Webb’s Machinery was once again able to hold their popular long running Discount Days. This annual event, which has been held for over 25 years ran this year from April 12 - 16 and provided Webb’s customers the opportunit y to win up to 30 per cent of f their parts purchases. Discount days provides customers the opportunity to

save a few dollars as they get ready for this year’s farming season and many people take advantage of the sale to make larger bulk par ts purchases. Tyson Rodulf Wins 4-H Provincial Communications Competition

Tyson Rudolf (17) is a grade 12 student at Innisfree Delnorte School. Rudolf joined the Innisfree-Minburn 4-H Beef Club nine years ago and presents speeches at club communications along with other club members. “When you belong to a 4-H Club you have to participate in public speaking. You write your speech or presentation and present it at your club communications. As a senior member if you win your club level, district level and regional

level, you will qualify to compete at Provincials. When you advance to the Provincial level, it is an honour to represent your club, district and region. However, with COVID-19 this year, 4-H Alberta hosted a virtual communications event to qualify for Provincials,” said Rudolf. Seventy-nine senior members from 4-H clubs across Alberta submitted and of those 79 speeches the top 10 were selected to advance to Provincials. Eight senior members from across Alberta participated in Provincials virtually on April 10. This year’s speech topic was ‘The Impact of the Carbon Tax on the Alberta Agricultural Industry’. “This year due to COVID-19, all 4-H communications were held virtually. On a normal year you would gather in your community to host and celebrate these events. Hopefully next year it will return to normal for the 4-H members. As this is my last year in the 4-H program I really appreciate that 4-H

Alberta made it possible to have a Provincial Communication competition,” commented Rudolf. Rudolf was overcome with joy and excitement when he was announced as the winner of the competition. “Every member involved works so hard to prepare, and be their best in such a tough group. I have always enjoyed doing speeches, so to win at such a level was very rewarding, all the years of practice, and hard work paid off. I think public speaking gives you good communication skills, self confidence, and good leadership skills. As a 4-H member you work hard to reach goals and to attend provincials was one of mine, and it was an honour to participate in such an event,” commented Rudolf.

COVID Vaccine - Don’t Let Fear Stop You!

The Alberta government has been pushing for residents to book an appointment to receive one of the currently approved vaccines available in Canada because of the rising number of active COVID cases and the sharp rise in hospitalization and ICU admissions. www.albertahealthservices.ca states that vaccines are a critical way to limit the spread of COVID-19 and that they are effective and safe. Immunization protects your health, as well as the health of your loved ones and the community. The vaccines approved in Canada are Covishield/AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson. Covishield/AstraZeneca administration has currently been paused in Canada for anyone under the age of 40 due to a few reported cases of Vaccine-Induced Prothrombotic Immune Thromocytopenia (VIPIT), a rare blood clot condition following immunization. The cases were first recorded in the UK where over 20 million people received the vaccine and 79 people developed VIPIT. In Canada there have been two cases reported. AHS states that the pause is a precautionary step and that anyone who does not have chronic underlying health conditions between the ages of 40-64 can receive this vaccine safely. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is also being monitored as six cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) has been reported. The blood clots occurred among women between the ages of 18 and 48, with symptoms occurring six to 15 days after receiving the vaccine. The AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are both coincidentally adenovirus-based, which is different from the mRNA vaccines that are manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Most medications/vaccines developed

and prescribed produce side-effects in certain individuals; sometimes they are mild, moderate and rarely severe but we still take them when prescribed because the benefits outweigh the risk, why not take a vaccine which could potentially save your life? If you don’t feel comfortable taking either of the two vaccines which has caused these severe sideeffects in a few people you don’t have to. I understand people having fears due to the lack of data, and misinformation put forth by the non-believers and anti-vaxxers, I do too, but I strongly urge you to become informed. The vaccines cannot infect you with COVID and you don’t have to take AstraZeneca if it makes you fearful, you can wait and get the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna. Most people that I have spoken with who have had any of the vaccines, expressed that their side-effects were mild, mainly consisting of a sore arm at the site of injection, a bit of tiredness and some general muscle aches and pains, while others have had no side-effects at all. As of April 14, 1,043,570 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta. This is 23,343 doses per 100,000 population and there are now 202,841 Albertans who have been fully vaccinated with two doses. It was recently brought to my attention that some people believe that they have to lose time from work if they are vaccinated, again that is false information. I understand that the conspiracy theorist out there would love for you to believe that vaccines are bad and that the governments are trying to sterilize the population, and that they are injecting you with microchips etc., but I ask you this, what would be the point in them [the government] doing so? If we can’t reproduce then the government will lose and humanity will be lost, that would be a tad bit stupid on their part!! Also, the government doesn’t need to inject you with microchips to know what you are doing, they already know that. For years and years, we have vacci-

