ARRIVE IN BURLINGTON Explore Church Street Marketplace and all this pedestrian street has to offer, including boutique shops, restaurants and entertainment. Dining options include one of the many restaurants on Church Street or a dinner cruise on Lake Champlain aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen. Spend the night at Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington, DoubleTree by Hilton Burlington, or the Holiday Inn Express South Burlington.

DAY 1 Spend your first full day in Vermont traveling north to south on Route 7. Take in the views of the Adirondacks on one side, Vermont’s Green Mountain on the other, and sweeping farmland views in between. Start in Shelburne at Shelburne Museum, one of America’s most diverse museums of art, design and Americana. Featuring 39 buildings full of fine art, folk art, farm equipment, circus memorabilia, the steam ship Ticonderoga, beautiful gardens and much more. Stop at Dakin Farm in Ferrisburgh to experience an authentic taste of Vermont. Tour the sugar house then enjoy samples of smoked meats, cheeses and other Vermont specialties. Stop for lunch in Middlebury, a walkabout town with many shops and restaurants, or at Morgan’s Tavern at The Middlebury Inn. DAY 2 Continue your journey further into southern Vermont. Depart your hotel for Manchester. Start the day at Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home and tour the home where Abraham Lincoln’s descendants lived until 1975. The 24-room Georgian Revival mansion is beautifully preserved. Explore the formal gardens and view the restored 1903 Pullman Palace Railroad car. Enjoy lunch and shopping; visit the outlets in Manchester. Depart for Weston and The Vermont Country Store. Step back to a simpler time and place. Founded in 1946, this authentic country store is stocked to the rafters with thousands of wonderful goods, food products and more. Travel northeast to Billings Farm & Museum in Woodstock. Step into farm life and experience the beauty and inspiration of Vermont's working landscape. Enjoy the quintessential town of Woodstock. Explore the wonderful shops, restaurants and galleries, and stop by the covered bridge for a photo op. Venture east into Quechee. Explore Quechee Gorge, Vermont’s little Grand Canyon and shop at Quechee Gorge Village. Travel south to Norwich and visit King Arthur Bakery + Café, Store & School. Watch artisan bakers at work in the bakery and shop for all your baking needs. Spend the night in White River Junction at the Hampton Inn White River Junction Hotel.

DAY 3 Depart your lodging for Graniteville and visit Vermont Granite Museum and Morse Farm Maple in Montpelier. Travel on to Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury. Enjoy an old favorite flavor or try a new one at the scoop shop and browse the gift shop. Stop at Cold Hollow Cider Mill and shop the Vermont maple and other specialty products, fresh bakery, cider donuts and more. Arrive in Stowe and explore the shops on Main Street before dining at von Trapp Family Lodge and Resort. Spend the night in one of the area’s many lodging properties, such as von Trapp Family Lodge and Resort, or Best Western Plus Waterbury-Stowe. Vermont is home to more than 100 covered bridges, boasting more covered bridges per square mile than any other state. Dating back to 1820, Vermont's covered bridges are the settings for ghost stories, weddings, peaceful drives, some of our most beautiful photography and memories that will last a lifetime. This suggested itinerary showcases the iconic covered bridges, and the waterfalls surrounding them, throughout Vermont.

DAY 1 Spend the day in Woodstock, Quechee and Taftsville. Enjoy the quintessential New England town of Woodstock. This quaint town is very walkable, with great shops and a lovely covered bridge on The Green. Visit Billings Farm & Museum. Depart for Quechee, passing over the Quechee Covered Bridge. Park on the Simon Pearce side of the bridge for a photo op of the bridge and falls. Enjoy lunch at Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm, two minutes from the Quechee Covered Bridge. Depart Quechee for Taftsville. Stop for a photo op at the Taftsville Covered Bridge. Spend the night in White River Junction at the Hampton Inn White River Junction Hotel.

DAY 2 Depart White River Junction for Northfield and spend the day in Northfield, Waitsfield, Warren, Granville and Stockbridge. Northfield features multiple covered bridges, three of which are within a quarter mile on the same road. These three are a short drive but are walkable for those who choose. Depart Northfield for Waitsfield, stopping at the Waitsfield Covered Bridge. Continue on to the small shops in town, then enjoy lunch at Lareau Farm Inn. Make the short drive to Warren, passing over the Warren Covered Bridge. Then, travel to Granville and visit Moss Glen Falls, featuring picturesque and beautiful small and large falls. Continue to Stockbridge, visiting Stone Revival Gallery & Gift Shop. Enjoy a marble carving demonstration. Take in the picturesque views of the surrounding mountains from the outdoor Sculpture Garden & Studio and shop the gift shop for goods made by local artisans. Spend the night in White River Junction, returning to the hotel from the previous night.

