I’m proud to share that U.S. News & World Reports recognized Fenton High School as one of 2025’s Best U.S. High Schools. The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college. Fenton Ranked above or near numerous other DuPage County high schools with similar demographics. They noted the following strengths: • 89% Graduation Rate • Strong College Curriculum • 33% of students took at least 1 AP Exam This is an accomplishment our entire community should celebrate and take pride in. Homecoming Congratulations to our Homecoming Royalty and all the winners from our Homecoming Assembly competitions. Thank you to Mrs. Casterton, her team of Class Council Advisors, and Assistant Principal Julia Bray for all the awesome “Night Under the Stars” themed activities. To top it all off, our Mighty Bison football team dominated the home turf with a 55-6 victory over Elmwood Park! We also welcomed home groups of alumni from the Class of 1995, 2000, 2005, 2023, and 2025. We value our school’s rich history and all the relationships we maintain that promote our legacy and often lead toward opportunities for current students.

Superintendent Search As we’ve previously shared, the Fenton Board of Education is working through a Superintendent Search Process to find our next educational leader of Fenton Community High School District 100. This process is occurring with guidance from the search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA). Thank you to the students, families, staff, and community members who completed our survey or participated in a focus group. That information was used to create an executive profile of the ideal candidate our community wants at Fenton. As the Board of Education continues to thoroughly evaluate applicants, the goal is to approve a candidate by year-end and facilitate their transition into the role by July 1, 2026 when I retire. Fenton Students Earn 5s on AP Exams

Fenton Hosts Master Chef

Congratulations to the 19 remarkable Fenton students and alums who earned 5 out of 5 points on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams last spring. A high score, especially a 5, means the students earned college credit while still in high school.

Thank you to Chef Cam Dangerfield, a two-time Food Network Master Chef Champion, for visiting Fenton to showcase the culinary career pathway. Chef Cam first visited on September 26 to prepare and serve delicious honey fire chicken sandwiches to our students during each lunch period. He will return on November 7 for more in-depth guest speaking with culinary classes.

The Fenton Board of Education recognized each student during its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, September 24. Twelve of the top scores are from returning students who have more opportunities to earn college credit. Three returning students even earned a 5 on multiple exams! Each returning student received a congratulatory yard signs and Take 5 candy bars.

This special visit was courtesy of Whitsons Culinary Group, the Fenton cafeteria vendor. We appreciate their partnership.

Celebrating 100 Years of Fenton Music Fenton will host its 100th Annual Holiday Band and Choir Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 14th at 2 pm. Admission is free to all. In addition to inviting the public to join in this historic occasion, the band and choir programs are seeking music alumni to join the performance for a few cross generational songs. Alumni interested in participating or who have photos to share should scan the QR code. There is a deadline of November 14 for alumni to join the show and to order a custom 100th annual shirt, which is available on the

VILLAGE TOY DRIVE The Village will be accepting donations for our annual toy drive through the end of November. Donation boxes will be located at the Bensenville Library, Village Hall, Police Department, Deer Grove Leisure Center, and local businesses throughout the Village. Our goal is to help ensure Bensenville families in need have an opportunity to provide their children with toys this holiday season. For more information, visit bensenville.gov

PUMPKIN SMASH RECYCLING EVENT

HOLIDAY HOME DECORATING CONTEST Gather all your holiday lights, reindeer, wreaths, and decorations, for the Bensenville Holiday Home Decorating Contest. Decorate the outside of your house and yard in the most festive and creative manner. Nominate your home by emailing the property address, name, email or phone, and picture to holidaycontest@bensenville.il.us. Submitted properties will be posted to the Village’s Facebook page. • The Holiday Decorating Contest Committee will do the judging. Awards will be given to the bestdecorated single-family home. • Nomination Period – Now Through December 12, 2025. Email nominations to: holidaycontest@bensenville.il.us • Winners will be notified the following week and posted to the Village’s social media platforms. • Entries must be received via email by 5 pm on December 12. Must be an incorporated Bensenville property to participate. The contest is for exterior decorations only, including window decorations visible from the exterior.