nated our babies to help prevent them from being infected with many diseases, those vaccines were once NEW but it had to start somewhere and with someone, so why not take the COVID vaccine, it too has to start somewhere with someone. Everyone keeps saying they want to go back to normal, and I truly believe that is what most people want, but then you have the keyboard warriors out there trying to persuade as many people as they can, not to get vaccinated, what is wrong with you? I mean it, what is wrong with you? Don’t you want things to get back to the way they were? Don’t you want to be able to have your friends and family over for gatherings? Don’t you want the restrictions we live with currently to be lifted so all the bickering and fighting with each other can be done with? Don’t you want our economy to recover? Don’t you want to have to stop worrying about this bloody virus and who will get it and possibly die? Don’t you want it all to be done with it? I know I do!! I have been dealing with it all fairly well until lately. I am now starting to feel the effects of not seeing my children and their spouses and my friends. I am now starting to feel the stress of wondering when my turn will come, when I will pick it up and the stress that comes with it not knowing for sure if I will make it through! (Yes, I am one of the ones who is not sick enough to be popped to the

front of the vaccine line, but have underlying conditions which could tip the scale in an unfavourable direction if I was to get it). I am sick of what it [COVID] is turning some people into, rude, obnoxious, hateful, demeaning individuals, and I am sick of seeing people I care about and those I don’t even know losing their businesses and the threat of losing their businesses due to shutdowns. I am just plain and simple sick of COVID and everything it has brought with it. If you believe COVID is a hoax and you believe getting vaccinated is stupid then so be it, believe it, no one is telling you not to have your beliefs, but you don’t need to try and jam your beliefs down other people’s throats and make them feel like sheeps (as you call it) because they want to get vaccinated or take precautions. Let people make their own decisions. We are all grownups so stop trying to brainwash them with your rhetoric. I believe the majority of people are stressed and are done with COVID just as I am. We don’t need to read and hear all the theories. I used to be afraid and against the vaccine because it was NEW but now I can’t wait to get the jab in the arm because I am done, I am stressed and I just want it to be like it was or as close to it as possible. I don’t like what COVID is turning me into. My thoughts and views do not necessarily reflect those of the Vermilion Voice.

Corn Chowder

This is a quick and delicious way to enjoy a variety of vegetables. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is key to developing a good gut microbiome, and a good gut microbiome is critical for a strong immune system. Corn is full of health benefits. Corn contains the antioxidant carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin which promote eye health and help prevent macular degeneration in the eyes. Corn contains a variety of B Vitamins, vitamin A, potassium and insoluble fibre. The fiber in corn feeds your gut microbiome and helps you stay full longer. Nutrients in corn increase blood flow, lower the absorption of cholesterol and help to regulate insulin. The phenolic phytochemicals in corn help regulate insulin release and absorption. Potatoes are a natural source of lipoic

acid, vitamin C and vitamin B6. Lipoic acid, vitamin C which are needed for enzymatic reactions in the body. Scientists in the UK have found a substance called kukoamines in potatoes which with lipoic acid are natural blood pressure lowering compounds. Potatoes also contain vitamin B3, B5, potassium and manganese. Onions and garlic contain quercetin which is a potent anti-oxidant. The quercetin in onions does not degrade with heat in soups; it is only transferred into the broth. Onions are also a good source of chromium which is useful for a healthy blood sugar balance. Carrots are a good source of vitamin A and are protective of vision, our liver and brain. An interesting study has also discovered that carrots have anti-inflammatory effects that have been found to be significant when compared to aspirin and Ibuprofin. Nutrients naturally found in carrots also have been found to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, lung

and colon cancer. Celery contains at least twelve different anti-oxidants that have shown to protect our cells, blood vessels and organs. Celery is also anti- inflammatory, calming to the nervous system and hormone balancing. Red pepper is an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A and are rich in Antioxidants. The red, orange and yellow bell peppers have more beneficial antioxidants than the green peppers. As you can see this soup have more nutrients than a multi vitamin. The broth can be of chicken, turkey, vegetable stock or water. It can also be broth from boiling a ham bone. Keep in mind that the saltiness of your broth will affect the amount of salt you will need to add to the soup. This recipe uses 1 teaspoon of salt, however, taste and season the salt at the end. You can use water or a water and milk mix as well for the broth base. If you are using canned corn, then drain the liquid into your soup

