EVENTS : This Month…. 18th April: A visit to Geoff and Liz Evans Stronvar property at the head of the Waihopai Valley. Please bring your own lunch, and could we have a list of names going prior to the day. 10 am at the Clubrooms. 17th - 18th April: Motorcyclists Overnight stay in Kaikoura The plan is to meet at the park with a l eaving time of 10.00 from the branch rooms and stop for lunch at Kekerengu, before carrying onto Kaikoura for an evening meal etc, back home Sunday. 30th April: Natter & Noggin’ Pot Luck DESSERT night. There will be a snack / entree supplied.

Chairman’s Report Good to see our Model A members enjoying their tour around the Gisborne area, the report I have is they’re having a lot of fun and that’s what it’s all about. It is good to see Carroll Wiblin, Dave Kemp and Lynn Millard up and about and enjoying everyone’s company. They tell me that the VCC bed at the hospital doesn’t need a new mattress. It is with regret that we hear and record the passing of one of our colourful characters Ted Maher, our thoughts are with Kath and her family. As most of you are aware, we are taking out two trees out of the line on Patchets Green. It is going to cost; but it has to be done. We are also looking at taking the rest out sometime in the future as we are concerned that they are getting to big. They have the reputation of dropping branches. We view this as dangerous because someone could get seriously hurt or they could damage any cars parked under or near them. The Farm Machinery guys have offered to trim the sides of these trees, but as mentioned the committee feel they are better out, gone. We are in the process of getting a price for taking the lot out. The plan is to replace with a more suitable planting. Reminder to you all, our AGM is on the 30th May, don’t forget to get your nomination (s) in. If you would like to help run your club, speak to any of the current committee. We would like to have all nominations with the Secretary by the 28th of April so as to have names circulated in the May Vintage Viewpoint. Janice and I hope this report finds you all in good health. Club Captain’s Report Last month saw the run up to Middlehurst Station finally ticked off after over a year with the covid issue messing it up. It was revamped to a day trip and the weather gods cooperated giving the ten or so vehicles and their people an enjoyable run though the road gave the suspension a good workout and many thanks to our two speakers, Keith van Asche who spoke about the history of the area an Bev Black who has spent all of her adult life in the Awatere for giving us an insight into station life from a women’s perspective. Many thanks to both of you. The next day was the event organized by Pat Pascoe for the hospice at the racecourse where he had our vintage and veterans displayed.
On a personal note, I have been involved in planning and preparing to subdivide our section and build a new house which will be more in tune with our stage of life. It is not a simple task. It has caused a lot of stress and required a lot of mental energy: a bit like something that makes a lot of noise and frustration with damn all to show for it. Unfortunately, it won’t be over for a while yet, but we are getting there. I apologise if I have appeared distracted and not attended to club duties and it is for this reason I would ask you to look for a new Club Captain at the AGM in May as I feel I wont have the time or energy to carry on with this until the house is done, which is months away yet. Update from Your Kitchen Custodian Hi Everyone, Daylight saving has come to an end, so winter must be just around the corner. We have had a few cold days but a nice lot of rain, this will help the weeds and grass grow. Not much to report from the kitchen this month We supplied afternoon tea for seventy-five top of the south Fire Brigade members who had a reunion in Blenheim and the branch Wednesday mornings are still ticking along nicely. Our Natter & noggin was a quiet night with a number of members away, but enjoyed by those that were there. Natter & Noggin’ night this month is a Pot Luck Dessert, but there will be a snack/entree before hand. Cheers from Dale and all the helpers in the kitchen

Welcome New Members’ Kelvin Cameron, Picton. John Newman, Blenheim Welcome to the Marlborough Branch of the VCC. We hope to see you out on our outings, or to a Wednesday morning Smoko, each Wednesday at 10am.
From the Blokes in the Shed… Sales this past month have been steady with a varied selection of parts finding new homes. The team welcomes Earl back from his Southern journeys and meanwhile Red is steadfastly adhering to the sorting of window and door handles into matching sets. George is using his expertise to catalogue the n.o.s bearings and seals and likewise Gary is doing brake linings and shoes. Roger gets quietly on shifting mountains of parts to dedicated areas. Dave, from the electrical shed is missing in action having had a spell in the infirmary, get well soon Dave, your input is invaluable. The building team have virtually completed the renovations to the electrical shed which is now impressive and an asset to the club and park. Externally the new door, window, veranda (and cat door) have now been painted or stained. The resident auto electricians are a true asset to our club.

