Chairman’s Report Well, back to our monthly meetings. Your committee has beaten the gun and have made the decision to open up for our Wednesday morning tea on the 17th June. We have also agreed to host our Natter and Noggin’ on the 26th June (see Dales report), this will be a butterfish meal. This will be limited to the first 40 people so please put your name on the list. The fish has to be ordered. Our Branch AGM is to be held at our club rooms on the 28th June from 1pm3pm, please make an effort to attend as it is important for you to hear how our branch is doing, but also to elect in your next committee and have your say. See ya there. Currently your committee is looking at our prize giving dinner being held on the 9th August, this needs to be finalised re cost etc, then next on the list is the National AGM 14-15th August. At this point we’ve booked the 23rd August for Daffodil Day, this event has been cancelled by the National Executive, but we think it should go ahead. We may not make much money for the Cancer Society but we all agree it is worth the effort. This will be our usual car show on Patchetts Green. Finally, we are talking to Nelson Branch regarding our snow run. We are looking at 2 or 3 other plans, maybe meeting at Pelorus Bridge and take our own lunches as the. We all feel the price was getting out of hand. The new shed floor has been put down, but I understand it is going to be about another 2 to 3 weeks before they get back to it. Obituary McCALLUM, Murray James (Muzz):

Passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by family, at Wairau Hospital, Sat, May 9, 2020, aged 66. A private service has taken place with family. Murray had been a Branch member in excess of twenty years. Murray & Crystene with their Armstrong Siddeley have been regular supporters of our fund raising activities attending Heritage Day & Daffodil Day’s. On the verge of retirement it is possible we may have had the pleasure of Murray’s company more often but sadly it was not to be. Our condolences go to Crystene, Alister & Scott.

Club Captain’s Report Things are finally starting to get back to normal and we as a club have to the best of my knowledge all escaped the pandemic unscathed, looking at it from a scientific viewpoint because the country has not had any community infections for four weeks now this thing is beaten so long as we do not let it back across our borders. To those members who braved the cold at Marfells beach on Sunday, good on you. I unfortunately was away in the deep south and could not attend. We had our first post Covid committee meeting last Wednesday and thought it was time to move things along. What I would like to see is members gather around a warming fire on the Wairau River bed off the end of Selmes Road for a lunch next Thursday say at 1300hrs, just to celebrate that we have got past this extraordinary period in NZ, in good health and basically to raise a finger to the virus and get back to what we do as a vintage motor car and motorcycle club. Any one interested call me on 021 0257 3069 or meet at the clubrooms at 1230hrs. on Thursday. Bring your own. Further down the track we have a combined winter run with the Nelson club on the 12 July at the DOC Pelorus camp area this is instead of the snow run to St Arnaud as that venue had sort of run its course as well as cost and difficulties setting up. See in next month’s newsletter for times. I have not forgotten the Middlehurst run which was meant to go on the 28th March and Covid got in the way. I will reschedule it for later in the year as it can be a bit cold at this time of year. Those who have paid for it your money is safe with David, our treasurer.

Secretary’s Scribblings Well our Branch of the Vintage Car Club is slowly getting back to normal with the Covid 19 lockdown levels reducing over time allowing us to have more interaction with others. At our first face-to-face Committee meeting on Wednesday, since March, the Committee has decided to open the Clubrooms for Morning Smokos on the 17th June from 10 am. When you come into the Redman room, please sign your name in the register so if needs be, we can keep a track of who is in attendance. If you are at all unwell, or do not feel confident in meeting with others, please do not feel obliged to attend as it will get easier over time.

There has been quite a lot happening within the club over lockdown, especially since Level 3 and 2. The chaps in the parts and workshops have been doing their thing with spare parts sales carrying on and a good amount of sales have happened. The Branch is in great heart financially even though the accounts kept coming during the lull in activities. With banks and some businesses deciding they are not going to be accepting Cheques for payment, the Branch needs to move with the times and also request members that for any payments need to be by Cash or internet banking in the future. The Concrete floor slab has been put down by the builders for the new shed and within a few weeks the shed will be erected. Katherine and Kevin along with two Johns have been looking after the gardens and mowing the lawns, so many thanks go to them for this great service. There are branches which were dropped from the trees down the bank below where the new shed is going that needs to be tidied up, so hopefully a merry band of helpers will get onto this sooner rather than later. If you are visiting in the future, you will notice some of the Rhodos have been shifted from under the trees as they are a bit sick. Some of these will be put in the garden around Harris Glade, and other areas around our buildings. It was decided that as soon as Bill has a tidy up and dust, the Museum will be opened to the public. Noggin and Natter will be on Friday 26th, with a Fish meal, $20 per head, limited to 40 people. Please get your names in as soon as possible. If you cannot make it to the clubrooms, phone one of the committee. The Snow Run, in conjunction with Nelson branch will be in mid-July with a different format this year, in going to a different venue and a BYO lunch. Jim is in contact with the Nelson Club Captain to sort this out. The Mid-winter Dinner and Prize giving will be on the 9th August this year. Also, this will be the presentation of a 50-year membership and badge to one of our members.

Daffodil Day.

We have decided to continue with Daffodil Day, even though the National VCC has cancelled this yearâ€™s event. Sunday 23 August 2020 will be the day and Kelly is to be the contact person for this. We will run a similar event as in the past with a vehicle show.

Biennial Rally

The Biennial rally which Marlborough are organising this year will be held on the weekend of 16th to 18th October.

