LOCAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS AT A GLANCE COVID interrupted
Firstly, my apologies to all for the tardiness of the Newsletter due to a personal matter for me. As I was unable to attend the recent Club meeting my thanks to Tom Williams for providing his Club Captains report and to Nola Weir for contributing the newsy report on the International Festival of Motoring report Club Captains Report Happy New Year to everyone although it is not off to a good start. The Christmas Dinner was well attended at the Station House restaurant on Blue Spur Road, Hokitika and finished on a musical note in a great setting. A good selection of cars turned out to add to the day. Unfortunately, as it turned out that’s the last event for some time due to the Covid safety and gatherings. After long debate the Scenicland Rally is cancelled as are the monthly runs until we move out of RED. Their was huge disappointment from your committee but this is beyond our control And finally, a bit of advice about ordering exhaust pipe. The pipe is to be made of a long hole surrounded by steel. Pipe is to be hollow the entire length – do not use pipe that is of a different length than the hole. The inside diameter of the pipe must not exceed the outside otherwise the hole will be on the outside -more on this next month. INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF MOTORING VERO 2022

LUNCH AT STRATFORD
Pat and Elaine Knowles and Alan and Nola Weir headed to New Plymouth for the Vero vintage car rally mid January, joining up with Kelly, Janis Landon Lane and Barry, Marg Wilson from Blenhiem. We had good motoring arriving in New Plymouth on Sunday afternoon, got checked in and registered where covid vaccine passes were mandatory to get your name tags. No tags on, no entry to anything. A welcome to all and opening ceremony with a drink and nibbles was all over quickly which enabled all to go back to motels to read through all the details for the coming week.
Our book of directions were well set out and a really good aspect was no one had a specific start time, just as long as you reached the lunch stops in time to collect your lunch. This was a great idea as there was very little road congestion and we stayed off main roads as much as possible. We went past lots of points of interest in the Taranaki, Cape Egmont lighthouse, Pukeiti Gardens, Maui Gas station, Kapuni Gas and Oil Fields and we visited the Tawhiti Museum, well worth a visit if you are ever up there. Farms were all very tidy and so obviously several generations have been on these farms. Agapanthas almost at every driveway and along the roads. Classed as weeds but still very pretty. Every day we had options of long or short routes, most days we opted for the long runs, weather was brilliant with extremely hot days , so traveled with the hood down most days and enjoyed the fresh air. Evenings there were prepaid meals available and live entertainment at the TSB stadium, lots of good times for all, our favourite was the Monday night with the Irish singer Marion Burns, she could certainly make her fiddle talk. Tuesday was a free day unless you wanted to partake in the competitive day . Alan and Nola went along and it was time trials for each category of motoring. You had a list of directions with speeds changing every so often. Alan and Nola came 2nd missing out on 1st place by 1 second so a fairly good effort. Thursday was a rally day to Stratford followed by a street party in Inglewood where all 500 cars were parked in town for a public display. The whole town was blocked off and some good business for the town. Friday saw our final rally day followed by the final dinner, then all homeward bound on Saturday. A good trip but all pleased to be back in the slower pace of the South Island.

Your committee is very disappointed that COVID has stopped our Scenicland Rally for another year but we look forward to hopefully coming back bigger and better next year. Please all members and families keep yourselves safe and enjoy some of the simple pleasures of lifesmell the coffee.

You cannot download a form off the internet. They are personalised for each individual vehicle. Please fill in and hand to Branch Secretary. Please note that new applications can be downloaded from the website or contact the Branch Secretary. If you wish to participate in any National VCC Event, you need to have a Vehicle Identification Certificate, don’t leave it until the last minute as it takes some time for the processing of paperwork. If you sell your vintage vehicle and it has VIC Certification please notify NZVCC, POBox 2546, Christchurch. Ph 03 366 4461 or email: admin@vcc.org.nz VERO INSURANCE - If you take your Insurance out with VERO they will then pay the Branch a small Commission which helps with Branch finances. Please note that when applying for Insurance cover with VERO you must quote the Branch number which is 36 plus your membership number.
