HALLOWEEN HOME DECORATING CONTEST

PUMPKIN SMASH RECYCLING EVENT

Is Halloween your favorite holiday? Gather all of your ghosts, goblins, and creepy crawlies to decorate the outside of your house and yard in the most festive and creative manner.

The Bensenville Public Works Department will host a pumpkin smash recycling event on Saturday, November 7. This one-day event is a great opportunity to properly dispose of your Halloween pumpkins while having a little family fun. During the event, you will have the option to either chuck or smash your pumpkin into a dumpster. Smash events like this help keep pumpkins out of landfills and reduce the amount of harmful greenhouse gasses being released into the environment.

Nominate your home by emailing the property address, name, contact info, and picture to holidaycontest@bensenville.gov. Submitted properties will be posted to the Village’s Facebook page. Awards will be given to the best-decorated single-family home. NOMINATION PERIOD: September 23 through October 23, 2026. WILKES FAMILY HALLOWEEN DISPLAY One of Bensenville’s most festive families will again offer their elaborate annual Halloween display at the corner of Center & Green Street this October. TRUNK-OR-TREAT IN DOWNTOWN BENSENVILLE Downtown Bensenville transforms into a Halloween dream along Center Street, where businesses & organizations decorate vehicles to hand out treats to young residents. Families are invited to trick-ortreat along Center Street from 3 – 5 pm on Friday, October 30. Don’t forget to wear your costume! All businesses and community organizations interested in participating must pre-register for this event. To register your organization, please visit the Village website or call 630.594.1010.

TRICK-OR-TREAT OCTOBER 31 The Village’s trick-or-treating hours are 3 – 8 pm, October 31. For your convenience, trick-or-treating participation signs will be included in the October utility bill mailing and available on the Village website. It is recommended children go only to homes they are familiar with and have outside lights on as a sign of welcome. Please caution children about the dangers of running out from between parked cars, across yards, and remind them to look both ways before crossing the street. Have a safe and fun Halloween! A

E-BIKE & SCOOTER REGULATIONS A reminder that new e-bike & e-scooter regulations went into effect in November 2025. These updated rules are intended to promote public safety and ensure responsible use of electric scooters on public roadways and in residential areas. Our 2026-2027 school year is off-and-running, and we see excitement in the classrooms, cafeteria, hallways, and in all of our activity spaces. School spirit is high, and students, teachers, and staff members are committed to building on last year’s many successes with even more success this year. We are now in our second year of using our new STEM Wing on the west side of Fenton. These modern learning spaces are both highly functional for hands-on and high-level learning and inspiring because they allow students to learn in environments similar to those they will experience at many postsecondary institutions. All of our teachers have spent the past year continuing to refine their practices and incorporating learning strategies to support student reading and writing at high-levels, and to leverage emerging technology as a tool and not as a replacement for the ability to think critically. With sports and other activities up-and-running, we invite you to see our students in action. The behind-the-scenes efforts of our students and their coaches, directors, and activity sponsors are extraordinary, and we think you will be impressed and entertained whether you attend a concert, a theatrical performance, or a sporting event. Each year, we build more partnerships with industry leaders that connect students with the world beyond their familiar Fenton classrooms, especially by introducing them to the wide range of careers available throughout our Northwest Suburban region around O’Hare Airport and the broader Chicagoland area. We want each of our students to be well-prepared for both success in postsecondary education and success in the workplace. We want each of our students to identify careers with high-wage, high-demand opportunities that align with their interests and skills. We continue to transform our practices to support students in learning our curriculum, developing their essential skills, and preparing personalized plans for their lives beyond high school. Fenton is continuing to partner with local businesses and community organizations to provide students with meaningful career experiences through semester-long or year-long internships. We can still accommodate immediate placements or internships for Semester 2 that start in January. Last school year Fenton had 60 students placed in various professional environments with 41 mentors. The placements included real estate, law office, welding, printing, automotive, nursing, and veterinary services. These valuable partnerships provide our students with real-world experiences that can validate their career choice or allow them to change course before going to college. Over the course of an internship, mentors help students grow confidence by discovering and building upon their strengths together, and students acquire valuable skills that give them an advantage in the next phase of their education or workplace journeys. SOFTBALL ALL-STATE 3RD TEAM Congratulations to Sophia Hollis and Bella Delgado for being selected in June to the 2026 Illinois Softball Coaches Association All-State Third Team! Both student-athletes played key roles in helping the Bison softball team earn 22 victories this season, which was the fourth-most wins in program history. Here are some impressive stats from the 2026 season:

SOPHIA HOLLIS 57 hits (2nd-most in a season in Fenton history) 59 runs scored (2nd-most all time) 5 home runs (4th-most all time) .491 batting average (7th-highest all time) Sophia is on pace to finish among Fenton’s all-time leaders in nearly every offensive category.

BELLA DELGADO 9 wins 3 saves (tied for the most in a season in Fenton history) 172 strikeouts (3rd-most all time) 2.59 ERA (6th-best all time) Congratulations to both athletes on this outstanding recognition and season! 8

