APRIL CLUB NIGHT - 20TH APRIL 2022 7.30 PM Former Manawatu Member Tony Haycock will be giving a slideshow presentation on his recent trip to Europe where he attended the Reims Swapmeet and the Retromobile Car Show in France.
WORKING BEE AT THE CLUBROOMS - 13TH APRIL 2022 9.30 AM > 12 NOON Members are invited to come along armed with some tools to help with a general garden tidy up and some trimming of the Macrocarpa trees along the main drive in conjunction with morning tea (provided) and some socialising with fellow members. Wanganui Branch will be hosting this event. At our Preliminary planning meeting we considered that Labour Weekend would be the preferred time to hold the event, taking into consideration known events during October 2023.
National Commercial Rally to be held in Wanganui Saturday 21 October to Monday 23 October 2023. This is an advance indication - We would like all Branches to think about October 2023 Do you have any events around this time of the month. We would like Branches to confirm that this weekend does not conflict with any event the Branch may be considering. We will give notice at the Executive Meeting to be held Saturday March 12th 2022 of our intended dates.

Hello everyone, Even though the Diamond Jubilee weekend was postponed the 58th Ruahine Ramble went ahead with great success with 32 cars and 65 people enjoying a fantastic day out thanks to Esther’s hard work. The Vero rally entrant’s photo shoot was another well supported event with only a small number of people unable to attend and Bryan Abraham took some amazing photos of the event then to finish off a fantastic weekend there was happy hour then a BBQ dinner. On Saturday March 12th there was supposed to be a VCC Executive meeting in Wellington that I was meant to attend but with COVID it was changed to an online Video meeting. I can clearly say sitting down in front of a computer from 9:30 to 4:00 is not the way I like to spend a day but I lived to tell the tale!! The big thing to come out of this meeting was the new proposed Vcc logo was voted on and was a tie so unfortunately it didn’t go through. We are very fortunate as a branch to have many very keen individuals, two of them Rob Eason and Cliff Bennett plus a few helpers have a midweek working bee at the club rooms most months especially if there is a wedding booked. They keep the outside of club rooms and the gardens in a very presentable condition this is very appreciated by the whole committee. April’s club night we will have former Manawatu member Tony Haycock give a slideshow presentation on his very recent trip to Europe where he attended the Reims swapmeet and Retromobile car show in France. Can you please let me Know if you are not receiving emails from Esther or if you have change your details. This is the way for us to keep in contact with you if there are changes to runs because of Covid. I have had to cancel the next Sunday run on the 27th March. The Ruahine Ramble had a great turn out of cars. We had cars from Levin to Waipukurau. We had last minute changes to the activities for the day and new route because of Covid. Please everyone keep safe and if you are needing any help because you are sick please pick up the phone and ask for help. CALENDAR OF EVENTS 27th March 2022
Sunday Run CANCELLED. 10th April 2022 Meet at the club rooms at 3.00pm for a cuppa then a Sunday drive. We will be going back to the club rooms for Tea put on by Derek and Esther. This is a cost of $10 per head. We will have a main meal with dessert. There is an entry form in the Tourer for this. 13th April 2022 Working Bee at the Club Rooms. This is to tidy up the gardens and hedges. Please bring appropriate tools for the job. 20th April 2022 Club night with Tony speaking on his overseas trip. 7th May 2022 PV & PWV & P60 & P80 Rally Meet at the club rooms at 9.00am for cuppa and briefing. First car will be away around 9.30am. Entry forms are in the Tourer. Sorry I have not got a price for lunch as I am waiting for the Chef to contact me with prices. I will let everyone know the prices when I have them.

Well another rally almost cancelled due to Covid, but we got lucky. After a welcoming cuppa, morning tea and a short briefing we were off. The weather was nice which made for a pleasant trip over the saddle road. When we left the main road the landscape and scenery was just amazing. We travelled along county roads to end up at Allan Mills museum. He has as an amazing range or vehicles from a steam bike through to Kenworth trucks. For a first timer there it was a very enjoyable stopover. Back on the road to Dannevirke for lunch which was a lovely way to end the rally. When we arrived we were given a sheet of paper with 10 questions to be answered correctly. After Ken replying to one of the questions with 'how the hell do I know' I said well I guess we won't be winning this rally. Well what a shock when we were called up as the winners. Over all a very enjoyable day. Look forward to the next rally. Cheers Annette and Ken Foot.

On the 6th March, as a result of the Manawatu Branch of the Vintage Car Club winning the award for the highest percentage of members attending the Vero Festival of Historic Motoring in Taranaki, a photo shoot followed by a happy hour and BBQ dinner was held at the clubrooms. Photographs were taken at the event, and a ‘Tourer’ type booklet containing approximately thirty coloured photos of the occasion was prepared. This booklet has been emailed to members using the branch email list. OBTAIN AN ELECTRONIC COPY OF A PHOTOGRAPH
Members who would like any of the xxx.JPG files which are published in the booklet emailed to them should email their request to the editor at bryana@xtra.co.nz . Please identify the required photograph(s) by quoting the page number it is on, and whether it is the top photograph on that page or the lower photograph on that page. Arrangements have been made with H&A Print in Wanganui for copies of to be printed as a booklet in A5 size (same as the Tourer) for any member requesting them. They will be printed with all pages in colour and will be available at a cost of $9.00 per copy. If you would like to place an order please email your request to the editor bryana@xtra.co.nz advising how many copies are required and the address (including postcode) to which the publication is to be sent. The Hon. Charles Stuart ROLLS (1877 – 1910) Interested in machinery from an early age, Lord Llangottock’s youngest son was a pioneer motorist and racing driver who entered the motor trade. Anxious to sell a car bearing his own name, he joined with the engineer Royce. Rolls died in a flying accident at Bournemouth having been the first man to fly the English Channel both ways. Do you know the difference between http:// & https:// when you open up a website address ?. The main difference between http:// and https:// is all about keeping you secure. Keep this in mind - especially if you order online. This is how hackers get your information. The HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. The "S" stands for "Secure". If you visit a website or web page and look at the address in the web browser, it will most likely begin with the following: http:// . This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular "unsecured" language. In other words, it would be possible for someone to "eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site. This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http:// website. But if the web address begins with https:// , that basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop. If a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https:// . If it doesn't, you should NEVER enter sensitive information such as a credit card number, etc.