Vintage Viewpoint.

The Committee discussed the Vintage Viewpoint, and the emailing of this over the Lockdown. The consensus was that this was a great format to use, and so we will be continuing this in the future. There are some members who have had this delivered as a hard copy as they have not got email. Others who want a hard copy need to let me know. BUT we have decided that there will be a charge for this service. As the costs of this service are increasing with the cost of printing and stamps for mail delivery, there will be a charge of $25 per year if you want a hard copy.

The Branch AGM will be on Sunday 28th June at 1.30pm in the Clubrooms. If you would like to be nominated or nominate someone for the committee, please do so as it is healthy to have an election. Nomination forms were included with last month’s Vintage Viewpoint.

The Committee discussed the outstanding service that our Editor Chris de Wagt has given the Branch not only over the Lockdown but for many years in the position. During lockdown, Chris went above and beyond to get the magazine out to us all, so we were able to keep up with the function of our Club. I would formally like to voice a vote of thanks to Chris for her service over this time. That is it for this month. Kitchen Custodian Hello to everyone, I hope you have all got thru the lockdown okay and are now enjoying a bit of freedom. We, the committee, have decided to come out of hibernation and start our Wednesday morning teas again. The oven will be turned on for scones on Wednesday 17th June. If you are feeling like a good natter come and join us we look forward to seeing you all and hearing your stories of your time in lockdown. On Friday the 26th will be our first post Covid Natter & Nogginâ€™ night. This is a Fish night and is $20 pp. This is limited it to the first 40 people that put their names down. Update from Your Museum Custodian Hi to you all, I hope you have all been busy during the lockdown and sorted out your sheds and done all those jobs that have been put to the side can't say I have done everything but I did do some jobs that have been hanging around for awhile. We have been up to the museum and dusted off the 10 weeks of dust that had settled on the cars and we are now ready to open up. The museum is going to be open again on Sunday afternoons from the 14th June and Wednesday afternoons from the 17th June. MOTORCYCLE REPORT

A get well soon to Paul Leitch who has recently spent time in hospital. By the time you receive this newsletter lockdown level two will hopefully be over. Take the time to read the chairmanâ€™s, club captainâ€™s and secretaries notes for guidance on when the various branch activities will resume normality. Because our motorcycle section normally have our lunch at a licensed eating house rather than a picnic type lunch, we may still be restrained by personal distancing which may influence our activities and which establishments can cater for us, however we are putting out a calendar of events for our rides starting on June 21st. This will involve a short afternoon run returning to the clubrooms for smoko. The branch AGM is coming up on the 28th June, support it if you can.

‘OLD RACE CAR’ REGISTER The recent display and demonstration of Old Race Cars at this years’ Skope Race Meeting in February at Ruapuna was a big success and both the Canterbury Car Club and the Skope Committee have already indicated that they wish it to be repeated at next years’ event – bigger and better and we already have another three interesting cars lined-up. To help us with this project, the Banks Peninsular Branch of the VCC, wish to compile a free register of all such vehicles whatever their state of repair, restoration or condition, so that these ‘Old Race Cars’ are never lost or lose their identity. This documented information may also help owners to obtain history, knowledge and even valuable parts required to enable these race-cars to once more be active. It was very apparent from many enthusiasts and spectators at Februarys’ event that these old race cars create huge interest and are a vital part of the old car movement which needs to be resurrected and encouraged. So if you missed this years’ display, have such a car or know of some-one who has, please drop an email with the details to either of the contacts below and we will be pleased to include on the register. Prince Charles was driving around his Mother’s Estate when he accidentally ran over her favorite dog, a Corgi, crushing it to a pulp. He got out of his Range Rover and sat down on the grass totally distraught. The whole world was against him and now his Mother, The Queen would go ballistic. Suddenly he noticed a Lamp half-buried in the ground. He dug it up, polished it and immediately a Genie appeared. "You have freed me from thousands of years of imprisonment, " said the Genie" .. As a reward I shall grant you just One Wish." "Well, " said the Prince, "I have all the material things I need, but let me show you this Dog." They walked over to the splattered remains of the Dog. "Do you think you could bring this Dog back to Life for me..?" the Prince asked. The Genie carefully looked at the remains and shook his head. "This Dog's Body is too far gone for even me to bring it back to Life. Is there something else you would like..?" The Prince thought for a minute, reached into his pocket and pulled out Two Photos. "I was married to this beautiful woman called Diana, " said Prince Charles, showing the Genie the first photo. "But now I love this woman called Camilla, " and he showed the Genie the second photo. "You see Camilla isn’t beautiful at all, so do you think you can make Camilla as beautiful as Diana..?" OYSTERS.......... Contributed by Mac McKercher Paddy was a youthful and hardworking Irishman at a Coastal village in Ireland. Daily he would pole a heavy old punt out to sea then work a heavy iron grapple to bring up the sand oysters which he sold to the local ice works. He was a man of regular habits he always arrived home each day at a certain time. Sadly, Paddy did not realise the heavy grappling was taking a toll on a faulty heart. One day he failed to come home, so his wife contacted the Police to investigate him being missing. They rowed out and found Paddy dead in the punt; beside him a huge grapple full of oysters he'd tried to hoist aboard. Headlines next day in the 'Irish Times Newspaper said........................ OYSTERS KILPATRICK !!!! 'Please don't laugh, it only encourages them'