as well. Cube the potato and carrots into soup size pieces. This soup I Corn Chowder 2 tablespoon butter 1 yellow onion chopped 3 cloves of garlic minced 1 cup of sliced and diced celery 4 cups broth or water 2 cups of peeled, and cubed potatoes 1 cup of chopped and cubed carrots 3 cups corn kernels (fresh, frozen or canned) 1 cup of ham or cooked bacon (chopped) 1 red pepper chopped (optional) 1/4 cup pepper 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup cream (10 – 35%) In the bottom of you pot for soup melt the butter and then sauté the onions and garlic until softened. Add the broth to the pot and the celery, potatoes carrots, corn, ham or bacon, red pepper and pepper. Cook until the vegetables are tender. Stir in the cream and season with the salt to taste.

I like to look at various events that happened in a town’s history to get a sense of what the town was like at that time. They could be major events, like a terrible fire, or small events like a wedding or town council meeting. This week, I am looking at a terrible fire that gutted part a historic landmark on Nov. 29, 1938. It was at 1:30 a.m. when a fire suddenly erupted at the three-storey Vermilion Hotel. It was not known what caused the fire, but at the time there were 16 guests staying at the hotel. As residents began to gather to watch the fire, they saw that the 16 occupants were fleeing the building by exiting out the fire escape before any harm could come to them. The night clerk at the hotel, Stanley Portsmith was the first to see the fire and he quickly raised the alarm. Hotel staff then went to the rooms of the guests, waking them up and urging them to get outside. Most of the guests were still in their night

clothes, and simply carrying their street clothes in their arms. They quickly got dressed in the streets once they had reached the hotel. While no one was killed in the fire sadly, many of the guests were living at the hotel as permanent residents and they would lose everything they owned in the terrible fire. The building had been constructed in 1908 and was 120 feet long and 36 feet wide with 22 furnished rooms on the top two floors, and a ground floor devoted to storage, a bar, restaurant, kitchen and office space. Thankfully, the wind was mild and there was no spread of the fire beyond the home, but there was some worry that the Canadian Legion Memorial Hall would also burn down, but the fire did not spread. The owner of the hotel, Ernest Wright, was in Edmonton at the Alberta Hotelmen’s Association Convention and rushed back to Vermilion early in the morning when he heard of the fire. The destruction of the hotel was pegged at $15,000, or $270,584 today. The loss of the possessions and goods

G3 Supports Safety In Vermilion With Donation Of Grain Rescue Gear

In March, the Canadian Grain Company presented Vermilion Fire and Rescue with a GSI RES-Q-TUBE and a Haul-ALL pencil auger, both of which are essential in rescuing a grain entrapment victim. When used in combination, the grain rescue tube creates a barrier between the victim and the grain while the auger helps rescuers quickly move the grain away from the victim. G3 and CASA are supporting fire departments in several other communities across the Prairies with grain rescue training and equipment. G3 is building a new high efficiency grain elevator near Vermilion which is due to open in 2021. “G3 is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our staff, customers and neighbours in all the communities we serve,” says G3 CEO Don Chapman. “We’re pleased to expand our support for the BeGrainSafe program to include Vermilion and the surrounding area.” The equipment donation is part of G3’s sponsorship of the Canadian Agricultural

Singer Songwriter Gets Nominated For Awards

Caroline Parke found her love for the fiddle a few years after moving to Tulliby Lake in 2012 with her husband and four children. Parke started writing music and did her first recording session with Ray Gathercole in Holden, Alberta, over Christmas and New Years in 2019. “I was going to the old time jams in the area, they used to have them regularly in Islay, Heinsburg, here in Tulliby Lake, La Corey, Elk Point, and Elizabeth settlement. I played guitar and sang, but I noticed that everyone played guitar, so that’s why I got into fiddle music,” said Parke. In 2019 Parke and her family went through a traumatic experience when strangers entered their proper ty at nighttime. While on the phone with the RCMP, Parke dropped her phone after being startled when someone came out of the shadows from the flower beds, attacked her, and then ran into her house where her four young children were sleeping, and slammed the door. To protect her children, Parke retaliated against the attacker, receiving minor injuries. The RCMP arrived approximately 30 minutes after Parke’s initial phone call.