FAR AWAY FROM HOME: THE TRAVEL PLAYS Thursday | OCTOBER 15 | 7 pm Friday | OCTOBER 16 | 7 pm Saturday | OCTOBER 17 | 1 pm & 7 pm Come see the world with us this year as Fenton presents Far Away From Home: The Travel Plays by Madeline Mitchell. Originally premiered at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival in 2023, this moving and imaginative collection of short plays explores the universal desire to venture beyond the familiar and discover what lies beyond the horizon. Journey from a child’s dream of visiting Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World to honeymooners wandering the streets of Italy, to a widow finding healing while hiking the Great Wall of China. Through a series of heartfelt, humorous, and thought-provoking vignettes, Far Away From Home celebrates the places we go and the ways travel transforms us. This production is especially meaningful for Fenton English teacher and fall play Director Dr. Mike Mitchell, as the playwright is his daughter. In addition to writing for the stage, Madeline Mitchell is a journalist with USA TODAY, where she covers the caregiving economy and the cultural expectations placed on women at home and in the workplace. Fenton welcomes the community to experience Far Away From Home on October 15, 16, and 17 at 7 pm in the auditorium. Senior Citizens are invited to a free matinee performance at 1 pm on October 17. Senior Citizens can reserve a spot at the October 17 free senior matinee by call 630.860.8620. The senior matinee includes complimentary coffee and cookies. Sábados en la Granja (Saturdays at the Farm), is a special series at Fischer Farm with hands-on programs, designed for ages 7 and older, that take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. select Saturdays, September 19 through October 10, highlighting the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Each week features a different interactive activity, with sessions costing $10 for in-district residents. The series includes a Pico de Gallo Workshop (September 19), Piñata Workshop (October 3) and a Latin American Flag Scavenger Hunt (October 10). BucketGolf is played by using just one club per person on a creative par 3 course. Hit any part of the bucket to complete the hole. The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 18, at White Pines. White Pines is more than just golf. Meet up at 37 Bar and Grill to watch the game (or games) each weekend. Enjoy Sunday Fundays at 37 Bar & Grill from September through December, with half-price appetizers, $4 16-ounce domestic beers and $5 Tito’s cocktails for dine-in guests. Catch the game, enjoy great food and drink and relax in a lively atmosphere every Sunday. The video gaming room is also open daily. Hitmix Bingo offers an exciting musical spin on the traditional game of Bingo. Instead of listening for numbers, players try to complete their game cards and win great prizes by matching with their favorite music. YOUNG AT HEART The Bensenville Park District’s active adults have a full schedule of activities this fall! Lunch Bunch & Bingo takes place September 17 and October 15. The Young at Heart offers two trips to Four Winds Casino September 23 and October 28. Additional trips include the Harley Davidson Museum September 29, Apple Holler October 13 and Dial M for Murder at the Oil Lamp Theater. The Lunch & Dinner Mobile travels to Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket on October 9 and the Lake St. Café November 3. Don’t miss Friday evening Poker Nights in the DGLC Oak Room on September 4 and October 2. The drop-in program includes snacks and beverages, and the fee is $1 for in-district patrons. The events focus on fun and friendship rather than competition, and no gambling is involved. September-October classes include Painting (6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, September 24-November 12), Crochet Bobble Stitch Scarf or Throw (6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, September 22-October 13) and Knit Lace Mesh Scarf (6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, October 20-November 3). CLUBHOUSE BEFORE- AND AFTER-SCHOOL AND DAYS-OFF-SCHOOL PROGRAMS The Bensenville Park District offers an emergency childcare service in addition to before- and after-school care program and days-off-school program for area residents as part of the park district’s Clubhouse program. Full-time kindergarten through fifth grade students will participate in a variety of structured and unstructured indoor and outdoor activities such as group games, sports, nature exploration, arts, crafts, table days and homework time as part of the Clubhouse before- and after-school programs. Registration is on a monthly basis, and District 2 bus transportation is provided to and from Johnson and Tioga schools. Child care is offered from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on school holidays, institute days and in-service days (children must arrive by 9 a.m.) for Days Off School. Drop-off and pick-up takes place at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle each day. A breakfast and afternoon snack will be provided. HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS ! HAUNTED EXPRESS

Kids ages 6-10 are invited to climb aboard the Haunted Express for Halloweenthemed fun, 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Bensenville Railroad Museum at Veterans Park! Each participant receives a spooky train ticket granting access to toilet paper mummy races and a creative craft activity using DIY puffy paint to decorate a Halloween-themed coloring page. All materials are included in this festive, familyfriendly event. In-district fee is just $12. Sign up at the DGLC.

PUMPKIN PATCH CUPCAKE DECORATING Young bakers AGES 8-12 can get into the spooky spirit from 5–6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Deer Grove Leisure Center kitchen. Pumpkin Patch Cupcake Decorating lets participants create Halloween-themed cupcakes using colorful frosting, candy decorations and fun edible toppings while learning basic kitchen skills. The fee is $55, or $50 for in-district patrons.

MONSTER MASH Join the fun at Monster Mash, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, October 24, at Varble Park and the DGLC Parking Lot. It’s among the district’s largest events of the year, featuring a trunk-or-treat, bounce house, climbing wall, pony rides, carnival games, a pumpkin patch, food and drinks and a costume contest. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, as some activities may be moved indoors in case of inclement conditions. FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING District 2 is offering free development screenings BSD2 offers free developmental screenings for children who are between 3-5 years old. The process takes about an hour and is available by appointment. During your child’s visit, trained professionals will assess key areas including gross and fine motor skills, pre-academic readiness, speech and language, as well as vision and hearing. These evaluations not only help determine eligibility for the District’s free preschool program, but also identify any areas where your child might benefit from extra support before kindergarten. If your child is already enrolled in the District’s preschool, this screening has already been taken care of. Early developmental screenings are widely recommended by pediatric and educational experts because they allow for timely identification of potential delays. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) all stress the importance of these screenings to facilitate early intervention and improve long‑term outcomes. Research shows that early intervention not only supports cognitive, social, and physical development—but also yields significant benefits in school readiness and overall success later in life. WHY THESE SCREENINGS MATTER • They help determine if your child qualifies for the District's free preschool program. • Even if your child doesn’t qualify, the screening may reveal areas where they could benefit from additional support services before kindergarten.