DAY 3 Depart White River Junction and continue on to Cavendish via Route 131 for a special lunch at the Castle Hill Resort and Spa. Leave Cavendish via Route 103 to take a journey into the general store of yesteryear at The Vermont Country Store. As the purveyors of practical and hard-to-find products, you'll find a host of quality merchandise from around the block and around the world. Don’t miss the Vermont Country Store Kissing Bridge, whose name comes from an old tradition from the horse-and-buggy days. Continue south to spend the night in Springfield at the Best Western Springfield. After enjoying the scenic vistas, iconic bridges and creating memories, depart Vermont for home. Fall in Vermont is iconic, with the best sightseeing, atmosphere, and adventures. Boasting the highest percentage of maple trees in the nation, forests cover three-quarters of the Green Mountain State. Vermont’s green mountains change to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow as the days become shorter and the temperatures start to turn colder. This suggested itinerary showcases a variety of attractions and activities that highlight this special season in Vermont.

DAY 1 Begin your Vermont experience with a visit to Morse Farm Maple where eight generations have produced award winning maple products loved around the world. Next up, visit the historic Vermont State House in the state capital of Montpelier, and take some time to browse the many shops in this quaint, walkable downtown. Take the scenic Mad River Byway (Route 100) to Waitsfield, visit the small boutique shops on Bridge Street, and stop to take in one of Vermont’s many covered bridges. Enjoy lunch at beautiful Lareau Farm Inn, a quintessential Vermont inn and farm on the Mad River. After lunch, indulge in ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s, or apple cider and cider donuts at Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Top off the day with a chef demo and dinner or a Cook Academy class at The Essex Resort & Spa to take your day to the next level. Spend the night at The Essex Resort or other Burlington area hotels, such as the Doubletree by Hilton, Hotel Burlington, Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington, or Holiday Inn Express South Burlington. DAY 2 Depart the lodging property for Shelburne to visit Shelburne Museum—one of America’s most diverse museums of art, design, and Americana. Allow for three hours to take in the 100,000 works in 39 buildings. Next, head to Burlington for a scenic lunch cruise on Lake Champlain aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen. Enjoy an afternoon visit to Palmer’s Sugarhouse for a sweet maple treat. Afterwards, travel to Church Street Marketplace to browse the shops and enjoy dinner for the group or separately at one of the many dining options. Spend the night at The Essex Resort or other Burlington lodging.

DAY 3 Depart Burlington area for the Birds of Vermont Museum, where natural history meets art at this one-of-a-kind treasure. Explore more than 500 life-like wood carvings, observe wild birds and watch wood carving artisans at work, and enjoy the views on the grounds. Travel to scenic Plymouth Notch and experience the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site. One of the best-preserved presidential birthplaces in the nation, Plymouth Notch is virtually unchanged since the early 1900’s. Explore the general store, family homes, church, cheese factory, and interactive Welcome Center. Continue on scenic Route 100 to the Vermont Country Store in Weston. Shop thousands of practical and hard to find goods that will surprise and delight at every turn. Enjoy lunch at the Vermont Country Store’s Mildred’s Dairy Bar. Depart Weston for Stratton or Manchester area. Spend the night at Stratton Mountain Resort, Lodge at Bromley, or Hampton Inn Manchester.

DAY 4 Depart the lodging property for Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home. Tour the preserved mansion where Abraham Lincoln’s descendants lived until 1975. Visit the formal gardens, cheese farm, and the fully restored Pullman Car. Enjoy lunch on the grounds. Depart for lodging in Manchester or at Stratton Mountain Resort. If lodging in Manchester, dine at Barrows House. If lodging at Stratton Mountain Resort, there are plenty of dining options on property or in the village for group or individual dining. Shelburne Museum is the largest art and history museum in northern New England and Vermont’s foremost public resource for visual art and material culture. The Museum’s 45-acre campus is comprised of 39 buildings with dozens of gardens. The collection includes important American paintings by Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, Anna Mary Robertson “Grandma” Moses, and many more. President Chester Arthur Historic Site 4588 Chester Arthur Rd., Fairfield

