Back Where He Belongs
Your kindness helped Peluche recover and return to the people who love him most.
Whenlittle Peluche arrived at the Vieques Humane Society clinic after being attacked by a larger dog, his condition was critical. His family rushed him in, terrified of losing their beloved companion.
Peluche had multiple deep wounds in his front right leg and pelvis area. And thanks to your kindness and support, our veterinary team was ready to help.
Peluche received immediate emergency care – including IV fluids and medication to control his pain – followed by two surgeries and many days of close monitoring. Wrapped in soft blankets and surrounded by gentle hands, he slowly began to heal, one small sign of progress at a time.
Today, Peluche is healthy, happy, and back home with the family who loves him. His story is just one example of how your generosity changes lives. Because of you, animals in crisis receive the care they need, right when they need it, and families who love them find hope instead of heartbreak.
Because of you, Peluche’s story ended not in heartbreak, but in homecoming.
Your support keeps our clinic doors open week after week, providing affordable veterinary care, spay/neuter surgeries, and compassion for every animal who needs us.
Continued, over
Thank you from Peluche and all other animals saved by your amazing love!

Peluche after surgery
Each visit, each recovery, and each joyful reunion happen because you care.
Thank you for believing that every animal — no matter how small, scared, or hurt — deserves a chance to heal and to feel love again.
Because of you, we’re here for animals in need every day and in every way that matters.
A Record Year of Volunteer Love
This year, more than 350 visitors — a new record! — have shared their time and hearts with our animals, coming from all across the U.S. and even as far away as Norway.
Thank you to everyone who made a furry friend part of your visit to Vieques. You’re making a world of difference, one walk, one car ride, and one overnight sleepover at a time.
Tiny but Tenacious
Because of you, a trio of tiny kittens got the care — and the second chance — they deserved.
Three tiny kittens. Alone with no mother in sight. Barely five weeks old and far too young to survive on their own.
Thanks to a kind Samaritan, the three babies were brought to VHS for help. They were frightened, hungry, and weak, but they were alive.
Our team quickly assessed the kittens and began providing the nutritious food, medical care, and comfort they needed to heal and grow. One of our amazing foster families took them in, and their fighting spirits soon shone through, especially one little kitten named Canela whose feisty playfulness kept her foster family entertained.

Canela
After a few weeks of growing stronger, Canela was transferred to one of our shelter partners, where she’ll soon be ready to find her forever family. Her siblings aren’t far behind — they’re headed to Vermont to begin new lives filled with comfort and love.
Your support makes stories like this possible every single day. From bottle babies to seniors, every homeless animal who comes through our doors receives safety, nourishment, and a chance to begin again, all because of you.
Thank you for helping us care for the most vulnerable and giving them the future they deserve.
Thanks to you, Canela has a home and a family who adores her.
Canela and her siblings have gone from fragile and frightened to healthy, playful, and ready for forever homes.
From
Abandoned to Adored
Because of you, Jasmine’s story turned from heartbreak into hope.
She’d been abandoned. Then hit by a car.
Alone, in pain, and struggling to survive, Jasmine still managed to wag her tail when help finally arrived.

Thanks to your support, she didn’t have to suffer another moment on her own. X-rays at the Vieques Humane Society clinic revealed a serious hip injury requiring a complicated surgery. While she waited, Jasmine quickly became a staff favorite due to her sweet, patient, and trusting nature, even after all she’d been through.
Then, fate stepped in. During a MARS Ambassador Program visit to our shelter (see back cover), one of the volunteers from a partner shelter in Washington, D.C., met Jasmine and instantly fell in love. She promised to get Jasmine the surgery she
needed and find her the perfect home. Just one week later, Jasmine was on her way to D.C., a journey that cost more than $1,000 but made possible thanks to generous donors like you.
Because of you, Jasmine’s story didn’t end with abandonment or injury. It ended with healing, love, and a brand-new beginning.
After surgery

Because of you, Jasmine’s journey went from heartbreak to home — proof that every act of kindness can change a life.

Better Spaces, Brighter Futures
Your support helps us give every cat the comfort, care, and dignity they deserve.
AtVieques Humane Society, we believe every animal’s journey matters. And not just their rescue and adoption, but all the days in between. A calm, enriched shelter environment can make all the difference for animals waiting to be adopted, especially cats.
This fall, that vision came to life thanks to a partnership with the MARS Ambassador Program (MAP) and to generous supporters like you, who make it possible for our team to continually improve how we care for animals.
A team of 12 volunteers from the global pet care company MARS, representing countries from around the world – including the U.S., Sweden, Spain, and Poland – joined our VHS staff for two incredible days of transformation.

Outdoor “catio”

With materials funded through the Pedigree Foundation, they painted, repaired, and reimagined our cat house and outdoor “catio” space, creating a
safer, brighter, and more welcoming area for our feline residents.
Today, the cats of VHS enjoy more space to stretch, climb, and play, along with fresh air and natural light. These upgrades have already improved their wellbeing, helping them feel less stressed, more social, and more ready to meet potential adopters.

Because of you, cats like Pety Lu (above) can enjoy fresh air, comfort, and calm while they wait for the loving families they deserve.
One of our longtime feline residents, Pety Lu, has become the unofficial “queen of the catio.” She’s often found lounging in the sunshine, watching the world go by. Seeing her is a small but powerful reminder that every animal deserves comfort and care while they wait for their forever home.
Your support allows us to explore new lifesaving partnerships and projects like this one that directly improve our animals’ qualityof-life. Thank you for that gift!
