Chairman’s Report May started off with John Stokes’ Veteran Section meeting. The meeting was a little down on numbers due to some being away and maybe the fact that it was a week early due to the Motorcycle Meeting being a week early, as a large number of our riders were going up to the Northland Motorcycle Rally. The Motorcycle Meeting had another good turnout to hear speaker John Seccombe, President of the Landspeed NZ Association. John talked and showed a film of their events. Also at the meeting I was re-elected as the Motorcycle Coordinator for the 21st time. The Midweek Tourers went to Thames to visit A & G Price Engineering, but first they stopped of at The Boiler House Brewery for lunch. Club Captain Lynda and daughter Bea run the Boiler House and put on a special lunch for the 30 car drivers and passengers. Next up was the Northland Motorcycle Rally and as my two motorcycles were off the road for repairs, I borrowed Dave Mayhew's 1952 197cc Ambassador again. The overall winner was our own Peter Alderdice on his 1954 1000cc Ariel Square 4. Our Club Night was a Shiny Parts Auction and our final event for May was the Experts Rally plotted by Glenn and Marion Morris. Coming up on Thursday 27th June is our Branch AGM, please do come along and see how your Committee runs the Branch and what we spend your money on and feel free to ask questions. You may also get to vote on something. Well that’s all for this month so keep your wheels turning safely.

Club Captain’s Report Well this will be my last report before our AGM. John Stokes’ Veteran meetings continue with good attendance although numbers were down a little but several were away at out of town events. If you are interested in Veterans, do come along and join John’s group who normally meet on the 2nd Saturday each month. Again business commitments kept me away from the May Motorcycle Section meeting and the boys were treated to some very interesting film clips and information about Landspeed New Zealand Association. Martin was re-elected as Motorcycle Co-ordinator for the 21st time. Wow! The Midweek Tourers continue with good attendance and my business in Thames had the pleasure of hosting them for lunch before they set off to A & G Price for a guided tour. Club Night had an excellent attendance of about 40 people and it was our Shiny Parts Auction. Thanks to John Stokes and Peter Alderdice who acted as our Auctioneers for the evening. Lots of people went home with some excellent buys and good bargains too. A number of our Motorcycle Section members, I believe about 25, ventured up to Whangarei for the Northland Motorcycle Rally. It was an enjoyable run and a number of our members came away with awards, including Peter Alderdice who was the overall winner. Finally, the month of May ended with the Experts Run, being our Club Run. Thanks to Glenn and Marion Morris who plotted this run that had the tricks as expected. Seven vehicles took part in the event Thank you to the marshals who volunteered their time and also Fay Kitson and Pat Campbell who assisted me with afternoon tea. Please check your Bulletin for events coming up, but the most important event would be our Branches AGM being held June 27th. Do come along and see how your Branch is run, together with the presentation of awards for 25 and 35 year continuous membership, along with the Annual trophies which are presented on this particular evening. Veteran Notes May's meeting was quiet with some people away and others with health issues. The fact that the meeting was on the first Saturday of the month due to Motorcycle Section events may have distracted people. Gavin Welch did bring the Model T pick up along. Library Notes The big “Find of the year” has been the purchase of 17 copies of NZ Motor and Cycle Journals – 11 of them pre WW1 and all in plastic sleeves that have kept out the silverfish. These are from a collection that have already been copied for the Veteran Car Club of NZ and are available on a disc which we hold. Originals give us the best pictures for authors to use for articles in Beaded Wheels etc. Another rare book has been without a home in the Library because we are not sure where it came from. Titled “Automobiles of Great Britain 1921” it was falling to pieces and we took it to the Bookbinders who have done a great job rebuilding the spine and covers. It cost