It’s a busy time at Fenton High School – full of celebrations to recap and important dates to look forward to.
Career Spotlight Series
Thank you to the dozens of industry professionals from six career areas who participated in our two-day Career Spotlight Series in February.
Professionals with a wide range of career backgrounds shared their career journeys, insights, and real-world advice with our students. Many of these speakers were even Fenton alumni who walked these very same hallways!
Meeting and hearing directly from professionals in these fields is intended to create experiences that will empower students to build or grow their academic goals, while making important connections along the way.
Senior Dates
As we head into May, our Fenton Class of 2026 is in the homestretch of their high school careers and we have a lot of hard-working students to celebrate.
Here’s a rundown of all the exciting events:
May 1 – Decision Day, with celebrations during all lunch periods
May 15 – Prom
May 18 – Senior Awards, 6:30 p.m. in the Fenton Auditorium
May 19 – Senior Brunch, 10 a.m. at White Pines Golf Club
May 20 – Graduation Practice, 8:30 a.m. in the Fieldhouse May 21 – Graduation, 7 p.m. in the Fieldhouse
Fenton’s May 21 Commencement Ceremony is a weekday, so please plan accordingly. All seniors get four tickets, with overflow seating in our auditorium to watch the livestream.
School Calendar 2026-2027
The Board of Education approved our school calendar for the 2026-2027 school year, and it’s available on the calendar page of our website www.fenton100.org or by scanning the QR code.
You’ll notice a few new aspects to the calendar. We are taking off the full week of Thanksgiving to better align with our sender districts, and our Second Semester Final Exams will be in June.
CTE Instructor of the Year
On our subsequent pages you’ll read about many student achievements, but right now I want to congratulate Ms. Ashley Giganti, who was recognized in February as a 2026 Career & Technical Education Instructor of the Year by the DuPage Area Occupational Education System (DAOES) as well as College of DuPage.
DAOES is an Illinois Education for Employment (EFE) system responsible for planning for the delivery of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in this geographical area. Fenton operates its CTE classes under the guidance of DAOES.
Ms. Giganti is only in her fourth year at Fenton in our Family and Consumer Sciences department, but she has made an extraordinary impact as an innovator who consistently brings new and creative ideas that excite her students and colleagues. Thank you, Ms. Giganti!

The Bensenville Water Park and Splash Pad, 1100 W. Wood Street, will officially open to the public on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Holiday hours (Memorial Day and Independence Day) are noon to 5 p.m. Regular hours are noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday until August 16.
The water park features multiple water slides, diving boards and a large swimming pool. The splash pad features a variety of water features and interactive elements for children of all ages to enjoy. The facility is fully staffed with certified lifeguards and attendants to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Daily admission ranges from $12-17. Season passes are available, as well as a special Bville Bundle of 10 admissions for $109 that may be used on the same day or for multiple visits. Visit BvilleParks.org/ WaterPark for more information.

Speech Team Members
Win 2nd, 3rd & 4th Place at State Finals!
Congratulations to Angelina Varghese and Arturo Hurtado Jr. for earning medals at the IHSA Speech State Finals. They led the rest of the Fenton state qualifiers to a 9th place overall finish!
Angelina Varghese won 2nd Place in Informative Speaking. Arturo Hurtado Jr. won 3rd Place in Special Occasion Speaking AND 4th Place in Original Oratory.

Fenton Girls Bowler Wins 2nd Place at State!
A huge congratulations to Denisse Astudillo for winning 2nd Place in the Chair Division of the IHSA Girls Bowling State Finals. Denisse rolled her personal best game of 163 to move into and hold onto 2nd Place. In fact, every game she bowled at State was above her yearly average!
Special Olympics
Basketball Wins 4th Place at State!
Congratulations to our Fenton Bison for winning 4th Place at the Special Olympics Illinois Region C Basketball State Finals. The Mighty Bison qualified to state by defeating powerhouse teams Glenbard West and York in the playoffs.
State Bound Wrestlers!
Congratulations to Dereck Mazariegos and Rene Reyna for their tremendous wrestling seasons that resulted in them qualifying for the IHSA State Finals. Rene was 35-7 on the season and Derek was 22-9.
SEE TOMORROW’S BUSINESS LEADERS AT INCubator Final Pitch Night
Fenton’s new INCubator program is hosting its second annual Final Pitch Night at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8th at Fenton. The evening will closely resemble the hit TV show Shark Tank, with real money going toward real business ideas.
Students in the full year Entrepreneurship class (also known as INCubator) work with real-world entrepreneurs and local industryleading mentors to create and fully develop their own product or service and incorporate it into a real-world business they own. Students experience the full range of business operations, including ideation, research, marketing, accounting, human resources, as well as the legal aspects of running a business.
Teams of Fenton entrepreneurs already competed in a mid-year MVP Pitch in January, competing in front of a panel of professionals. They’ve since refined their business ideas and will compete in the Final Pitch Night on May 8 for the chance to secure funding.
The public is invited to Fenton’s May 8th INCubator Pitch Night. These are tomorrow’s business leaders. Please consider attending and encouraging them!

