When was your business established?: Prairie Rehabilitation originated in 1996 in Worthington, MN as a partnership between Physical Therapy Associates, a physical therapy private practice founded in 1990, and Sioux Falls Center for Hand Therapy, a clinic specializing in upper extremity rehabilitation founded in 1991
What are three key points you want people to know about your business?: We are the first firm to come to Harrisburg! We are sharing a space with Kris Graff of Graff Insurance and couldn't be more excited. One of our CPAs, Courtney Lens, is a Harrisburg resident and saw the need for Harrisburg to continue growing so wanted to bring our services to the community.
What are three key points you want people to know about your business?: Our goal was to be a comprehensive rehabilitation provider offering high quality occupational therapy, physical therapy, and eventually speech therapy. What are some areas of specialty?: We specialize in lower back pain, neck pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, women's health, wheelchair positioning and much more.
We understand a large majority of Harrisburg residents work in Sioux Falls. Courtney is willing to cater to her clients with night and weekend appointments to provide convenience to their lives. KMWF provides such a wide variety of services at affordable pricing. It doesn't have to be expensive to see a CPA and our pricing shows that. What are some areas of specialty?: KMWF is a small firm which allows us to specialize in multiple areas of accounting. Harrisburg Water Restrictions Mary McClung City of Harrisburg Water Restrictions are in effect year round. Watering restrictions apply to the sprinkling, watering, or irrigating of lawns. Trees, shrubs, flower and vegetable gardens may be watered as needed. These restrictions are strictly enforced and failure to abide by them will result in up to a $200.00 fine. Currently we are at a Level 2 Restriction which limits watering or irrigating of yards to 2 days per week using the last digit of your physical address. 6.0502 Duties of Property Owners. It shall be the duty of any person owning or occupying real property bordering on any street upon which property there may be shrubs or trees, to prune or remove such shrubs or trees in such manner that they will not obstruct or shade the street lights, obstruct the passage of pedestrians on sidewalks, obstruct vision of traffic signs, or obstruct view of any street or alley intersections, except where such services are provided for by utility firms. It shall also be the duty of such person to prune or remove shrubs or trees located in the street right-of-way adjacent to their property. Removal shall be required when such shrubs or trees are diseased, dead, of a prohibited species, or pose a safety hazard or nuisance. The person owning or occupying such real property shall be responsible for pruning shrubs and trees when they violate clearance requirements. The minimum clearance of any overhanging portion thereof shall be ten feet whenever practicable, and twelve feet over all streets except truck thoroughfares where the clearances shall be fourteen to sixteen feet, unless otherwise determined by the City Council. North Middle School North And South Middle Schools Students Visited Boston And New York City! TAMRA HUFFMAN Students spent a week in Boston and New York City visiting the historical sites they studied about in class. These trips which Mrs. Huffman, an 8th grade teacher at Harrisburg North Middle School, offers every other summer aligns perfectly with the 8th grade American History curriculum.
The highlight of the trip was New York City. One of their first stops in New York City was going to the Lower East Side and witnessing how our early immigrants lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They explored the Tenement Museum and had an apartment tour. They saw first-hand how small an apartment was for a family of ten!
Mrs. Huffman has never taken a group of students to Boston before so she was very excited about taking her students to the locations that were studied about during the American Revolution. They stopped at the battle sites of Lexington and Concord, toured through Boston and visited Paul Revere’s house, Boston Massacre site, and the Granary Burying Ground where Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and other signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried. They even had the opportunity to step foot and tour on the U.S.S. Constitution!
Some of the sites the students really enjoyed were going to a Broadway show and shopping in Chinatown. The students also walked through Central Park and came upon a movie shoot. The movie “Train Wreck” was being filmed while they were there. One of the most poignant moments from the entire trip was the 9/11 Memorial. Students spent at least two hours at the new museum that honors the victims. The museum is a collection of artifacts, stories, photos, and video. It was a very emotional experience for everyone.
Some of their meals were memorable! The students were amused by colonial entertainers during their meal at the Historic Colonial Inn in Concord. The musicians performed authentic colonial songs and told jokes during a fantastic meal that ended with Boston Crème Pie. When the students visited Plimoth Plantation, their afternoon meal consisted of “Eating like a Pilgrim.” Students had a meal like the settlers at Plimoth would have eaten which means – no forks allowed and napkins over our right shoulders! The meal consisted of turkey, stewed pompion (squash), and Indian pudding. Students said it was one of the best meals of the entire trip!
Overall the students had a great time on this week-long trip and will have many memories for years to come! Mrs. Huffman plans on another trip for middle school students. Students will go to Washington, D.C. for the presidential inauguration in January 2017. Please look for information or contact Mrs. Huffman directly at North Middle School if interested.