heaps but we now have a very useful book that features many of Britain’s post-war Vintage cars and Cyclecars that were popular at the time in the UK but so different to the American cars that survived here in NZ. We would like the donor to call in and see this little book now and help us give credit for their donation please. Then our old friend Ron Jacob called in to check how we were going and left us a rare Italian book that had been given to him at about the time of the 1965 Haast Rally. The title is “Cento Italiane Vive” and there is a note in the cover written by the books author Anselmi thanking Ron for looking after him during a visit to NZ and stating that NZ had more Vintage Italian cars than Italy! At the time, Ron had an Ansaldo but they went so well they would self destruct generally the overhead cam drive gears. Ron had a successful Haast run and later swapped the Ansaldo for a Lancia during the1972 Australian Rally. Both were rare cars in their adopted countries but we could write another book about this story! Just a few weeks ago on Trademe we found a real book on Vauxhall written by Ian Coomber, a past employee of the company. The title is” Vauxhall: Britain’s Oldest Car Maker” and we got it for $30.00. Motorcycle Notes May’s Motorcycle meeting was a warm and sunny afternoon. Our guest speaker, John Seccombe, President of Landspeed New Zealand Association arrived and set up his laptop ready for the meeting. I gave him a tour of our facilities, his words were” impressive”, liked the Library, the Barn and Charabanc. We had a great selection of 20 bikes and 50 plus members in attendance. Visitors included Terry Dougherty who rides a Moto Guzzi V7, new member Les Kline who rides a Triumph Tiger Cub and Buster Westhill, the latter two came from Orewa, also Roy White came up from Whangamata. Reports: Peter Alderdice reported on the recent Pukekohe Swap meet held at the Indian Community Centre which was a bit disappointing and not as good as it used to be. It seems to be attracting more bric-a-brac stuff. Leo Fowler went to try and sell his Austin 7, didn’t sell then, but has had a few calls with offers since. Graeme Crawley told us about the recent Ariel Rally held around Gisborne and East Cape. Coming Up: Saturday 15 June—Motorcycle meeting. Thursday 27 June—Branch AGM - please remember that this is your Branch so do come along and see how the Branch is run and also support the Motorcycle members standing for Committee. Sunday 7 July—Kaiaua Fish ‘n Chip run - leaves Jolly Farmer Drury at 11:00am. Before the guest speaker was given the floor, Martin advised members it was that time of the year again to nominate the Motorcycle Co-ordinator to run the meetings and go on Committee, but before he had asked for any nominations his name was chanted and they all said it’s you again. Martin thanked the membership for their continued support. Guest Speaker: John Seccombe was the instigator of the formation of Landspeed New Zealand Association. Back in 2013 he organised a Land Speed event called The Flying Mile, to be held on Goudies Road, Reporoa, but for reasons beyond his control it was cancelled at the last moment. John set in motion the formation of Land speed New Zealand Association so this won’t happen again. His motorcycle roots trace back to 1967 when he was racing a Yamaha YDS3 with a TD1B 250cc Yamaha race engine fitted to it. At the age of 20 (1969) he competed in a Hamilton Motorcycle Club Land Speed Trial, achieving 134 mph on the 250cc Yamaha. In 1970 he travelled to England to work for a Mini Cooper Race team as a specialist welder. To quote John “four years with a professional Race team taught me so much, way more than just welding”. Returning to NZ, he then owned a welding and construction business, quite multi-talented is our John. For the last 26 years he has been consulting and constructing for the Fishing Industry around the world. He designs and builds specialised recirculating sea water systems for live seafood and Fisheries research. His passion for motorcycles and speed revived itself 6 years ago. He currently owns a couple of Suzuki Hayabusa’s, competing in land speed trials, drag racing and track days. Best time on the Suzuki was 192 mph (309khp). John recently clocked a speed of 205mph (330kph) on a Kawasaki H2R. John showed us film of a recent Warbirds event at Tauranga airport where he and 20 of his motorcycle members demonstrated