SPRING INTO ACTION
Spring is just around the corner and with warmer weather comes the opportunity for many home improvement projects. Please be mindful of the Village code to avoid a citation this season. For questions regarding Village property maintenance rules and regulations, stop by the Community and Economic Development counter at Village Hall or call 630.350.3413.
1. Parking on Grass and Inoperable Vehicles are Prohibited | All parking and driveway areas shall be paved with asphalt, concrete or approved paver brick and kept in good repair. Parking on the grass or gravel is not permitted. No inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicle shall be parked, kept or stored on any premises. Motor vehicles owned by village residents require a village sticker.
2. Tall Grass & Weeds / Alley Clean Up | All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or grass growth in excess of 8”. The exterior property shall be maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. Maintain the alley free from tall grass, weeds, trash, rubbish, and lowhanging tree branches.
3. Trash, Recycle, TVs & Electronics Curbside Garbage and yard waste containers can be put to the curb or alley no earlier than 12 hours prior to pick-up and must be removed no later than 12 hours after pickup. Electronic
devices including TVs and computer electronics shall not be placed at the curb for disposal. Contact your local recycling center for disposal. Additionally, Addison Township offers several recycling events each year.
4. Brush Pick-up & Maintenance of Parkway Trees
Republic Services collects brush from April through November. Individual branches less than three feet in length and one inch in diameter will be picked up on your regular trash collection day from your regular collection point. Village crews collect larger brush on the first Monday of each month from April through November. Parkway trees are maintained as part of the Village’s Urban Forest Tree Preservation & Protection Plan. If a parkway tree appears damaged or in need of pruning, contact Public Works at 630.350.3435 or via the SeeClickFix app.
5. Routine Building Maintenance | Spring is also a good time to address routine building maintenance such as peeling paint, repairing damaged windows, doors and screens, repairing gutters and downspouts. And building maintenance also includes the garage, storage shed, and fence on your property. Addressing these items not only protects your investment and improves the curb appeal of your home but avoids a ticket.

REPUBLIC SERVICES collects April through November: individual branches less than three feet in length and one inch in diameter on your regular trash collection day from your regular collection point. Place in biodegradable paper bags or garbage cans with two “Yard Waste Only” labels attached. “Yard Waste Only” stickers can be picked up for free at the Village Hall. Republic Services collects these branches with other residential yard waste.
To discard root balls, break them up into small enough pieces to fit into your trash container for Republic Services to collect.
VILLAGE CREWS collect larger brush on the first full week of each month from April through November with the following regulations.
• Brush may be placed on the parkway for collection beginning the Friday before the scheduled collection week, but no later than 7 am on the first Monday of each month.
• Each street receives a single collection during a scheduled week; placing brush or branches out after the deadline can result in a citation and no pickup.
• Brush piles should be placed on the street side of the property NOT in the alleys.
• Place cut ends of brush and branches towards the street without root systems.
• Individual branches must not exceed eight inches (8”) in diameter.
• Items larger than eight inches (8”) in diameter, materials such as construction wood, branches with nails or spikes, wooden fence pieces, rose branches, poison ivy and grass clippings/rakings are not collected during brush pick-up and must be disposed of by the resident through other means.
• Brush collection is for single-family residences only.
• Contractor-generated brush will NOT be collected.
• NO bundling of piles with rope or wire.
• Branches smaller than three feet (3’) in length and one inch (1”) in diameter should be placed in bio-degradable bags or cans labeled “yard waste only” for pickup by Republic Services.

