Chairman’s Report For those of you who were present at the AGM I think you will all agree a most satisfactory result for the year, and a pleasing aspect was two new people on your committee in Don Register and Cath Millar. I must thank all those who have helped make last year a satisfactory result particularly those who have retired from their respective rolls. You will see that your committee is looking at recognising those who have given exceptional service to our branch and rewarding them with a certificate in appreciation of long and dedicated service to the branch “Life Membership “. Life Membership only applies to this branch. I must explain you will still have to pay your subs because a large portion of them goes to head office. We welcome Jim McLean as our new Club Captain. He is new to this sort of motoring, so I ask that you give him your ideas and full support. There are still a few things that need to be done around our property area, and hopefully these will be taken care of over the next few months. I have an idea in mind for a chairman’s run for November, looking at a few nights away into the Canterbury area, dates etc will come with plenty of time for those who are interested so you can make bookings etc. Keep checking the coming events. Don’t forget daffodil day in August and polish up your vehicles for display, and we will also need a helping hand in some areas. We have asked all societies of Brayshaw Park to join us so let’s make it a great day for our local Cancer Society. Now I must go and finish putting the Chrysler back together for our trip to Glenlee up the Awatere valley. Vintage Motoring, Kelly 4

Club Captain’s Report It is now official, I have been appointed as your new club captain having taken over from Bob and by the time you read this the Awatere Valley run to Glenlee Station will have been and gone (weather gods willing) and should be successful. To be successful in this role I need to organize runs and events for the benefit of you as members of this very healthy Marlborough Branch (which can be seen by the turn out on Wednesday mornings), what I need from members are suggestions of where and what you would like me to organize. July is the snow run to Rotoiti on July 14th please note that admission is now by ticket which needs to be purchased prior. I need to find somewhere for a run in August and September, so please give me a call. Also would anyone be interested in a mid week short run possibly after our usual Wednesday morning get together? Secretary’s Scribblings Well here we are at the start of winter, and boy hasn’t mother Nature thrown it at us over the past week, with snow not far away last weekend and today wet and cold. At the AGM in May we had a few changes to the committee and other positions within the Branch. Jim Mclean is our new Club Captain, and if you don’t know him, I am sure you will learn more about him in the coming months. Thanks to Bob O’Malley for the great job he has done over the past 4 years, and hasn’t he taken us to some great places in Marlborough. Also, on the committee are Don Register and Catherine Millar, welcome to these folks. In the Branch Appointments we have a few changes. The Model A Custodian is now Kevin Millar, the Model A custodian is Bob O’Malley and the Mini custodian is Bruce Rumble. If any branch member wants to take any of these vehicles on our runs, please see the custodian of each vehicle and they will get you to fill out the required paperwork.
At the AGM, four couples were awarded Honorary Life membership of the Branch for long and outstanding service to the Branch. These are Tony and Lorraine Pine, Rae and Lyn Fairweather, Barry and Margaret Wilson and Trevor and Doreen Harris. Congratulations to these members on a job well done, and some of you are still very active in our branch. From our Committee meeting on Wednesday: Jim outlined the run up the Awatere Valley this Sunday. He asked if any member had suggestions as to places to go for a run once a month then please let him know. The Snow Run to St Arnaud is on 14th July so please get your names in and money paid by 3rd July. Meal cost is $22 for a 3-course lunch. Tickets 6
will be issued prior to the run and no money will change hands at the door. No ticket, no lunch. Around the grounds the committee is looking at purchasing two 6 metre containers for the storage of the BBQ trailer and Motorcycle trailer. A suggestion has been made that they go where the Jeffreys truck now is, and a roof over them with a gap between so the truck can be stored undercover. New rules for storage of members vehicles have been updated. They will be displayed in the Viewpoint and in the clubrooms. Every member has the right to have their vehicle in the Museum, for a maximum period of 3 months. The annual Daffodil Day is only just over 3 months away, and this year will involve all the Brayshaw Park societies who want to be involved. There will be the need for help with this closer to the time. Sharon and I are off tomorrow to head to Fordland for a 6 day stint on the Affinity boat down there for a bit of fishing and Rand R. we hope the weather is kind to us!

Update from Your Kitchen Custodian Brrrrrrrrrrr winter has arrived and its only a couple of weeks to the shortest day. Were has the last six months gone? Well not much has happened in the kitchen over the last month, our Mothers Day outing was another enjoyable outing. The AGM has been and then it was natter & noggin on Friday the 31st, this was combined with the night trial, not many turned out as it was a wet miserable night, but the soup & buns when we got back to the club rooms was good. From the Blokes in the Shed… What a great branch we have. A.G.M. behind us, all positions filled without one arm broken. The Shed team remains as is and things cruising along at a steady pace, nothing like a rare nasty rainy old day to keep the blokes in the shed tidying and sorting, changing tyres etc. John Larcombe and Don Jamieson have been quietly dismantling the Austin Cambridge around the side of the shed. They no sooner had the engine out and put it in the shed when a happy purchaser grabbed it with delight and left the shed boys with a good return for their efforts, thus far. Thanks John and Don. A phone call from Nelson for help resulted in a quick trip from over the hill, suitable parts found, deal done, including two tyres. Pleasure all round. Now about the subject tyres. We do not want tyres, even if they are on desirable wheels. Recently six tyres on wheels were left at the shed by anonymous donor. Every tyre was stuffed, all but one wheel went in the scrap skip. Tyres cost us to dispose of. So please no tyres. That's my Harrumph for the month. Thanks you blokes, for all your willing efforts for our great branch. Cheers “The Major”