The other film was of the February Land Speed event at Reporoa, where the majority of the cars and motorcycles were all exceeding 300kph. Commercial Notes Murray Firth had us enthralled at our last meeting with his resumè of his and Penny’s recent Vintage & Veteran run from Ashburton to the west coast in their 1931 British Bedford, brilliantly organised by Diane & Rob Ross he says. Just getting there was surely a “Rally” in itself! I recently unearthed a bunch of photos sent to me by the late Peter Crowther, of a “graveyard” for Bedford trucks & buses situated at Puriri, a small township 14 kilometres southeast of Thames, owned and operated by father and son team, Lance & Wayne Cryer. Peter’s note says this is the largest source of “Beddy” stuff in the Southern Hemisphere and the accompanying photos should remove all doubt. From 1931, Bedford commercials began appearing on New Zealand roads, continuing well into the 80’s. By the 1970’s, New Zealand Railway Road Services had 800 SB model buses running the length and breadth of the country. Usually fitted with a two speed Eaton diff, they were pretty quick off their feet and many were retired to a second life as a motor home. A long time friend converted one over forty years ago and cut the back out, fabricating a drop down ramp in its place and a tread plate floor up over the wheel arches, enabling the carriage of his CJ 5 Jeep to and from Off Road Rallies. He threw out the petrol tank and converted it to LPG. On this trip to the South Island we were told in Queenstown, that LPG was available in Haast. It wasn’t of course, so Dave drove the bus only up hills from Fox Glacier, towing it with his Jeep, along flat ground to the next source of LPG at Hokitika. Keep M Rolling John Campbell

Mid Week Tourers Last month we went to Thames, via the western side of the Maramarua Forest and then through Turua. Over twenty starters again, with several more meeting us in Thames. Mike Loosemore was trialling his new Hupmobile before taking it south on the Irishman Creek rally. A very nice Studebaker Silver Hawk (I always did admire them) came out, but I didn’t get the name of the driver, welcome along in any case. Clarrie Ranby attracted attention in his Ford Ten special, a classic fibreglass sports car of the fifties, which he originally built and subsequently restored (after some time out of his ownership). David and Anthea Adams were celebrating their Golden wedding. At least four first timers on a MidWeek tour: Frank and Pat Lester, Ed Pollard and Hank Coenraadts. Lunch was at the Boiler House Café and Brewery, now run by no less than our very own Club Captain, Lynda Spicer. Assisted by Martin, a lovely set menu of soup, cottage pie, and vegies was enjoyed, followed by a short talk on brewing. Beer, that is. At the same time a small group of members who were lucky enough to put their names forward, went on a conducted tour of A & G Price’s Foundry nearby. Best I quote Brian Hosking here who led the team “The tour of the foundry went very well yesterday. Our Tour Guide was very knowledgeable, having served his apprenticeship there in the 1980’s. We did see a pour of the molten steel into a mould and a lot of history in that place. Amazing what they still make there.” Probably the last time any group can go there for free as they are about to put a charge on such tours. Our group made a substantial Koha to their staff social club as an appreciation. Thanks Brian. Coming Events: Wednesday 19 June: Starts from the Warehouse Carpark, Westgate, 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. departure. A shorter run of about an hour, best BYO everything at this stage but watch for emails. Wednesday 17 July: Starts from the Drury Service Centre, Southern Motorway, 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. departure. School holidays, so bring the grandies along. John Cheale has plotted a run to a new attraction in Waiuku, which amongst other things has a great display of children’s toys of yesterday. All under cover and there are lots of cafes in Waiuku. A bonus still to be confirmed, is a possible circuit of a race track (optional). Wednesday 21 August: Starts from the Warehouse Carpark, Westgate, 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. departure.