“The police response time is often long and unpredictable because of our location. I went out on the deck to talk to my father-in-law, and then he drove off after we spotted, what we thought was the getaway car. I stood on the deck and dialed 911 to make sure they knew the event was at multiple houses,” stated Parke. In the following months after the at t ac k , Par ke fo u n d i t h ar d to b e comfortable in her own home. “Daytime was hard, because I was always looking out the windows to see if there were people in the yard. Nighttime was hard for the exact same reason. To top it off, I had four children that needed me and I could not communicate well with them because I always felt light-headed. I would make supper and just go in the bedroom and close the door,” said Parke. However, Parke found moments of peace when she was alone with her guitar and started writing joyful songs in October of 2019, which lead to releasing an album in May 2020 called The Road. Parke was nominated for five awards through the International Singer-Songwriter Association including; International Female Rising Star, International Album of the Year, and International

The spots were brought to the attention of Council as citizens were concerned that the low light conditions would make it harder to see pedestrians. “It was a smaller problem than we had first anticipated,” said Director of Transportation and Utilities, Derek Young. The decision to focus on the isolated spots was made after evaluating the cost of the assessment, which would amount to approximately $2,500 to $5,000. The problem spots are being addressed internally by the Town of Vermilion and ATCO. According to Young, the Council will revisit the idea of a street light assessment study at a later date.

2nd Annual Stronger For Her Virtual 5K Coming Up

Lloydminster Interval Home Society will be holding their second Stronger for Her Powered by Bioclean Disaster Services Virtual 5k Walk/Run/Bike Fundraising event this June. With a goal of raising $20,000 this vital fundraiser will assist the Society in continuing to provide their existing programs and services to Lloydminster and the surrounding communities. Introduced last year, the challenge has undergone some changes that year, which will hopefully attract more participants to sign up and get active while supporting an indispensable organization. Last year’s successful event was organized in a very short period of time, with no outside partnerships when it became obvious that the Society’s annual Children’s Gala was not going to be able to happen.

Leanne Wildeman, Resource Development Manager stated that this year’s planning began in January and has become a community involved event with sponsorships and support from Bioclean Disaster Services, Synergy Credit Union, Grindin Gears, SmileWorks, Nissan Lloydminster, and Can-Do Auto and Lube. The Society wanted to engage local sponsors in an effort to attract more participants to the event. Wildeman said that flexibility is key in attracting participants, with five days to complete the 5 kilometers, people have the ability to be active according to their schedule and what works best for their lifestyle. Here’s how it works; participants who register to complete the 5 k will be given access to a fundraising platform where they can send their supporters to donate

in an effort to help raise a minimum goal of $150. Between June 9 and 13, participants complete their 5 km walk/run/ride and record it virtually. They can go at their own pace on their schedule, not just in one set time, Wildeman says selfies are encouraged while completing activities, and can be posted on social media with the hashtag #strongerforher. Each registrant will receive a grab bag and t-shirt. Wildeman noted that Lloydminster is an incredibly supportive community of any event the Society has held, and she hopes that the ease of access and flexibility of this event will help encourage over 200 people to participate. She stated that it is open to anyone in the surrounding areas, the Interval Home does provide service to all communities within 150 km of Lloydminster, and welcomes members from all surrounding places to join the challenge.

Women’s Conference Set For May 19 This Year

Partnering with Community Futures Lloydminster and Region, the Vermilion and District Chamber of Commerce is once again holding a Women’s Conference this May. This successful event will look a little different this year, as it moves to the evening and is offered

virtually. Beginning at 6 p.m. on May 19, the Conference features Glenys ReevesGibbs from Project Gazelle speaking about Defining Success On Your Own Terms. The event is meant as “an opportunity for women to get together, learn and support one another.” according to Leanne Martin, Office Manager for the

Chamber. By offering it at night Martin is hoping women who normally wouldn’t be able to attend during the day get the opportunity to connect, get comfortable, relax and enjoy themselves. Registration for the conference is available on the Chamber’s website. Tickets are $30 plus gst, and snack and drink boxes are available for $30. The

first 100 registrants will also receive a gift bag full of goodies from local sponsors, including Uniquely U, Kinect Physiotherapy and Wellness, and Vermilion Jewellers. More COVID Recovery Aid For Alberta’s Small Businesses

