Shrek Jr. is a hilarious and heartwarming musical that brings the beloved fairy-tale ogre to the stage. Follow Shrek as he sets out on an unexpected adventure to rescue Princess Fiona, make unlikely friends, and learn what it truly means to belong. Packed with catchy songs, colorful characters, and laugh-out-loud moments, this show celebrates friendship, self-acceptance, and the idea that being yourself is the greatest happily-ever-after of all. District 2 is offering FREE developmental screenings on Friday, May 29 2026
DO YOU HAVE A CHILD BETWEEN THE AGES OF 3 AND 5?
Professionals will assess the development of your child’s large and fine motor skills, pre-academic readiness, and speech, language, vision and hearing. The screening will help identify children who qualify for the District’s free preschool program, or who would benefit from additional services prior to entering kindergarten.
Your child must be 3 years old by the screening date to participate. Screenings take about an hour and require an appointment.

On May 25th, 1979, Melody Smith, Kim Jockl, and Jim Borchers suffered the worst tragedy of their lives losing both of their parents on American Airlines Flight 191. Dear Fenton School Community,
Believe it or not we are in the home stretch of the 2025-2026 school year. Our Class of 2026 families should mark their calendar for our Commencement Ceremony on May 21. This will be a weekday, so please plan accordingly.
We already had more than a dozen early graduates who finished a full semester early and were celebrated in December. That’s impressive!
As you’ll see in the rest of my update below, we have been busy with important foundation setting work our students can build upon as they plan for their futures. Plus, we’ve taken the first step to transitioning our Blackhawk and Wood Dale 8th graders into Fenton.
Future Ready Fenton Day
On February 5 we had our second annual Future Ready Fenton Day, which is a school-wide event that provides grade-specific activities focused on testing, career exploration, and college readiness. We better accommodated students taking the mandated ACCESS and Pre-ACT tests by dedicating the entire building all in one day. Meanwhile freshmen visited various local colleges and universities and sophomores went on Career Exploration Field Trips based on their interests, as indicated in School Links. Seniors focused on finishing their Community Service Graduation requirements by contributing to good causes throughout Bensenville and Wood Dale.

• US District Court of the Northern District of Illinois

This was an exciting opportunity to show our students the possibilities ahead of them, and then work with them to plan and get to those goals while here at Fenton.
Rising Freshmen
We were excited to host our future students in the Class of 2030 for the first time on January 15th, as they enjoyed incredible performances from our Cheer Squad, Dance Force, Drum Line, and Swing Choir during Principal Kate Ward’s welcome remarks.
The Class of 2030 also browsed endless tables featuring clubs, athletics, and elective courses to choose from. Meeting coaches, teachers, and other students is a big deal for these rising stars.

Fenton’s Winningest Boys Basketball Coach
Congratulations to Coach Chaz Taft for becoming the winningest Boys Basketball Coach in Fenton history. He earned his 123th win as the Fenton varsity coach after a 44-31 victory over Woodstock North on December 20, 2025. That moved him one ahead of retired Coach Dennis Cromer’s record of 122 wins.
Of course, the wins total is far beyond that by now, and his grand total is more than 300 wins when considering his time as a varsity head coach at South Elgin and Waubonsie Valley.

INTRODUCING DR. JASON KLEIN FENTON’S NEXT
The Fenton Community High School District 100 Board of Education voted unanimously on December 17 to appoint Dr. Jason Klein as the district’s next Superintendent effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Klein presently serves as Senior Director of Learning Partnerships at Northern Illinois University’s College of Education and Division of Outreach, Engagement, and Regional Development. He will succeed Dr. Sam Bentsen, who retires in June after serving in various capacities at Fenton since 2018.
“The Fenton Board of Education welcomes Dr. Jason Klein as our new Superintendent,” Board President Cary Lewis said. “Dr. Klein was very enthusiastic about the opportunity to join our great school, communicated his vision very well and spoke very highly of the work already being done at Fenton and his desire to help carry that work forward.”
Prior experiences with Fenton have Dr. Klein extremely eager to start working with Fenton students, staff, families, and community partners.
SUPERINTENDENT
In his current role, Dr. Klein facilitated development processes with Fenton teachers, counselors, and administrators as they created the district’s PaCE Framework (Postsecondary and Career Expectations) during the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years. This planning document guides the Fenton staff as it progressively introduces career exploration experiences to students during their four years in high school.
Dr. Klein expressed appreciation and respect for Fenton’s teachers and staff, who regularly demonstrate innovation while creating new opportunities for student learning.
“I have been fortunate to work and live in nearby communities that are very similar to Fenton. I am also grateful to have already had opportunities to experience first-hand how the talented and committed educators at Fenton care about our students and are dedicated to innovation. My experiences as a teacher, a principal, a district administrator, and particularly with preparing students for college and the workforce have prepared me to join the Fenton team and to lead and support the community’s work,” Dr. Klein stated.
Before joining Northern Illinois University in 2019, Dr. Klein also served as a principal in Palatine Community Consolidated School District 15, Assistant Superintendent of Technology and Learning at Maine Township High School District 207, and in many roles at Wheeling Community Consolidated School District 21 – first as a teacher and then as a dean, a school principal, and later as the District’s Chief Information Officer.
The Board of Education contracted with Hazard, Young & Attea (HYA), an executive search firm, to assist in and support this selection process. Engagement with students, staff, parents, and community members enabled HYA to secure input in developing the ideal leadership profile describing the expectations of the Bensenville and Wood Dale communities.