The President Chester A. Arthur State Historic Site was the first historic site owned by the State of Vermont. In 1970, the North Fairfield Baptist Church was donated to the State of Vermont, through the efforts of Consuelo Northrop Bailey, by the Vermont Baptist State Convention. The present old brick church was constructed c. 1840. The nature trail explores the woods to the south of the reconstructed boyhood home through the transitional forest that was an open pasture at the time Arthur lived here. Aspen, birch, sugar maple, red maple, red oak, and hemlock trees populate the forest. Interspersed are stone remnants of walls created by farmers clearing their fields and stumps of harvested timber. A boardwalk allows access over the seeps of groundwater that naturally accumulates at the surface of the earth. Treasure boxes are placed along the trail; please leave your own non-living treasure such as a poem, observation, or unique items found along the trail. No restroom facilities available. The sugarhouse is open year-round for your group visits, by appointment. Maple sugaring season is March and April when the sap flows and maple syrup production is in process, but your group can learn the process, taste the syrup, sample treats, and enjoy a visit anytime. All include maple products available to sample and purchase in addition to a full tour of the sugarhouse, the maple syrup process, and history. Located in the former Jones Brothers Company granite manufacturing plant, Vermont Granite Museum offers a unique experience for any group tour. Built in 1895, the 28,000 square foot structure currently houses 50+ exhibits and handson activities as well as a Stone Arts Studio where guests have an opportunity to learn about the process of stone sculpting from a working artisan. Hubbardton Battlefield 5696 Monument Hill Rd., Hubbardton

The battle of Hubbardton, fought in the green hills of Hubbardton in the early morning of July 7, 1777, was the only Revolutionary War battle fought entirely in what would become Vermont soil. It is one of the most successful rear-guard actions in American history. It was here that British Lieutenant General John Burgoyne's seasoned and well-trained Regulars met the resistance and bravery of Americans in battle for the first time. Lasting between three to five hours, the battle involved approximately 1,200 American soldiers from Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, and 850 British and 180 German troops. President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site 3780 Route 100A, Plymouth Notch

This historic site in Plymouth Notch preserves the birthplace and childhood home of Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States. One of the best preserved presidential birthplaces in the nation, virtually unchanged since the early 1900s. This rural Vermont village includes the homes of Calvin Coolidge’s family and neighbors, a general store, church, cheese factory, and the 1924 Summer White House office. Calvin Coolidge was born here in 1872 and was sworn in as 30th president in the family homestead in 1923. He is buried in the town cemetery with seven generations of his family. Several buildings are open to the public, as are the surrounding grounds and gardens. A interactive, multimedia permanent exhibition uses Coolidge’s own words, objects from his life, and period newsreels to tell the story of how a boy from rural Plymouth Notch became President of the United States. It was built by presidential son, Robert Lincoln, in 1905, during his tenure as president of the Pullman Palace Car Co., the world’s largest manufacturing company at that time. ATTRACTIONS & ENTERTAINMENT Bennington Battle Monument 15 Monument Circle, Bennington

The tallest man-made building in the state of Vermont commemorates the Battle of Bennington, a pivotal victory for American forces on the New England front of the American Revolution. On August 16, 1777, Vermont’s Green Mountain Boys, the New Hampshire Militia, and volunteers from Massachusetts, defeated British troops charged with capturing provisions stored at the Bennington military supply depot—the site where the monument stands today. The exterior of the stone monument is constructed of Sandy Hill dolomite, a blue-gray magnesian limestone quarried from the Town of Kingsbury, New York. With its wide sloping treads and low risers, the J. Phillip Rinn designed interior stair made for a gradual climb to the monument’s observation level that provides spectacular open views of Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts. Bennington Battle Monument is the second tallest unreinforced masonry building in the United States; the first is the Washington Monument, which is the tallest unreinforced masonry building in the world. Every spring, as new life stirs across the Vermont countryside, the Robb Family begins their time-honored tradition of maple sugaring, a craft passed down through six generations. At the heart of the farm stands the sugarhouse, re-built in 1998 and a defining feature of this multi-generational property. After leaving the dairy industry in 2011, the Robbs converted their milkroom into a working kitchen, where they now produce a full lineup of value-added maple goods including maple candy, maple cream, and maple sugar. Housed in a renovated old wagon shed, the Village Peddler is not just a chocolate shop but also a gift store featuring teddy bears & plush, Vermont specialty foods, maple syrup, cheddar cheese, preserves, honey, hot chocolate, homemade gelato and an array of delightful goodies. Open year-round, hours vary by season. Group Tour Highlights: The Chocolatorium offers two sweet experiences for visitors. Guests can enjoy a short film about how cacao is grown and transformed into chocolate, followed by time to explore the exhibit and shop for homemade chocolates, fudge, Vermont foods, and gifts. For a more interactive visit, the Chocolate Tasting Program includes a guided tasting of seven chocolates after the film. Chocolate craft making and make-your-own chocolate bar experiences also available, ideal for groups of 35 or smaller.