2019 Experts Rally This year’s Experts Rally was run between Barry Curtis Park in Flat Bush and the Clubrooms. Part of the rally was over new roads in the Flat Bush area behind Murphy’s Bush that has shown a massive increase in new housing and on the elevated parts one can see the Sky Tower and city skyline in the distance. From there a meandering journey covered the Highbrook industrial area before transiting through Pakuranga, the Mt Wellington Underpass and on through Meadowbank before returning to the Clubrooms via Penrose and Great South Roads. It’s interesting that all silent checks were positioned in clear sight, however, the last silent check in Walls Road less than 200 meters from the finish was missed by all. Sadly only seven starters ventured out on such a fine day. Results: 1st 2nd 3rd

Northland Motorcycle Rally For anyone who had an interest in Vintage and Classic motorcycles, the sight of 65 gleaming motorcycles gathered at the Northland Vintage Car Clubrooms to take part in this year's rally was truly a sight to behold. This very popular motorcycling event attracted riders from as far as Whangaroa in the north to Rotorua in the south, creating an opportune time for everyone to catch up with old friends and meet new comers. There were 25 Auckland members who travelled north to take part. Machines from 1930 through to 1996, with specific marques such as Ariel, Indian, Triumph, Norton, Douglas to BSA Gold Stars and a stunning 1934 Morgan three-wheeler. There were 18 BSAs, the biggest number of all makes. They all lined up ready to compete in the 100 mile Rally, Auckland’s Chairman Martin Spicer rode a borrowed 1952 197cc Ambassador 2 stroke as his two motorcycles were off the road. The first motorcycle got away at 10:00am, weather conditions were excellent, making for some really enjoyable motorcycling through the regions breathtaking countryside with its variety of large dairy farms, lifestyle blocks and bush clad hill country, keeping contestants busy following their route instructions while taking in the magnificent vista. The aroma from a great little coffee shop in Hikurangi was simply too much for some to ignore, just a quick cup and perhaps make up a bit of time won’t have an adverse effect on nominated times. After completing the timed section, it was back to the clubrooms for an enjoyable lunch. After lunch riders took a short ride of approximately 30 miles travelling south east of Whangarei and returning to the clubrooms for a cup of tea. The prize giving dinner was held at the clubrooms where everyone had the chance to catch up on the days events and enjoy a great meal. This Rally was very well attended. The absence of fast moving heavy traffic always makes for a very enjoyable ride. The countryside was stunning to say the least and the small team of branch organisers worked hard to ensure an enjoyable safe and memorable rally. What great fun, a big thank you must go to all the organisers and helpers who made this rally so successful. Below are the finishing places of our Auckland members. Chairman: Well they do say time flies when you're enjoying yourself and this last 12 months have flown by. I have thoroughly enjoyed being your Chairman for my 2nd year and would like to thank my fellow Committee members: Russel McAlpine, Tracey Winterbottom, Ian Hubbard, Alan and Shaaran Price, John Stokes, Don Green and Lynda Spicer for their sterling efforts in making the running of our Branch go so smoothly. Thanks to Bulletin Editor Val Ball who does a great job every month. Also thanks go to Barry Robert and his Library Team for doing an excellent job running the Library. Our membership numbers ebbs and flows, with around 680 making us the 2nd largest Branch behind Canterbury. Over the year we have had some very entertaining Club Nights and many members have come along and enjoyed these evenings. The Motorcycle Section continues to have very good turnouts to hear a wide variety of guest speakers. John Campbell's Commercial Section, although small, still have enthusiastic meetings. The monthly Veteran Section meetings run by John Stokes on a Saturday afternoon continue to do well with good numbers turning up. Norm & Pat Dewhurst's Midweek Tourers have very good numbers and go to interesting venues each month. Over the past year we have had some great rallies. Our Hunua 100 celebrated its 60th Anniversary, complete with an excellent turnout of competitors and Rodger Ball had plotted a very good rally route. The prize giving dinner had a very large number in attendance and as this was a special anniversary, we had a DJ for the evening. Many people danced the night away after the formalities had been completed. It was a great success and everyone enjoyed a piece of Anniversary cake which Shaaran Price had made and beautifully iced, specially for the occasion. Other major annual events held during the year were the Experts Rally, PV through P80V Rally, Veteran Rally, Vintage Muster, Ladies Run, Auckland Motorcycle Rally, the Eddie Sim, Bert Cuthbertson, Mid winter Kaiaua fish ‘n chip run, Kickstart, Wet Leg , Mug run and to kick the year off the New Years day fish ‘n chip run. The monthly club runs have also been very well attended, going different places of interest including the Wings and Wheels event in Thames, Manukau Miniature Railway, Private racing car collections and many other places. In November I attended the Auckland Motorcycle Show at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, where I manned our Branch’s stand for the 2 days with help from some of our members. We had 25 motorcycles on display and the show attracted around 15,000 spectators who came to see 1000 plus motorcycles on display. In March, I also manned our Branch stand at the Brit and Euro Car Show held at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga. This show is in its 3rd year and had over 65 car clubs taking part with nearly 1100 vehicles on display. Many