WITH ENDLESS STUDENT
PERFORMANCES!
Fenton’s annual Spaghetti With a Song public event is 1 to 4 pm Sunday, March 8th. All proceeds benefit the Fenton Music Boosters and the Fenton Music Programs. Enjoy a plate of spaghetti while listening to a variety of student performances. Our students always enjoy a live audience! This is open to the public, whether you have children at our school or not.
Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance or $12 at the door. Bring extra cash if you enjoy the thrill of entering raffles — this event typically has upwards of 20 different raffle prizes ranging from parking passes, to Prom tickets, to vouchers for expensive dinners.

SPRING MUSICAL: ‘MEAN GIRLS’
Fenton High School’s Theater Department presents “Mean Girls” for its annual Spring Musical this April.
“Mean Girls” is based on the hit 2004 movie with the same title written by Mark Waters and Tina Fey. An adaptation musical then debuted on Broadway in 2018. Mean Girls follows the journey of a new student who gets pulled into the ruthless social hierarchy of high school when she befriends — and then clashes with — the school’s most popular clique, eventually learning the importance of staying true to herself.
Show dates are scheduled for 7 pm on April 23, 24 and 25. Senior Citizens are invited to a free seniors matinee show at 1 pm on April 25, which includes a free lunch at 12 pm. Seniors can reserve a spot at the senior matinee by call 630.860.8620.

Puppy Yoga is a 45-minute class during which puppies roam between yoga mats, cuddling with participants and playing together as they move, flow and breathe. FREE MULCH
The Village of Bensenville is proud to offer free mulch to incorporated Bensenville residents beginning this spring. Residents can choose to pick up their mulch or have it delivered by the Public Works Department. This opportunity is the result of in-town brush pickups, tree trimmings, and tree removals throughout the year. For additional details or to print a delivery application, please visit the Village’s website.
MULCH DELIVERY
Delivery will take place during the week of May 11 – 15 and can accommodate up to 100 Bensenville households. To register for the program, residents must submit a signed application and waiver to Village Hall or the Bensenville Public Works Department by May 1. Residents can choose between a ½ truckload (2.5 cubic yards) or a full truckload (5.0 cubic yards). The dropoff location will be arranged following the approval of your application.
SELF-SERVE
A concrete mulch bin is located in the northeast corner of the Public Works Facility parking lot and is available 7 days a week. Residents are responsible for loading mulch and bringing their own containers, shovels, and transportation. The property is under surveillance - please be respectful of other residents and the Public Works Facility.
SPRING INTO ACTION
Spring is just around the corner and with warmer weather comes the opportunity for many home improvement projects. Please be mindful of the Village code to avoid a citation this season. For questions regarding Village property maintenance rules and regulations, stop by the Community and Economic Development counter at Village Hall or call 630.350.3413.
1. Parking on Grass and Inoperable Vehicles are Prohibited | All parking and driveway areas shall be paved with asphalt, concrete or approved paver brick and kept in good repair. Parking on the grass or gravel is not permitted. No inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicle shall be parked, kept or stored on any premises. Motor vehicles owned by village residents require a village sticker.
2. Tall Grass & Weeds / Alley Clean Up | All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or grass growth in excess of 8”. The exterior property shall be maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. Maintain the alley free from tall grass, weeds, trash, rubbish, and lowhanging tree branches.
3. Trash, Recycle, TVs & Electronics Curbside Garbage and yard waste containers can be put to the curb or alley no earlier than 12 hours prior to pick-up and must be removed no later than 12 hours after pickup. Electronic
devices including TVs and computer electronics shall not be placed at the curb for disposal. Contact your local recycling center for disposal. Additionally, Addison Township offers several recycling events each year.
4. Brush Pick-up & Maintenance of Parkway Trees
Republic Services collects brush from April through November. Individual branches less than three feet in length and one inch in diameter will be picked up on your regular trash collection day from your regular collection point. Village crews collect larger brush on the first Monday of each month from April through November. Parkway trees are maintained as part of the Village’s Urban Forest Tree Preservation & Protection Plan. If a parkway tree appears damaged or in need of pruning, contact Public Works at 630.350.3435 or via the SeeClickFix app.
5. Routine Building Maintenance | Spring is also a good time to address routine building maintenance such as peeling paint, repairing damaged windows, doors and screens, repairing gutters and downspouts. And building maintenance also includes the garage, storage shed, and fence on your property. Addressing these items not only protects your investment and improves the curb appeal of your home but avoids a ticket.

REPUBLIC SERVICES collects April through November: individual branches less than three feet in length and one inch in diameter on your regular trash collection day from your regular collection point. Place in biodegradable paper bags or garbage cans with two “Yard Waste Only” labels attached. “Yard Waste Only” stickers can be picked up for free at the Village Hall. Republic Services collects these branches with other residential yard waste.
To discard root balls, break them up into small enough pieces to fit into your trash container for Republic Services to collect.
VILLAGE CREWS collect larger brush on the first full week of each month from April through November with the following regulations.
• Brush may be placed on the parkway for collection beginning the Friday before the scheduled collection week, but no later than 7 am on the first Monday of each month.
• Each street receives a single collection during a scheduled week; placing brush or branches out after the deadline can result in a citation and no pickup.
• Brush piles should be placed on the street side of the property NOT in the alleys.
• Place cut ends of brush and branches towards the street without root systems.
• Individual branches must not exceed eight inches (8”) in diameter.
• Items larger than eight inches (8”) in diameter, materials such as construction wood, branches with nails or spikes, wooden fence pieces, rose branches, poison ivy and grass clippings/rakings are not collected during brush pick-up and must be disposed of by the resident through other means.
• Brush collection is for single-family residences only.
• Contractor-generated brush will NOT be collected.
• NO bundling of piles with rope or wire.
• Branches smaller than three feet (3’) in length and one inch (1”) in diameter should be placed in bio-degradable bags or cans labeled “yard waste only” for pickup by Republic Services.
