Chairman’s Report Hi VCC team, Nearly the end of another club year with AGM not far away. The current committee has managed the club affairs well over the past year. Cast your eyes around the grounds, the buildings.in the museum and you will see everything is looking pretty tidy, maintained and in good shape. Our club captain has organised some great outings, club runs, visits for us and our secretary and treasurer have kept the paperwork in order and funds in the bank or spent on worthwhile projects or maintenance to the benefit of us all. The Morris 8, donated to us by Allan Paul some years back, has been sold and a new lawn mower purchased for the grounds team. Our previous mower; after a good tidy-up, a full service and minor steering repair is for sale. The mower is in a excellant condition and has with low hours. If you know of anyone looking for a John Deere side delivery, ride on mower please contact me. We are asking $5k ono which is approx. $3 to $3.5k less than a new one. Finally; Voting for the AGM is open now. As I said above the current committee has operated well; however (like councils or governments) that is no reason for you as members not to nominate another member or stand yourself. “ Have a go”, if you think there is need for a change or fresh blood. Being a committee member is NOT an onerous task, you do find yourself doing jobs that, haven’t been done but need doing and been overlooked, or you see new projects established and there is a monthly meeting to attend,,,,,,,, However it is also a rewarding job. You get to know your fellow members better and work alongside them on various tasks, whether that be sitting around the committee table or chopping a tree up. So let me encourage you to find a voting form, get a nomination in and “ have a go” all positions on the committee are open for re-election. Thanks for your support and club input. Cheers Rob

Club Captain’s Report Members enjoyed a most interesting afternoon at Pinoli Pine Nut farm/factory. Our ANZAC Day run seemed to be popular with a good turnout of members. The biscuit baking competition had lots of entries with Rob Galloway and Kevin Jackson taking out the prizes. Members supported the Omaka – Mosquito start-up day by displaying their cars. This was a wonderful day. The visit to Rodin Cars in the Lyford Valley was enjoyed by the members that attended and as asked by Rodin a great display of club cars was present. After leaving Rodin some members returned to Blenheim, some went onto Christchurch after having lunch at Waiau. At Waiau, Don and Linda had arranged a garage visit and to have the local museum open for us. Seventeen of us then travelled on to Hanmer Springs where we spent the next two nights. Hot pools, Bush walks, the market, shops, or just relaxing in the sun was Saturdays events. Night Trial has been shifted to Saturday 28th May, 5.00pm and will also incorporate this months Noggin and Natter with Soup and a Bun after the event. It was thought that the traffic would be lighter on a Saturday evening. See you at the A.G.M. Catherine Millar.

The pine nuts have been growing in their orchards for over twenty years and they process in a world-class facility built in 2013 as above. Secretary’s Scribblings What a wonderful few days away last week in our old cars to Kaikoura, Rodin Cars and Hanmer Springs for two nights, then home via Murchison. Thanks to Club Captain Cath for organising this. A great way to see more of our beautiful country from the driving seat of a Model A with the hood down, at about 60kmph. Some of you may have seen some photos Linda put up on the Vintage Car Club Facebook page. This caused a bit of kerfuffle from one commenter who said we shouldn’t be driving our cars so close together and should leave at least 100 meters between cars so other traffic could get past easier. Yes, he may have been correct, but the photo was taken on the Inland Kaikoura Road, just as we were turning into Rodin Cars. I had travelled for about 1 ½ hours on my own and only had 2 cars pass me in that time. It seems some people like to assume things which often are not as they seem. As I have been told in the past, to assume something makes an ass out of you and me! From our Committee meeting on Wednesday. We had a letter from Kaaren Smylie, who is the coordinator for Daffodil day in August, asking what each branch was going to be doing on the day. Once again, we will be running our very popular and successful vehicle Show at Brayshaw Park, so keep the 21st August free for this National VCC day. Also look forward to July when we have our combined run with Nelson Branch, this year to the Carluke Domain at Rai Valley where the hall has been booked in case of inclement weather. Work on the grounds has pretty much come to an end running up to winter and the work put in to keep these looking as they do is a credit to those members who put in great effort to keep them in this state. We had a request a while ago about selling the Ford branded Diagnostic equipment which is stored in the back shed at the museum. This equipment was donated to the Branch when Lucas Ford was sold and it has been decided to keep this equipment and get it out on display with information on how they work. Remember the AGM is coming up on 29th May. Nominations are open for all positions if you feel you would like to be more involved in the running of the Branch. With the change to Covid regulations, we no longer require people to sign in or have passes to be shown. Have a great month of Heritage Motoring.