Annual Reports Contd... thousands turned up to this free show. These events are a great way of promoting our Branch and the Clubs activities and I am pleased to say that both shows have produced some new members to the Branch. Apart from our own events, there are many other branch events throughout the country our members have taken part in. Some that spring to mind are: Double Fifty, Mooloo Meander, Rubber Duckie, Maunga Moana, Northland Motorcycle Rally, Art Deco, Taupo Mail Run, Wellington Bi-Annual Motorcycle Rally and then there are the Bi-Annual National Motorcycle Rally, the Annual Easter Rally and the National Club Captain’s Tour. Many of our members have taken part in these events and have even come away with some silverware. Coming up in 2021 is the Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring event being held in Taranaki, centred on New Plymouth. As you can see we certainly do have quite a bit to keep you occupied throughout the year. Oh and at the May Motorcycle meeting I was re-elected as the Motorcycle Co -Ordinator for the 21st time, which also makes me the longest serving Committee member since Rodger Ball retired. Vice Chairman & Entertainment Report: Firstly let me extend my thanks to all those who have provided guest speakers, to Branch members who have been guest speakers or have provided movie footage, to those who continually get stuck in at functions and help out and a special thanks to Shaaran Price and her team for the supper every Club Night. Club Nights over the last year included a visit from our North Island Club Captain, Kaaren Smylie, guest speakers who told us all about the SS Toroa, an aviation and model building enthusiast, a Trade Night, we bought back the Shiny Parts Auction, had our usual pre-rally Hunua tuition, the odd movie, and another VIC and Health and Safety training day on our ‘Barn Equipment’. Of course the most important part of Club Night is members sharing information and knowledge and enjoying our passion of historical vehicles. During the year our after rally functions continued to be well catered by our ever helpful chef Gerald, with numbers reflecting vehicle entries on these events. We held a Bingo Night as a fun social event and a fundraiser to coincide with the Annual Daffodil Day which the Club nationwide continues to support. The Hunua weekend started off with a fabulous Garden Party held in great weather with a superb display of vintage cycles and a delicious afternoon tea. Our Christmas Pot Luck Dinner was again well patronised with an abundance of food to share.

Annual Reports Contd... You certainly get back what you give in this world and being involved on the Auckland Branch Committee has been rewarding. I have been on the Committee in various positions for many years, but it is time for me to step down. So let’s look forward to the new car club year – are you up for it? Participate, put your hand up, join in, help out and make the most of this unique club and all that it has to offer. Russel McAlpine
Veteran Section: The section is healthy with good attendances at most meetings, this includes some out of Branch attendees, particularly Doug Hamilton who makes the trip from Mahurangi, and our own Monty Scarborough who commutes from Kaiaua. Several members have driven their vehicles to our meetings, mainly during day light saving time. Others bring items of interest ranging from parts, to photographs and literature to the meetings. Our main event, the Annual Auckland Veteran Rally went well and the weather was kind this year. Members also attended HCCNZ events such as the Brass Era Tour. Setting events in Auckland isn't getting easier as a result of urban sprawl. Finding locations of interest isn't that easy particularly as so many have been visited by things like Mid Week Tourers and events organised by sister Branches and clubs. Last year I mentioned it was time we looked North-West for the Veteran run, as we haven't done that since 2013. At the time it appeared that many preferred a South Auckland or Franklin area event. However, it was brought to my attention that some veteran owners who don't have trailers are finding the motorway pretty daunting in a veteran. Others are finding the Mauku start a long haul, so I may try to look elsewhere for next year’s event. SouthEast, or North-West, I'm not sure. Two new vehicles have come in this year. Phil Henley's 1913 Mitchell and John Morrison’s 1908 Sears. Phil is doing remedial work to the Mitchell and John has the Sears street legal, however unlike the 1913 Humberette, it won't be taking on the Waterview tunnels. The Morrisons also completed the re-restoration of the 1917 Dodge hearse, once owned by the late Jim Montgomery. So that's short and sweet for 2018/19. John Stokes

