoe for his wood working skills helping with this. The mower shed is nearing completion so thanks to our building team for this. We now have an Eftpos machine up and running in the Clubrooms which is working out well, especially now that banks are in the process of doing away with cheques. Linda has organised the printing of a branch calendar for 2021, with pictures of some of our vehicles on it. These will be available for sale soon. Your committee has been looking at the insurance we pay on out assets. There was some confusion about the cover on our buildings, but I can confirm that the Marlborough District Council cover all our buildings as they are on council owned land. We have been using a broker from Christchurch for the contents and vehicles etc, but have now changed to a local broker, Asset Insurance5
Partners, in Blenheim. At least we can eyeball these guys and they also are very involved in sponsorship deals throughout the Marlborough Community. We have our Biennial Rally in a couple of weeks, so we just hope for a weekend of great weather for that. Have a great month of vintage motoring.

Less than 3 months to xmas (sorry I know you didn't want to know that) - where has the year gone !!! Not a lot to report for September, we had a visit from 22 of the Nelson VCC members on Wednesday the 9th for morning tea, about 76 for morning tea, a good turn out. Our natter & noggin was another enjoyable night and a movie which was very enjoyable. October we have our biennial rally on the 16th & 17th, then the Alvis club are having their AGM Sunday the 18th. A busy weekend. October Natter & Noggin is a BBQ at the Club Rooms, Friday 30th $10pp. Cheers, Dale

MOTORCYCLE REPORT This year our garage run clashed with Jim’s aviation history tour for the car members and I expected a drop off in our attendance knowing some or our riders would choose to go on the aviation tour. I am not sure how many we had on the garage ride as blokes and bikes appeared and disappeared at intervals. I counted 27 at one point. Excellent under the circumstances. If our numbers were added to the number on the aviation tour it would have to be close to record for attendance of branch members on a branch motoring day. A new member Owen Robinson was with us, welcome Owen, plus two prospective members and some likeminded motorcycle friends, Graeme and Johns T140’s set a high standard for the rest of us Triumph owners and Woody showed he wouldn’t have been out of place on the starting grid of Brooklands in the 20’s and 30’s having to push start three bikes no less over the course of the day. The garages and workshop’s we visited had an interesting variety of restored, under restoration, awaiting restoration and original it would be a shame to restore it, it looks more interesting like it is bikes. Barry had a motorcycle out on the day in the latter category, a AJS that had lost its paintwork many years ago and is now the colour of surface rust. A brilliant example or term ‘barn find’ and he has it ticking over sweetly. Two of our visits were to workshops which not only had interesting bikes in storage but also had motorcycle engines being rebuilt commercially. We are lucky to have the services of two very skilled members who do this sort of work within our ranks. First stop was at Georges to admire both his Tx Yamaha and 750 Honda four, both in immaculate condition and each now highly sort after. Next port of call was Roy ’s with a line-up of Guzzi’s, an AJS with lung issues resulting in the procurement of replacement parts giving Roy head issues and an interesting doorstop rolling around the garage floor. This particular doorstop held a speed record on Muriwai beach in the 1950’s and is destined to be back on the road in the future. After lunch it was off to Graham and Roses to view his bikes and some he is working on for others. The 1920’s Indian Scout had the interest of the local Indian owners while the dissected Trident engine and holed piston had others attention. Our last stop was for smoko at the club rooms where three more motorcycles had been added to our museum display. A big thanks to all those who made their garages or motorcycles available. The last couple of years there has been a drop off in the number attending our Christmas function which traditionally has involved a morning ride and a pot luck lunch with our wives and partners at the club rooms. We would like some suggestions as to what we could do differently and still make it possible for our families to join us for lunch. One idea was, still have a ride ending at the Woody where our families could join us for lunch. Suggestions please.

Targa VCC Time Trial UPDATE Hi VCC Branches, I'm very sorry to advise that this year's Targa VCC Time Trial is now unable to be held in October due to Covid-19 and the change of the NZ election date. Unfortunately Targa can't run an event which involves road closures on election day. Targa had also planned on using schools as service stops, which now may also be used as electoral polling stations. I'd very appreciate it if you would please forward this email to your branch membership database to ensure that everyone is informed of these changes. Also, for those VCC members who may be interested in joining us for a future time trial event, please complete the Targa survey below which will be most helpful in guiding future decisions.
