Chairman’s Report Hi Team, I have just returned from Brayshaw park open day ,or what has been for many years our Heritage / Waitangi Day celebration ,when all the park clubs and societies open up to the public. This event has over the years been extremely well supported by the public and the vehicle and machinery displays put on by the clubs have drawn the crowds.

Over the last few days the top of the south have experienced a huge downpour of rain which this year along with covid restrictions, has spoilt our day. However many societies in the park opened, just not with the usual displays and there was a steady flow of parents and children passing through . Thanks to the team keeping the museum open and the kettle and snacks available. A big ‘Welcome back’ to Margaret Holdaway after her unexpected stay in hospital, great to see you visiting the VCC this afternoon and looking well again. These ever changing Covid rules have curtailed our outings and events so we’ve had another quiet month, however we did enjoy good motoring , BBQ, and a lovely day last Sunday to the Barnes batch at Anakiwa, around 55 people and 20 cars attending, thankyou Pat and Ian for your generous hospitality. Wednesday morning tea/ meeting numbers appear slightly down but still well attended, just remember please, show your vax pass, sign in and mask up, for the safety of us all. Cheers Rob

Reminder Your Committee decided that Vaccine Certificates will be required to enter the Redman Room from Mon 3th December. This means that if you are not vaccinated you cannot enter this area of the Clubrooms. Please be aware that you should also either sign in by using the App on your phone, or on the paper copy at the rooms. Please wear your mask until signed in. Club Captain’s Report Well, one month down, where did that go ? During January we had an outing for the ladies to view Shirley Hawtins Christmas decorations which a small group found most enjoyable. Our run to Anakiwa for a BBQ at Barnes bach was extremely well supported and a lovely day was had by all. Thanks to Ian and Pat for this venue. Our next outing is our mid-week lunch on the 22nd February at Dodson Street, names for that at the Clubrooms or give me a ring if you wish to come along.

Due to Covid the Classic and Antique Boats, Lake Rotoiti is cancelled.

Secretary’s Scribblings Our monthly Committee meeting was held last Wednesday. Thanks to those members who are following the Covid rules for access to the Redman room. As you will be all aware, members need to be vaccinated and show your Vaccination Pass for access to the room. Great to see the good turnout to the annual BBQ at Barnes at Anakiwa. Also Trevor tells us the motorcycle group have had good turnouts at their monthly runs.

The Park open day is Waitangi Day. With a lot of rain in the Sounds I did not take part this year, but hope the event went well. We are looking at replacing our lawnmower with a new model, as the present one is starting to cause a few problems. Watch this space. We had a discussion about the Morris 8 car. The decision was made to look at selling this vehicle as it will an ongoing liability to the Branch. If anyone would be interested, please let one of the committee know. There was a video presentation at the Smoko, and the last Noggin and Natter about the proposed logo change. Members with email have had a copy of this from National Office. After showing this the group was asked for a show of hands about the change. This was 50/50, but when a change of name was discussed 70% were in favour of this option. A comment was made that we need to look at a complete rebranding, not just the logo, as Vintage in the name only caters for a certain age of vehicles.

Anyone else with comments, please let us know, as the result of this needs to be taken to the Executive Meeting to be voted on in March. We currently have 45 members who haven’t paid their subscription. If you haven’t paid, please do so ASAP as the Branch part of $35 keeps the branch ticking over for the year. We discussed this, and a comment was there is no incentive to pay early now as the early payment discount has been removed, and from the Management committee that you do not have to pay until the March Executive meeting is not helpful. You can pay to the branch with our Eftpos machine, or preferably direct to National Office as your subscription notice states. Have a great month of Heritage Motoring. Secretary - Chris Bird

Update from Your Kitchen

Custodian

Not much to report in the kitchen for the first month of the year. Our natter & noggin night was again another successful Pot Luck meal and slides that Chris showed along with the Logo presentation was interesting. February is a quite month also. Natter & Noggin night will be Friday the 25th and this will be a 2 course meal at $15.00 pp. Stay safe and keep well. Cheers Dale.

BRAYSHAW PARK WORKING PARTY 19 MARCH @ 08:30am A working party is being organised by Brayshaw Heritage Park Administrators to clear & remodel the Brayshaw Park garden adjacent to the Caretaker's Cottage & the telephone kiosk on 19 March 2022 starting at 08:30am for which volunteers would be appreciated. The intent is to clear the garden completely and arrange a low maintenance area consisting of weed mat overlaid with crushed gravel and several garden beds for planting native flowering trees to encourage native wildlife. Picnic tables & seating will also be incorporated for the public. Volunteers with suitable garden hand tools (shovels, rakes, hoes, mattocks, axes, saws etc) as well as chainsaws would be useful. An excavator and truck / trailer are being arranged. It is envisaged that the garden will be completely cleared with this working party to enable design arrangement to be finalised and reinstatement to proceed. Motorcycle Report Another excellent Marlborough day and another excellent turn out, twenty-seven members and friends. Same as last month but not all the same faces or machines.

Nineteen on motorcycles including Mindy riding pillion behind Steve. One VCC eligible car, one modern car, a couple of supporters and Roger M and self in the back up. Hondas seemed to be in abundance again ranging from 750 cc to 400cc, twins ’ singles and Colins four, Zig and Darryl supplied the American muscle with a Harley Knucklehead and Indian and with a couple of Vincent’s added to the mix as well it was a good spread of years and makes. A trouble -free ride around Queen Charlotte Drive now tar sealed all the way but still with numerous traffic lights at damaged areas. It may be years before the damage is all repaired. Good company, good tucker, good motorcycles to look at, good riding back via Havelock in the afternoon, a bit more oil on the boots to keep them watertight (winter is coming) what more could anyone ask. A big thanks to Roger for driving the back up.