MOTORCYCLE REPORT The motorcycle stinker news of the month was the cancellation of the National Motorcycle rally ten days before the event. While a big disappointment to all the entrants who had been almost ready to go it would have been devasting for the organisers to see two years of hard work, stress and financial commitment go down the gurgler. They have our sympathy. B----r the virus. Fortunately, others have managed to get a few miles in, Viv and Barry attended the National Norton owners rally managing to clock up an impressive 1600 miles all up, Roy got to the Moto Guzzi rally at Hamner and has the Vincent rally coming up, Zig and Colin hooked up with the Christchurch contingent that were heading to the National and did a South Island tiki tour instead for a week. Knowing some of our section members were circulating the South Island I pessimistically expected a low turnout for our ride to Havelock, call me doubting Thomas, we had a very good turnout including some machines we had not seen out before. Graham was on a very nice BSA Golden Flash which has been tucked away, rego on hold for over a decade. Former member, Chris joined us on an equally nice and rare BSA Thunderbolt. Triumph guru Phil has succumbed to the dark side and was on his recently acquired Honda Four for its first local outing. With Phil on his Honda and Glenn giving the Ariel a run, for the first time in this old bloke’s memory BSA’S outnumbered Triumphs. To add some interest and variety Kim rolled up on his new 2005 BMW 1200. He would have ridden his Triumph but while he was not at home one of the Canterbury tourists borrowed some bits off it when his own bike broke down. A great camaraderie and trust exists within the club’s motorcycle members. There is no doubt at all Kim’s bits will be returned. Another positive from the Havelock run was to have Ron and Shirley back with us after a long absence owing to Ron’s heart pump constantly slipping it’s timing and reducing him to a very low gear. A recent new member, Kelvin Cameron, has listed Triumph motorcycles on his application, we look forward to having him with us.

Vero International Festival of Motoring Most of you will know that the Vero Festival of Historic Motoring will now be held in 2022. The dates are Jan 16 to 21st 2022 The organising Committee has sent out to all VCC members by email a request for your expression of interest. . PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RESPOND to this if you are considering going. Events like this have significant budgets to manage and some of you will recall the last International Rally suffered significant losses. Whatever your view on that result, learnings have been taken and you will have read in the latest Beaded Wheels that the Management Committee will NOT accept the event running at a loss. To that effect they are looking for some surety that entrant numbers will be sufficient to make the event viable. It will not be a firm commitment and I do urge you to respond. If there is insufficient interest, there is a possibility the event won’t go ahead. This is an event not to miss, a shorter period than previous International Rallies, in an area with some great motoring and the time of year hopefully means plenty of sunshine. So, get your mates together, decide what vehicle you’re taking and plan to be there.

VCC Trials vehicle aka Mrs. Fergusson As some of you are aware Mrs Fergy was a Vanguard ute presented to the shed for dismantling. It was subsequently obtained by Chris and Mac and modified to enter into the regional VVC Trials competitions. Following 2 years of competitive life or make her available to someone else to provide her a new future either in Trials or some another life.
Should nobody have a need for her, any suitable parts Mac and Chris want will be removed and everything else will be returned to the Shed Boys to convert into suitable spares for sale. Specifications: 1958 Vanguard Ute, Engine: 4 Cyl 2.0 lt. Goes really well, new water pump, new oil filter fitted, fuel pump has had a new kit installed, Manual gearbox.