2019 ‘Mud Plug’ Trials Season We have heard rumours that another local Trials car is in the process of being built at the moment. The said car is basically a Vanguard, affectionately known as the ‘Mudguard’ or ‘Mrs Ferguson”. According to the rumours, Chris and Mac have be searching the internet, and indeed the entire world , for a design for the body. Well, here is a suggestion that is not only pleasing to the eye, it also has many practical benefits. All the best for a successful build. Your fellow Mud Trialler’s ideas Dept.
Thanks Team! Mrs. Ferguson Update... While the final body shape is still largely unknown, the build itself has moved along considerably and we intended to give her a run at Reefton on Sunday 16th June. All was looking good until a water leak appeared and an inability to run for a continuous period with a fuel issue put paid to that plan. The goal was always to be competing in our local trial on 18th August, so there’s time to iron the issues out. The project was delayed with Mac’s hip op last year putting paid to all heavy lifting work, but as I type this he’s outside welding the chassis mounts and frame for the floor and the seats, which were donated to us by a local fellow trialler—much better than the cushion we had planned to use! How much different she looks than she does today is anyone's’ guess, but so long as we have ‘go’ and ‘whoa’ we’re in business theres nothing in the rules about having to have a body on the chassis! Marlborough Vintage Car Club Vehicle Storage in Branch Museum Storage is offered for vehicles that fall within the VCC of NZ guidelines. Vehicles are stored at Owners risk and Marlborough Branch accepts no liability for loss or damage. The intention of the Committee is that : •All members must have equal opportunity to store or display their vehicle. •The display is for a maximum period of 3 months. •The vehicles can be accommodated at short notice. •The museum can be cleared for other activities when necessary. •The Custodians have the right to manoeuvre vehicles within the buildings or
grounds if necessary. •Vehicles to be presented in a clean and tidy condition.
•Vehicle batteries and fuel will be isolated
To enable these intentions to be fulfilled all persons storing vehicles should have alternative storage available to fall back on should they be called upon to remove their vehicle at short notice in order to benefit another member who urgently needs storage, or to ensure that the display remains of interest to the Public. 2019 Night Trial We set off from home about 5pm for the club rooms. I looked at the weather report and no rain was forecast until 8pm, so OK to take the vintage out. (My hopes were dashed as it was raining when we left on the run.) On arrival at the club rooms we were handed our instructions for the run and left in our own time. We took a torch and a flashlight, but these were eclipsed by Don Laing’s torch. I was amazed/impressed with it. What a beauty!!! I think it must have come from Jacques Cousteau’s film archives!!! Although, thinking about it, he probably needed it with lights on Model A’s being virtually non-existent. The run was not really an enjoyable driving experience due to the rain, but was a good well planned run. Well done to the organisers! The run was followed by a “Soup and Bun” meal followed by a choice of either quince or apple crumble with ice cream and cream. Yum! Thank you to the ladies in the kitchen for another great meal.
The birthday girl (Linda) was presented with a miniature birthday cup cake An enjoyable run and meal and of course great company. I had a walk around the museum and the painted floor looked great. Wonder how much it cost?

MOTORCYCLE NEWS Eleven bikes made use of what going by present weather standards may have been one of the last of the fine weekends to ride to Canvastown. Once again, we had a good cross section of bikes ranging from 250cc Japanese through to the superbikes of the 1960’s and 70’s with a Norton Commando and BSA Rocket three and Triumph Trident among the bikes present. First time out with us on a run were Dexter on his Kawasaki and Kelvin who has purchased a Triumph Trident from a local member, welcome to them. The run out to Canvastown was uneventful with all arriving in time for lunch and a bit of tyre kicking. Barry has done a makeover on one of his Commando’s with a new frame and a cosmetic upgrade while in anticipation of a longer run to Canvastown, Ryan added a period bikini fairing to the Honda, there is some doubt whether this improved top end speed or miles per gallon, but the bike does look a little sportier if nothing else. Everyone had a good catch up and headed home shortly after lunch, on the way home a rider on a modern Harley passed me just before Okaramio, I don’t mind being passed, even by Harley’s but the fact that the dog perched on the petrol tank had the audacity to have a bark up as it went passed my right ear did catch me by surprise, I can only hope the cold wind had an effect on its bladder similar to what it’s barking nearly had on mine. Thanks to those that went on the run and to Paul for providing the back up. Some of you may have seen a recent listing on trade me that could be used as a template for any future vintage bike listing. After a description of make, model etc the owner put forward his views on the 20
pros and cons of his bike, it went as follows: The suicide shift (tank gear change) is a mongrel to use. The brakes work, they will stop you eventually, I would advise against relying on them under fire. This is a 250cc side valve it will eventually out run its own shadow probably in the late afternoon. When you ride this bike things will fall off, it will probably also stop, don’t worry it is simple to fix
