Chairman’s Report Hi Team, I hope in this cold wet month of July you are all keeping warm and well. Another month gone and who knows where. The last ‘noggin ‘n’ natter’ was a great night had by all who attended. Casserole night and what a feast it was, with some 12 different dishes plus vegies, breads, other special dishes and all followed up with dessert. I’m sure no-one went home hungry. Thank you to all those wonderful chefs who provided the goodies. If you haven’t attended one of these evenings, give it a go, good fun, good fellowship and good food. We had a great bus trip Sunday 19th June, on a beautiful day. The tour travelling to various areas down the east coast. The coach was generously supplied by Gary Wright of Marlborough Road Trips for a very minimal cost. The expert driver our own club member Allan Graham and our compere the very knowledgeable Ron Hebberd. We learnt a lot, we viewed a lot, we laughed a lot, we ate well and all arrived home safely after enjoying a great day out. Thanks to all who arranged and participated to make this a great day out. During the week the FORD team of Kevin Miller, Wayne Frew, Chris Bird and myself spent about three days carrying out some maintenance on Chris ’s V8 fuel tank, cleaning and some tank repairs, fuel line repairs and fitted a higher ratio diff (to make it go faster, as we all know, Chris can never go fast enough in his cars). This was a good social event with several tea and lunch breaks and I can report the car is now improved and running well. I have just returned from the Snow Run, (no snow of course) but meeting up with members of the Nelson branch at Rai Valley. We had use of the Carluke Hall and a visit to the Historic Turner Settlers Cottage which was built in 1881. There is a lot of history and a (Love Story) attached to this building and a family movie from the 60/70s showing a re enactment of the setters arriving through the bush in Rai, breaking in the land and building their lives there. We had a history lesson arranged, however sickness prevented this taking place. Most members however took the short walk down the road to view the cottage, it’s contents on display and read the history. Many thanks to Catherine for organising the outing and Diane and Kevin Payton for having the hall open, welcoming for us and setting out the photo history and book information table. Rai Valley is an area steeped in much industrial, forestry and farming history. After our lunch we joined clubs in a kids game of ‘Turkey’ which gave us all a good laugh. Congratulations to the winner Margy Wilson. Well another week looming, so will see you all on Wednesday club morning. Keep well, keep happy,