Annual Reports Contd... Commercial Section: Though we are small in number, our section continues to meet once a month on the fourth Wednesday to “talk trucks” and buses and vans and Military Vehicles. In fact, anything that was used to make a “quid” in the day, is ripe for discussion and one new member with a bent for MV’s has fitted in very well. I’m not becoming complacent though and realize that it’s a hard road we hoe, given the age of most of us. Sadly, the younger person, that the club looks on to keep the wheels turning just isn’t joining with the frequency of 20 or so years ago. It’s not just us, all manner of clubs are in the same boat, so we just make the best of what we have. The barbecue at our home last December also suffered and as a result I decided not to collect a gold coin each month this year, toward the catering. Instead, come December I will ask those who would come, to put their hand in their pocket. This will give Pat a far better idea of catering requirements. Library: This will be my last report as I have decided to retire after 19 years as Auckland Branch Librarian. The first extension had just been completed with a minimum of shelving when the late Bill Miller and I set about making a spread sheet catalogue of all the books and manuals held in the Library. We soon ran out of shelving and made appeals to the Lion Foundation and the ASB Bank for $3500.00 each. We purchased the moving shelving with this money and soon filled it up with magazines such as: The Motor, Autocar, Motor Sport; Antique Automobile, Horseless Carriage Gazette, AUS Restored Cars, Wheels, Classic Bike, Classic Motorcycle and pre-war Green uns and Blue uns. Now we have run out of space and have had to put some magazines into plastic storage bins to return to the Barn and even keep Veteran and Vintage under the desk in the Library. We were also lucky to receive a three unit Lundia shelving at a fraction of market price from an Air Force friend of Dave Allbon’s. This has held off another crisis and a glass case for our rare books filled the last available space. Our Library has become well regarded because of the range, size and quality of our collection and we need more space to provide for the future. Annual Reports Contd... Motorcycle Section: My word where did that last 12 months go? It really does go fast when you’re enjoying yourself. And that’s what the Motorcycle Section does - we have a good time. Over the years we have had some members stop riding their motorcycles, but they still enjoy coming to our meetings for a chat with their mates and to hear from the guest speakers we have. We also have had a number of new members joining us. Being a member, you can go out on 3 rides a month if you wish, there's the Mid Week Tourers on the 3rd Wednesday, the Motorcycle run and the monthly club runs on a Sunday. We had some great speakers over the year; these are some of them: Ray Pratt from Auckland Harley Davidson, Grant from Royal Enfield, Mike Noonan who broke a world record at Bonneville on his 350cc Moto Guzzi, Speedway legend Colin Tucker, member Don Walker with his veteran Raleigh, Norm and Linda Maddock with their rare CZ racer, John Seccombe President of Landspeed New Zealand Association. I also attended the Auckland Motorcycle show at the ASB showgrounds where we had 25 motorcycles on display and the show was a great success. Following that we had our Auckland Motorcycle Rally held at Orewa, this was another excellent rally in numbers and a great ride. The next major event was the National Motorcycle Rally based in Blenheim. We had around 30 members taking part, highlights were Dave Warren winning the concours with his 1930 Indian 4 and Don Green winning the P60 class and the twin cylinder class on his 1968 Norton, plus he was 2nd overall. I also manned our Branch stand at the Auckland Brit and Euro car show at Pakuranga where we had 25 motorcycles on display. This show had over 1100 entries. I would like to thank all of you who have plotted our runs and rallies over the year. A big thank you to Lynda for putting on the great afternoon tea's and thanks to Nancy Carkeek, Lynda's right hand girl. Also thank you Jack Clark for being my scribe. Oh and I have to tell you at the May Motorcycle Meeting, I was re-elected as the Motorcycle Co-ordinator for the 21st time, as one wit said at the meeting “you can’t stop now you are just getting the hang of it ? Annual Reports Contd... Social Convenor: The major catering event of the year was the 60th Hunua Saturday evening meal. After the presentation of 50 and 60 year awards, members sat down to a catered meal prepared by Lynda Spicer and myself. I undertook putting up a display of 60 years of the Hunua 100 in the barn. It was a pleasure to work on this display and it’s surprising how much more one learns about our Branch when