From the Blokes in the Shed… An enthusiastic start to the compound tidy up has commenced by an enthusiastic team, although progress is in proportional to the scrap metal dealers ability to keep up the skip empty’s. To be included in this project will be a much needed sorting of our wheel inventory. Many of which are relatively modern and are of little interest commercially so the scrap skip will be the recipient of many these. Meanwhile in the electrical spares department Arfa has been applying his significant skills to overhaul some of our Ford V/8 generator stocks which will be available for sale for a modest price. JOKE OF THE MONTH; An elderly pensioner lady caught the same bus every Friday for many weeks and on departing at her destination she always presented the same driver with a bag of peanuts. Eventually the driver said to her that he appreciated the kind gesture but surely she could consume the peanuts herself. She replied saying that she could not eat nuts herself because she had no teeth but she enjoyed sucking the chocolate off instead. Cheers, Tris Winstanley.

April has been a quiet month, our Wednesday morning teas are still being well supported with 50 to 60 in for their usual natter. There was no natter and noggin this month as some of us were away on the trip to the Rodin car race track, a very enjoyable trip. Thank you to those that came and helped with the working bee we had in the kitchen. Natter & Noggin for Friday May 27th is cancelled and the branch is open the following night - Sat 28th for the Night Trial. We will have a “natter and Noggin” following this event and Soup and Bun meal. Don't forget AGM Sunday 29th. Cheers Dale

Motorcycle Report The change of date to avoid easter didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of everyone as we had a good turnout of bikes, thanks to Roy for going out early and helping Ron set up.

For several riders it was there first time out to Ron’s and for those who had been before there were several changes to see. The only mishap was Giles losing the side cover off the Norton, fortunately Kelvin saw on facebook that someone had found it, he then tracked them down which turned out not to be an easy task but between him and Giles they managed to get it back, so well done. In other gossip Mindy has acquired a modern 350 Royal Enfield to add to the stable, Damien has passed on his B31 to a friend in Canterbury and has got side tracked from bikes on to his VW restoration, Zig is making good inroads into the 1924 Harley, Barry is getting certification for another finished project, Sherks Norton that misbehaved going to Wairau Valley is now at Graham’s getting a tidy up and a box of shiny bits arrived from the states for the Harris ’s 24 Harley, so plenty happening out there. MOTORCYCLE ANNUAL REPORT 2022 April to March inclusive the section had 10 Sunday outings with an average attendance of 19 which includes back up drivers and wives who travelled in cars or as pillion riders. The outings were reduced by having two weekends rained off. The loss of Daffodil Day, Heritage Day and the National Motorcycle Rally due to covid restrictions also was regreted. Three short twilight rides were organised in early 2022 and while the first had a mixed success the following two went much better and gave an indication the idea could be carried on with next summer as the attendances were good and we saw several older and smaller machines out which have not been seen on the longer Sunday rides. Several new members have joined up which made up for several who have not renewed their subscriptions. The weekend trip to Kaikoura went well but a similar planned weekend for Nelson did not attract enough support to make it feasible. Possibly concern about covid caused a reluctance to participate. A few quality restorations have appeared along with some well cared for later club eligible machines. Several members have restorations in progress. The back up trailer has unfortunately been required on a number of occasions but the breakdowns have not been serious. The trailer has also had regular use taking members motorcycles to testing stations or repair shops. It has been a good investment. Again, it is good to be able to report there has been no major damage to riders or motorcycles as a result of accidental offs or collisions. Our thanks to the committee, custodians and members for their support and interest over the last 12 months.

Gear Lever for Morris Minor We have a gearbox for a 1958 Morris 1000 but it lacks a gear lever. Most useful if you want to change gear. We need it for our Trials car so it’s condition isn’t an issue and with or without a knob would acceptable!