Summer is just around the corner, and the Bensenville Park District is ready to help patrons get out and play! Whether hitting the greens at White Pines Golf Club, cooling off at the Water Park & Splash Pad, or joining one of the park district’s many camps, fitness activities or special events, there’s something for everyone this season. Consult the Summer Program Guide to plan your summer! Registration begins May 12.
PLAY YOUR WAY!
The Bensenville Park District is continuing to bring more activities and programs to local parks! These parks serve a wide range of recreation needs based on the surrounding neighborhood, with many activities and amenities to keep visitors of all ages active and engaged for an entire day. Activities include Jim Geils Family Golf Nights, Movies in the Park, Fitness Dayz, Live at White Pines concerts and the Railroad Museum, with weekend hours noon to 4 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday in addition to 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. each Tuesday.
The Movies in the Park series kicks off May 16 with the White Pines Drive-In Movie presentation of Wicked. Watch from a golf cart at the driving range ($10 cart fee for two adults). Refreshments will be available for sale. Register in advance at the DGLC. Then watch Sketch June 6 at Sunset Park. Sarah’s Oil will be shown July 25 at Fischer Farm and Selena will be shown August 1 at Krempels Park. All movies begin at dusk.
The park district’s Fitness Dayz begin with a free Fairway Flow tai chi inspired workout at 5 p.m. May 6 at White Pines. Outdoor Aerobics takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at Sunrise Park. Then join for Yoga at the Farm at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Fischer Farm. Fitness Dayz conclude with Zumba Surf & Turf at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, at the Water Park and the Boot Camp & Veteran’s Lunch at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 15.
LOVE A PARADE? MARCH WITH THE PARK DISTRICT!
Help celebrate 250 years of the United States of America by joining the Bensenville Park District in marching in Wood Dale’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25! Sign up at BvilleParks.org/MemorialDay. The park district is also participating in the July 4 Village of Bensenville LibertyFest Parade and invites patrons to march with them! Information may be found at BvilleParks.org/LibertyFest. Participants will receive a free t-shirt sponsored by the UPS Store.
GO FLY A KITE!
Join the fun at the Glow & Soar Kite Night, a free, family-friendly event set for 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Varble Park. Guests are encouraged to bring glow-in-the-dark or light-up kites and watch as the evening sky fills with vibrant color during a night of high-flying fun and friendly competition. Participants can test their skills in a variety of contests, including the Kiddy Kite Race, Most Unique Kite, Highest-Flying Kite and Brightest Kite challenges, while spectators enjoy the festive atmosphere.
WOOD STREET FITNESS
The Bensenville Park District will introduce two new group fitness classes beginning in May at Wood St. Fitness, located inside the Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood St. Rhythm Spin is an indoor cycling class that combines musicdriven movement with endurance-based training for a high-energy, full-body workout. The class will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, beginning May 2.
Butts & Guts is a low-impact class focused on strengthening the core and glutes through controlled, targeted exercises. The class will meet from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Mondays, beginning May 4. Both classes are $10 per session, $8 for in-district patrons. All fitness classes will move to a seven-week format in June and will require advance registration. Those with an annual core class pass may register in advance for fitness classes for free. Monthly core class pass membership sales will end in May, running through the end of the month.
ILLINOIS AIR TEAM MOBILE EMISSIONS TESTING
Illinois Air Team mobile testing units will be on site at Veterans Park June 2-6 to provide convenient vehicle emissions testing for area motorists. More info at Illinoisairteam.net/mobile-testing-units.
SUMMER CAMPS
The Bensenville Park District’s summer camps provide hours of safe, supervised fun and promote development, teamwork, and socialization. Camps adhere to all IDPH and CDC guidelines while the kids have a blast. During each exciting day, campers will participate in a wide variety of engaging games, projects, crafts, and of course, daily swim time at the water park. There’s even before- and after- camp programs! For details on the many different camps available, visit BvilleParks.org/ Camps.
Register by 6 p.m. Friday, May 8, and save $10 off each full 10-day session reserved for Fischer Farm Camp (ages 6-10), Adventure Camp (ages 6-10), Sports Camp (ages 6-10) and Teen Camp (ages 11-15). You may also take advantage of the discount for registering multiple children during this time.
New in 2026, the park district is offering an Early Bird Camp, available for ages 6-14 at $40 per day ($25 per day in-district) or weekly for $185 ($100 in district). Additionally, the new All-Stars Camp for ages 6-14 where campers receive personalize coaching in sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, flag football and baseball/ softball. The weekly fee is $95, $75 in district with a separate overtime camp offered afternoons at the water park.
WATER PARK & SPLASH PAD
Stay cool at the pool! With a 155-foot water slide, two drop slides, a diving board, a 2,527 square-foot Splash Pad, sun deck, and a full-service concession stand, the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad is your home for summer fun! The season is scheduled to open Memorial Day.
The Water Park & Splash Pad has two great ways to save on admission! Pick up season passes today at the Deer Grove Leisure Center for unlimited admission to the park, free admission to aqua fitness classes, discount admission to water park events and three free guest passes! Don’t want a season pass? In-district patrons can pick up a Bville Bundle, which consists of a 10-pack of daily admissions for just $109.