taking on such a project. Thanks to all the people who supplied photos and memorabilia. Sausages, onions and all other requirements for a BBQ were taken to both the Hunua lunch stop and Gymnic at Murray and Penny Firth’s property. It has been a pleasure to supply suppers at Club Nights. My thanks to the ladies who have helped serve the tea and coffee. As the old labelling on the photos from the trophy cabinets to the corner by the free-standing fireplace were badly faded, the photos have all been taken out of their frames, cleaned, relabelled and rehung. Where possible new owners have been documented on the back of the photos. You will see that we are accepting more photos of your vehicles for the Clubrooms. See advertisement in the Bulletin. To date there are ten new photos added to the collection on the walls. It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by. As the saying goes – Time flies when you’re having fun! Shaaran Price
Maintenance: Small maintenance jobs have been carried out on the Clubrooms, such as formica breakages from the end of the tables re-glued, cistern leakages fixed. Broken clubroom chairs continue to require fixing on a regular basis. The back-door mat has been replaced with a new rubber one. A new carpet sweeper has been purchased for use by ourselves and hirers. We must thank Barbara and David Allbon for the wonderful job they do keeping the gardens at the Clubrooms neat and tidy. Other people behind the scenes are Leo Fowler who, along with Charlotte Bovis, is one of our Bar Managers. Leo takes care of the alcohol purchasing, while Shaaran buys the nonalcohol items in the Bar. Charlotte does a bar duty once a month even though she is not on Committee. A big thank you to all these people. A recent survey of both the clubrooms and the barn show that the barn needs attention. The exterior cladding needs painting with a view to recladding in the not too distant future. Window surrounds on the Clubrooms need repainting. It is hoped that the painting work will start in the near future. Alan Price

Annual Reports Contd... Club Captain: Is it really 12 months since I did my last Annual report? This year has flown past and this is basically because of all the exciting events we have had within the Branch. I have had a lot of pleasure plotting a number of the monthly runs but my thanks goes out to the others who have plotted runs for you to enjoy too. We have had some excellent club runs finishing at various places, including sharing our Daffodil Day run with the Edmund Hillary Retirement Village, the Wings & Wheels in Thames, The Manukau Miniature Railway and the Awhitu Peninsula, visiting the Lighthouse and having a picnic on Grahams Beach. Some excellent Rallies have been plotted by past winners including, the Vintage Muster, PV through P80V, Bert Cuthbertson, Auckland Motorcycle Rally, Veteran, Eddie Sim and the Hunua 100. Some lovely quiet roads have been covered, beautiful scenery enjoyed and some serious rallying taking place. We have two showcase events during the year being the Hunua 100 where the majority of entrants are cars and the Auckland Motorcycle Rally. The Hunua 100 in October was our 60th and we celebrated in style, with a wonderful garden party on the Saturday and 62 people attending the Saturday night dinner held at the Clubrooms. A wonderful rally plotted by Rodger & Val Ball, culminating with an excellent prize giving dinner for 104 people at the Remuera Club, finishing the night off with a DJ and many of us dancing the night away. This year’s Annual Motorcycle Rally was held over on the North Shore and was totally based in Orewa. A great rally plotted by David Warren. I would like to thank all the plotters, marshals and helpers who have given their time in providing some excellent runs and rallies for you to enjoy, whether you are a really competitive member or simply love getting into or onto your vehicle and going for an enjoyable drive, we have certainly provided something for everyone. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, such as Clubroom maintenance, garden upkeep, finance, licences, attending Executive meetings and National AGM meetings, runs and rallies being plotted or overseen and all this is done on a voluntary basis. Many hours each month is spent by your hardworking Committee to ensure you have a brilliant Branch to come to and enjoy the events we put on. To that end I would like to thank my fellow Committee members for their untiring work, Russel McAlpine, Tracey Winterbottom, Ian Hubbard, Don Green, John Stokes, Shaaran & Alan Price and Martin Spicer. Also my thanks goes to Barry Robert and his Library team, Leo Fowler & Charlotte Bovis (our Bar Managers), Shaaran Price and her helpers for our wonderful club night supper. I would also like to pass on my personal thanks to Martin, who promotes this Branch at every opportunity, giving up weekends to attend exhibitions for motorcycles or cars where he can wave the banner for the Branch. Also, for the great speakers he brings into the Motorcycle Section. My thanks also to Russel McAlpine who works very hard finding interesting and entertaining people to come along to our Club Night.