attendance and input at these meetings affects how Tiger Nation’s dollars are divvied up each spring to those extracurricular activities who request funds. We had requests in Spring 2014 for over $21,000, Tiger Nation was able to award over $13,000 to various extracurriculars including football, volleyball, track & cross country, choir, debate, boys and girls basketball, FFA, HOSA, girls soccer, boys golf, wrestling, softball and Tiger Robotics. We would love to increase this list of extracurriculars and more importantly increase the dollar amount. The simplest way to get this done is to increase our memberships. The Harrisburg school district has over 1800 families, but we are only 130 strong in Tiger Nation. Let’s increase that, spread the word, join the booster
club and support our students! Family Memberships with Tiger Nation begin at $250 - this includes an activity pass for everyone in your household and a $25 clothing voucher to purchase Tiger Nation wear at Dauby’s Sports Center. As it now costs $5 per adult and $3 per student to attend Harrisburg Tiger athletic events, a family of four will spend $16 to get into the game. As a Tiger fan, if you attend just 14 events throughout the school year, volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, Prairie Christmas .... and with your clothing voucher of $25, you have paid for your membership. South Middle School 8th Grade Happenings 8TH GRADE TEAM
We have enjoyed getting to know students the first few weeks of school. Here is a little more about the members of the 8th grade team at Harrisburg South Middle School. Mrs. Miller teaches 8th grade general science, 8th grade advanced science and 7th grade advanced science. She is originally from northern Minnesota. She graduated from University of North Dakota. Mrs. Miller spent her first years teaching in North Carolina. However, after being blessed with triplets, she ran her own daycare. After they moved back to South Dakota, she returned to the teaching profession and is enjoying it fully. Her triplets will be seniors this year at Harrisburg High School. She will be very busy attending cheer competitions and football games to cheer on the three Tigers. In the few moments of spare time, she plays volleyball, bikes and runs. Miss Alyssa Persson teaches 8th grade general and advanced Social Studies. Graduating this year from Augustana College with majors in History and Secondary Education this upcoming school year will be her first year of teaching and is very excited! She has one brother, Trey, who was a freshman this past year at Augie. Her parents and many other family members live in

or around my hometown of Alexandria, South Dakota. Miss Persson loves spending time at home with her family, hanging out with friends, camping, running, and doing nerdy history things like genealogy. She also loves country music and tries to attend as many concerts as she can. Kayla Braffet teaches 8th Grade general English Language Arts classes. She is a graduate from South Dakota State University where she obtained her English/Secondary Education degree while playing soccer for the Jackrabbits. Prior to teaching in Harrisburg, Kayla Braffet taught at Mitchell Middle School. This year she will not only be an English teacher, but also the boys soccer coach. Kayla Braffet is originally from Central Illinois. When Kayla is not in the classroom she enjoys working out, being outdoors and reading. Mrs. Ramona Quartier-Tschudy teaches 7th and 8th grade science at SMS this year. She has been teaching in the Harrisburg District for 21 years. She earned degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Secondary Education from the University of South Dakota and continues to be a coyote fan. Mrs. Tschudy and her husband, Mike, have a son at SMS and a daughter at Liberty Elementary. When not at school, Mrs. Tschudy enjoys spending time with family as well as coaching and cheering for her kids’ sporting teams.
Mr. Chris Stewart both developed and teaches the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Tech Ed. classes. This year you may also see Mr. Stewart teaching two sections of 8th grade Math. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota in Elementary Education, with endorsements in multiple middle school disciplines. He received a Masters degree from Black Hills State University in Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics. Mr. Stewart is also about to receive his associates degree from the Community College of the Air Force. Prior to teaching in Harrisburg, Mr. Stewart spent nine years as a 5th grade teacher in Rapid City South Dakota, prior to that he was a 7th grade math and science teacher in Iowa. Mr. Stewart is married with two children who both attend school at Liberty Elementary. When not on the clock, Mr. Stewart enjoys coaching three of the districts robotics teams, working with his son in cub scouts as the Den leader for Den #4, and spending time with his family.

High School Ashton Auch, South Dakota FCCLA President, Attends National Leadership Conference MRS. TRACY KERN, HARRISBURG FCCLA ADVISOR July 6th, 2014 –More than 7,000 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members, advisers, alumni, and guests from across the country gathered in San Antonio, Texas for the FCCLA 2014 National Leadership Conference. Ashton Auch, Harrisburg FCCLA Member and SD State FCCLA President, along with her mom, Bonnie Auch, and her advisor, Mrs. Tracy Kern, attended the meeting. National Leadership Conference provided opportunities for students and advisers to come together for fun and to listen to inspiring speakers, as well as to expand their leadership skills, sharpen their talents and explore possible career pathways. The theme of this year’s conference was “SOAR” and attendees were challenged to go beyond what was expected of them to make lasting, positive impressions in their families, schools and communities. “We were delighted to gather great speakers, leadership development initiatives and the energy of the thousands of students who came to San Antonio for this conference, but realize the best part is that these students will use the event as a platform to make a difference in their own cities and states when they return home,” said Sandy Spavone, executive director of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Ashton represented the state of South Dakota during the Opening Ceremony and during STAR Events Award Ceremony. She also attended State Officer/Leadership Academy training. This training is a series of yearlong leadership trainings which allow students to customize their leadership development journey by choosing courses that fit their needs and interests. FCCLA offers over 30 Family and Consumer Sciences related events, also known as STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events. These

Bring a small pillow and blanket for the relaxation portion of the class. Tigers Take The Challenge KAYE WEBER We’ve all heard about it – the ALS ice bucket challenge, which has taken our nation by storm. The challenge spreads awareness to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Taking on the challenge was every fall sports athlete at Harrisburg High School. After practice on Friday, August 22, the fall sports teams, coaches, and managers took on the challenge by dumping a bucket of ice water on their heads. In turn, our athletes nominated all the other teams in our ESD conference. We encourage everyone to not only accept the challenge, but to consider donating to such a noteworthy cause. This year, over 4200 STAR Event participants competed this week in San Antonio. This is the largest number of competitors at any National STAR Events competition!