WHITE PINES GOLF CLUB
White Pines will offer patrons the opportunity to test and purchase the latest in golf technology from Callaway and TaylorMade during the club’s fitting days. Expert club fitters, along with professionals from White Pines, will help customers optimize their swings using a data-driven approach. Hitmix Bingo at 37 Bar and Grill has been extended through the summer! Join the exciting twist on bingo the second Tuesday of the month—May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11 and September 8—and match great music with bingo cards for a chance to win great prizes!
Jim Geils Family Golf Nights—named for former commissioner Jim Geils—will take place beginning at 4:30 p.m. the third Sunday of each month: May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug. 16 and Sept. 20. Fees are just $5 for juniors and $10 for adults. The cart fees are $10 per cart and $10 to ride along without playing. Tees will be moved up for each of the family nights, and players can play at their own pace.
Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with live music on the patio outside 37 Bar and Grill during the Live at White Pines Party on the Patio concert series. The first show is 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday, June 18, with classic rock favorite Gallery. In Session is scheduled to perform July 16, and Strung Out closes out the series August 20. Food and beverages are available for purchase at each show.
FISCHER FARM FUN
Explore local art at the newly expanded Quilt & Fiber Arts Show from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17, at Fischer Farm. The event showcases the artistry of local creators with more than 100 displays of handmade quilts, needlework, weaving and other fiber arts. Visitors can browse a variety of fabric, supplies and oneof-a-kind gifts available for purchase in the granary barn, with all proceeds supporting the farm’s mission. Tickets are available for purchase at the farm shop on the day of the event. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 4-12 with a paid adult and free for children ages 3 and under with a paid adult.
Learn about Fischer Farm with a FREE farm scavenger hunt! Pick up the playing cards and markers at the farm gift shop, through August 31. Once every item has been found, return the playing card to the farm gift shop desk for a free prize.
Calling young writers ages 8-18 to take part in Frontier Flourish, a hands-on writing workshop set for 11 a.m.-noon Sunday, June 14, at Fischer Farm. Participants will explore the art of cursive writing while creating their own farm-themed poem or short story, using a traditional dip pen and ink to experience writing as it was done more than a century ago. The program encourages creativity and historical connection in an engaging, educational setting. Pre-registration is required.
All ages are invited to join the hands-on culinary fun at Red, White, and Batter: A Vintage Cake Celebration, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Fischer Farm. In honor of America’s 250th birthday, participants will create batter for a vintage tomato soup cake, a dairy- and egg-free recipe dating back to the 1930s, with guidance from farm staff. Each participant will receive a recipe card and a personalsized cake tin to complete their baking at home, offering a unique blend of history and heritage.

Highlights from the Future Chef Competition
The Future Chef Competition was a wonderful success, showcasing the creativity, skill, and enthusiasm of our talented student chefs. Students from across the district impressed the audience with a variety of delicious and thoughtfully prepared dishes.

Principal Diana Vergara, and Bensenville Village President Frank DeSimone, who had the difficult task of evaluating so many outstanding recipes. Their time and thoughtful consideration helped make this event meaningful for all participants.

BLACKHAWK SCHOLARS STAND OUT AT CONFERENCE COMPETITION
Our Blackhawk Scholastic Bowl team competed in the Leyden–Norwood Conference at the Rosemont Convention Center. Facing nine other schools, our students impressed with their knowledge, teamwork, and quick thinking throughout a full evening of competition. We are proud of the dedication and sportsmanship they displayed while representing Blackhawk.

Here are the key dates:
• BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR | Student attendance for Grades K–8 will begin on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
• FIRST DAY OF PRE-K | Student attendance for Pre-K will begin on Monday, August 24, 2026.
• THANKSGIVING | Thanksgiving Break will take place from Monday, November 23 through Friday, November 27. There will be no school during this week.
• WINTER BREAK | Winter Break will be from Monday, December 21 through Friday, January 1, with no school during this time. Classes will resume on Monday, January 4.
• SPRING BREAK | Spring Break will be from Monday, March 29 through Friday, April 2. There will be no school on these days.
• END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR | The last day of school will be Thursday, June 3, unless emergency days are needed.

The BSD2 Family Resource Center, located at Tioga Elementary School (Door 12, 212 W. Memorial Road, Bensenville), opens Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and warmly welcomes all members of the school community—parents, students, staff, and residents alike—to learn and grow together.
