CHAIRMANS REPORT July 2021 At the beginning of my third year as chairman it is good news that we are starting off the year with all positions in the club filled, that’s a great start. We had a good turn out for the AGM even though the weather wasn’t the best, some 60 odd members attended. A good number of members attended the Gold Card Morning Tea enjoying fellowship and a very scrumptious morning tea, this is a great way for members to get to know each other during these winter months.

Once again welcome to new members who have joined the club over the last month, we hope you enjoy getting involved in the club activities, also I would like to welcome Donn White and Jill & John Whitcomb to our committee. Whilst I wasn’t able to attend the end of month run last Sunday I understand there was an excellent turnout with approximately 40 people attending, thanks to Kaaren and Ron Elton for organising this.

August is the VCC’s 75th anniversary and the AGM which is being held in Christchurch. As the delegate for our club I will be attending and would like to remind you that if there is anything that you as a member would like brought to the meeting please send it to me in writing via e-mail so as I can get it tabled. In March we listed a model car and number plate collection for Derek Bryan.

He did sell the NZ number plate collection and has asked that we list the USA, Canada and Australian number plate collection as per the photo. This includes the Mobil signs. Derek is asking $850 for the collection. His contact number is 07 5796298. 4

Vero International Festival Opening The Festival opening ceremony will begin at 4.30pm and conclude at 5.30pm allowing you to return to your accommodation and prepare for the first motoring day on 17th January. There are no meals available on Sunday evening. Accommodation If you haven’t booked your accommodation yet it would pay to be in early as registrations are rolling in, so choices may be limited. Registrations Some of our older members are finding registering and paying via internet challenge so could Branch Chairman or Secretaries seek out those who may be having difficulty and help where you are able to facilitate their entry.

GRAHAM HOLLOWAY—1948 FORD BONUS TRUCK PROJECT I bought the 1948 Ford Bonus off John Key in Te Puna 3 years ago x California, was all complete except no motor, g/box or driveshaft. Everything else was there. I started to work on it Jan 2019 by fitting an obtained 289 engine (also from John), a Chev Comaro 5 speed gearbox and bellhousing that converts Chev to Ford. I had a Chev gearbox spigot fitted to a XE falcon Ute V8 driveshaft in Rotorua. I have used Colin Prouce, a certifier in Rotorua, who has overseen my mounting of the motor and gearbox into the Bonus (without drilling a hole), using original Ford mount points. From then on I have done all repairs, had the cab repairs certified, repaired all panels including a new floor, guards and tray without replacing them. Then I have painted it all, have wired it, fitted front and rear screens, made and put in hood lining, and reassembled the Bonus to as it is now. I have driven around the carpark at Gate Pa as is now, (without its doors and running boards and no bonnet) and it drives so good, it is temping to drive further, but I better not.

Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; its like saying you extend life of a car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap. *Q*: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

*A*: Oh no. Wine made from fruit. Fruit very good. Brandy distilled wine, that means they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Grain good too. Bottoms up!

*Q*: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? *A*: Can't think of one, sorry. My philosophy, no pain.. good! *Q*: Aren't fried foods bad for you? *A*: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetable be bad? *Q*: Is chocolate bad for me? *A*: You crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It's the best feel-good food around! *Q*: Is swimming good for your figure? *A*: If swimming good for figure, explain whale to me. *Q*: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle? *A*: Hey! Round is also a shape! Finally the Japanese Doctor summed up: Look mister, Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways,

How did these doctors come to the conclusion that exercise prolongs life? The rabbit is always jumping up and down but it lives for only 2 years and the turtle that doesn't exercise at all, lives 400 years. So, take some rest, chill, stay cool, eat, drink and enjoy your life. You will still die.
