REFURBISHINGPUBLIC BATHROOM INTO A 24-HOUR VENDING HUB FOR STUDENT ESSENTIALS NESSECITIES

Students often need basic items late at night snacks, stationery, hygiene products but soon come to realise shops are closed. This public restroom is small, underused and unhygienic However, its location is ideal for students walking around the campus and library. Being disused gives freedom to completely redesign it without disturbing existing facilities. The size and structure allows for an efficient, 24-hour vending hub to be designed that can be low-maintenance a

cubicles pipes, replac ng w ndows etc By restart ng from the bottom we ensure the hub is biologically clean technologica ly smart, and v sua ly unrecognisable from its past use.

What’s been done before?

Are there small vending hubs or micro-spaces for public use?

BRANDING POSSIBILITIES

ForStudents!

In unstaffed retail spaces students re y on brand fam ar ty as a shortcut for qua ty and rel ab lity Research shows that Gen Z s nearly twice as ke y as other generat ons to prior tise brand name recogn tion making Gold Standard’ names like Pap er Graze, and Innocent essent al for building instant trust By stocking these famil ar favour tes the hub leverages the ‘Mere-exposure effect - the psycho og cal phenomenon where people prefer th ngs simply because they recognise them

Furthermore branding has shifted towards a more m n malist and s mp e aesthetic n recent years Th s move away from c uttered packag ng to clean ‘aesthet c design resonates deep y with students who often equate simpl c ty with premium qua ty and transparency. In a self-serv ce environment, these recognisab e well-designed brands act as a s lent ‘quality signal, ensur ng the hub feels like a curated boutique rather than just a vend ng area

During my research, I came across Mother - a UK-based technology company that designs smart nteractive vending machines offering well-known studentfamiliar brands alongside health er options Although these machines are not my own design I have used them as a reference for rough dimensions and spatial p anning with n my project, as well as incorporat ng s milar product types and brand ng to create a real stic user experience for my 24-hour student vending hub

WORKING IN THE AREA OF STUDIO JEWELLERY.

The Design Brief is to produce a piece of body adornment to be worn around the neck and shoulders. This piece should be suitable for use in a fashion photoshoot nspired by natural forms. Requ rements:

• The aesthetics must reflect the shapes and colours found in the source of inspiration

• The piece should f t ergonomically and fasten securely or fit over the head.

• The choice of materials should be l ghtweight and could include upcycled, recycled materials.

INITIALIDEAS

I chose lichen as my theme because of its organic forms rich textures, and striking contrasts of green and yellow, which offered strongvsualinspirationforarefnedyeteye-catchingneckpiece.