The Bensenville Public Works Department will host a pumpkin smash recycling event on November 8. This one-day event is a great opportunity to properly dispose of your Halloween pumpkins while having a little family fun. During the event, you will have the option to either chuck or smash your pumpkin into a dumpster. The Bensenville Park District, Village of Bensenville and Fenton High School will join to salute those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces at the annual Veterans Day breakfast at 9 am.Tuesday, November 11, at the White Pines Golf Club, 500 W. Jefferson St., Bensenville. In-district United States armed forces veterans and their spouses are invited to dine for free at the breakfast, which is sponsored by the UPS Store of Bensenville-Wood Dale. Other guests may attend for a small fee. Highlights include Purple Heart recipient Richard Duzinskas as well as presentations by Fenton High School Defending Freedom Essay Contest winners. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15 Wood Street Fitness invites those ages 10 and older to roll out their mats and share the floor with some furry friends at Puppy Yoga, 10:30 to 11:30 am Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Deer Grove Leisure Center Exercise Room, 1000 W. Wood St. in Bensenville. The program features 45 minutes of guided yoga while playful puppies roam from mat to mat, offering cuddles, kisses and wagging tails. The session wraps up with 15 minutes dedicated solely to puppy snuggles. The fee is $20 for the public and $18 for in-district patrons. Proceeds support Border Tails Rescue, a no-kill nonprofit dedicated to saving and rehoming dogs.

GOLF STICKS & DRUMSTICKS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22

Golfers of all skill levels are invited to form four-person teams and participate in White Pines’ “Golf Sticks and Drumsticks” four-person scramble November 22, beginning with a 10 am shotgun start. Each participant will take home a frozen turkey, just in time for Thanksgiving. Turkeys may be donated to the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry on site. Additionally, each player will receive two drink tickets, valid for domestic or non-alcoholic beverages, to add to the festivities. Complete registration and payment at the White Pines Pro Shop or call 630.766.0304 by November 17. The team entry fee is $400 or $100 per person. Come to Fischer Farm and enjoy the free, festive holiday music and decorations before warming up around a bonfire with hot chocolate and treats from 2 – 5 pm Saturday, December 6. Santa will be making personal house visits across Bensenville this holiday season. Catch him as he parades through the town in a lighted mobile workshop! Visit times will be arranged by the park district a week prior to the event. While the visits will be brief, everyone will receive a special treat and be able to share their gift list for the holiday season. Sign up early as space is very limited.

He brings decades of technical leadership from his work at Elgin Community College and deep local engagement, serving on the Bensenville Police Commission and being a member of the Bensenville Community Foundation. ANITA MILLER | Vice President | As Vice President, Anita brings organizational skill and educational insight. Her experience coordinating the Jr. Bison cheer board and coaching the Fenton Cheer Team allows her to help manage events and programs smoothly. She also contributes to health education by guest lecturing in Healthcare Occupations classes, helping students connect classroom theory with real-world practice. VICTORIA GONZALEZ | Secretary | As Board Secretary, Victoria brings strong community leadership and strengthens school–family ties through her work as a Project CARE mentor,her volunteer efforts in band and jazz programs. Developmental Screenings District 2 is Offering Free Development Screenings BSD2 offers free developmental screenings for children who are between 3-5 years old. The process takes about an hour and is available by appointment. During your child’s visit, trained professionals will assess key areas including gross and fine motor skills, pre-academic readiness, speech and language, as well as vision and hearing. These evaluations not only help determine eligibility for the District’s free preschool program, but also identify any areas where your child might benefit from extra support before kindergarten. If your child is already enrolled in the District’s preschool, this screening has already been taken care of. Early developmental screenings are widely recommended by pediatric and educational experts because they allow for timely identification of potential delays. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) all stress the importance of these screenings to facilitate early intervention and improve long‑term outcomes. Research shows that early intervention not only supports cognitive, social, and physical development—but also yields significant benefits in school readiness and overall success later in life. Going Digital BSD2 Report Cards & Progress Reports Made Easier We want to share some important information about our upcoming report card cycle for the 2025-26 school year, especially a change in how progress reports will be delivered. Our goal is to help you stay up to date on how your child is doing throughout the year and to improve our communication with families. What’s New • This year, all elementary progress reports will be uploaded to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Middle School parents should continue to check the gradebook for the latest academic updates. • We are preparing to move away from paper-based progress reports and report cards. Introducing FLES A New Chapter in Language Learning Our district is proud to launch the Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools (FLES) program, beginning this year with first grade. This exciting initiative expands language learning opportunities for all students and lays the foundation for future global readiness. The FLES Spanish program introduces young learners to the fundamentals of language and culture, developing early communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while fostering curiosity and appreciation for the wider world. The program will expand by one grade level each year, ensuring thoughtful implementation and sustainable growth. The mission of FLES is to cultivate a lifelong love of language learning and prepare students to thrive in a multilingual, multicultural world. Our vision is for students to develop Spanish proficiency that allows them to communicate beyond their native language and pursue diverse academic, career, and cultural opportunities. FLES aims to enhance academic achievement, build balanced language proficiency, and celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity. Through learning in more than one language, students will strengthen cognitive skills, foster community connections, and grow as global citizens who value and embrace other cultures.
