On the first three slides on my portfolio, I have presented my current work I am creating in advanced higher design this year. All of it is in process and still being completed.

For my design portfolio I have chosen the main character from my favourite book. Inspiring me into creating a costume that portrays her life. This slideshows my research process of theme imagery .

In the bottom right corner I started using different mediums to draw the wings. In the top to corner is a red piece of fabric painted in watercolour where I started exploring the main colour red.

This costume is also influenced by a designer Thierry Mugler who creates pieces in a similar style in which I’m trying to create. The four figures in costumes are examples of his work.

Here we can see myself starting to experiment with material samples and build ideas on what my main piece will be made out of.

In the top Left I have used paint markers on fabric. The top right I have tie dyed fabric and folded it in such ways to create creases and shapes.

Bottom left is more tie dyed fabric with intricate line embroidered into it.

The middle image with multiple fabrics is experimentation with beading, sewing and other tie dye techniques.

The shiny gold shapes are foil that has been carved into to create embossed shapes and line. Also folded for texture and depth.

The shimmery material in the top almost middle is angelina fibres ironed that I cut out into shapes, this method wont be used in my final piece as its too small.

This slide shows a line of design drawings which I have been developing into my final piece step by step.

It also shows my work of pinned fabrics to a mannequin. This was an important step as it let me understand the way the fabric acts when put in different positions and the way it moves . In this piece I have layered up shapes of fabric that I have folded precisely to create different 3D forms.

This slide show my higher expressive portfolio, inspired by my cat and my love for vivid colours. I used a style called surrealism, showing a dreamlike scene of a cut in half cat flying through the galaxy. I worked in a variety of mediums, for example the two galaxies in the top left is watercolour on A5.

The cat eye is acrylic on A5 , and the cat mouth is coloured pencil on a slightly bigger sheet than A5. I never ended using coloured pencil as it was too time consuming. The two smaller paintings of the cats full body are A4 where I used watercolour and acrylic. The largest image is my final piece where I used the same mediums as before on a slightly bigger page than A4.

This slid shows the process of creating a sculptured clay dragon. I made this in a workshop that I took in my own time where we were guided on how to make a unique dragon.

The top left shows a clay dragon that wasn’t fired. The next image on the right shows a glazed dragon waiting to be fired for the final time. The last image shows the completed dragon, inside the dragon its hollow. I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop where I was able to work with a material, I don’t commonly have access to and also developing my skills further with clay.

Here are some examples of work from my higher design and manufacture course which I am currently taking. This is a practice assessment folio which we done in class where we had to create a new design for a McDonald’s high chair.

The top left image shows design ideas.

The two pages in the middle show the idea I end up choosing and each step I took explaining the materials and techniques I would utilise to make it.

The two image on the right are parts that I made in the workshop by hand that could be used as part of the high chair.

These are some projects from a woodwork course I took in which I learned about joints, wood types and tools. The works I have provided are the highlights of the items I made which show my skills and ability in working with wood.

This slide shows my higher graphic communication course assessment task. Including CAD modelled part drawings, an exploded view, a rendered image of the CAD model in a set environment and a promotional poster.

This slide shows my higher design portfolio where I portrayed the contrasting theme of day and night throughout the aspects of a moth and flower. I done my theme research, shape extractions which I then further devolved into headpieces. Experimenting with the positions finally coming up with a final design which can be seen in the bottom left corner. Also including material samples, a paper model and a guided plan on how I was going to make this headpiece. Finally showing my finished piece. I had some difficulties along the way but I learned to push through and find new perspectives to complete my work effectively.

In the last slides of my portfolio there is a variety of works which I have made in my own time. One of my biggest passions is crochet, I adore the idea of simple stitches being able to create works of art. These are some highlights of what I made. The biggest project I have created so far is the blanket on the right of the page which turns into a bouquet of flowers. I find crochet to be a dedication as learning new stitches can seem challenging at first but once you have learned them it’s an enjoyable process.

On the final last page of my portfolio I have added some of my sketchbook sketches.

In the top left are 2 sketches of hands in pencil, for the bigger hand I used a reference image and the smaller had was my hand.

In the top middle are some 3 minute sketches in coloured fine liner of my fingers.

In the bottom left is an anatomy sketch of a man that took me 30min, using pencil (reference image was used).

In the top right is a life drawing of my model that took around 1 hour to complete.

The bottom middle is a watercolour and gel pen drawing, where I experimented with realism and a cartoon style.

The photo of the a bottle with stars was a fun origami project with over 60 stars as a piece for room décor.