Alberta’s government is expanding the small business relaunch grant to put more money in the hands of job creators when they need it to survive the end of the COVID19 pandemic. The Alberta government is offering small businesses affected by the most recent public health orders another payment of up to $10,000 from the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant. Alberta businesses affected by the latest public health orders will be eligible to apply for another payment in the second half of April. This additional payment will also be available to new businesses that began operating between March 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021, as well as hotels, taxis and ride-sharing services. “Small businesses have borne the brunt of pandemic restrictions, and have made real sacrifices to protect our health-care system and save lives. That’s why Alberta’s government has already committed over $500 million in support through the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant, and it’s why we are expanding that support today,’ said Jason Kenney, Premier. “We’ll continue to be there to support small businesses that we’ve asked to make sacrifices to help keep us safe during this pandemic. economy can fully reopen,” said Annie Dormuth, Alberta provincial affairs director, Canadian Federation of Independent Business. “Not being able to qualify for relief programs was a major frustration we heard from operators who started ventures during the early days of the pandemic. This is a much-needed program to provide some assistance for SMEs that are doing their part to stem the tide of our current pandemic,” said Ken Kobly, president and CEO, Alberta Chambers of Commerce. “Alberta businesses face ongoing uncertainty and require flexible and accessible supports. Extending the relaunch grant provides critical support for businesses, giving them confidence that they can recover and emerge stronger,” said Murray Sigler, interim CEO, Calgary Chamber of Commerce. “This increased funding can’t come soon enough. Businesses have already faced over a year of tremendous revenue shortfalls and they will need continued help,” said Janet M. Riopel, president & CEO, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. The relaunch grant program has already had nearly 50,000 applicants, with total program costs of more than $500 million. With this latest expansion, small businesses that have qualified for all three rounds will have received as much as $30,000. The Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant (SMERG) offers financial assistance to Alberta businesses, cooperatives and non-profit organizations with fewer than 500 employees that have faced restrictions or closures due to COVID-related public health orders, and have experienced

revenue losses of at least 30 per cent. Funds can be used to: • Cover costs of items that help prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies. • Pay rent, employee wages or replace inventory. • Help businesses expand their online presence or e-commerce opportunities so that they can continue to serve customers. The program is scheduled to be open for applications until May 31 and is capped at $350 million. The updated SMERG program will replace the previously announced Enhanced COVID-19 Business Benefit and will provide funding to more businesses facing increased public health measures as announced on April 6. Alberta’s government is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by protecting lives and livelihoods with precise measures to bend the curve, sustain small businesses and protect Alberta’s health-care system. Quick facts • Applications for the additional $10,000 payment will open in the second half of April for any organization that meets the eligibility criteria. −− Applications received before the previous program closure on March 31 will continue to be processed. −− Companies that did not apply under the first run of SMERG will not be able to apply for the initial payments – only the new $10,000 payment.

Small and medium enterprises are an important part of Alberta’s economy, accounting for more than 99 per cent of all businesses and nearly 55 per cent of all employment. As of April 6, Alberta’s government has provided more than $451 million to more than 39,000 small businesses through the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant. Alberta’s government has provided billions of dollars in supports to job creators since the start of the COVID19 pandemic, including: −− Deferring corporate income tax collection for six months, providing $1.5 billion in relief. −− Deferring education property taxes and freezing the rate at 2019 levels. −− Deferring WCB premiums and paying 50 per cent of them for small and medium businesses, saving them $350 million. −− Providing a 90-day deferral for utility payments last spring. −− Banning commercial evictions, rent increases and late fees for commercial tenants. Additional supports for businesses are available through the federal government.

New Education Degree Pathway Between UCalgary And Lakeland Lakeland College Submitted

People interested in earning an education degree from the University of Calgary (UCalgary) can now complete most of the program at Lakeland College’s Lloydminster campus thanks to an enhanced partnership. Lakeland and the UCalgary Werklund School of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provides a framework to deliver UCalgary’s community-based Bachelor of Education (BEd) program to Lakeland’s university transfer students. The community-based BEd program will allow Lakeland students the opportunity to train to be a teacher, complete practicums

and launch their teaching career all in Lloydminster. “We know there is an appetite for education degrees with our students. We’re thrilled to offer a community-based option for them to achieve their goals by transferring their Lakeland credits to Werklund School of Education to earn a UCalgary degree,” says Jackie Bender, dean of university transfer and foundational learning at Lakeland. “Providing our students with more degree completion options is one of Lakeland’s priorities. Being able to provide this degree completion pathway at the Lloydminster campus is exciting as our region will retain and benefit from quality educators.” The four-year BEd program allows students to remain in Lloydminster for the

majority of their studies, while receiving instruction and advisory support from UCalgary. Students will gain teaching experience locally through 20 weeks of field experience practicum placements. Lakeland students can transfer up to 57 credits to the program. “The collaboration between Lakeland College and the Werklund School is just one example of the ways in which postsecondary institutions can come together for the betterment of students and their communities,” highlights Amy Burns, associate-dean of Undergraduate Programs at the Werklund School of Education. “By providing a pathway for Lakeland students to enter UCalgary’s community-based BEd degree, we can ensure students are receiving a high quality, robust educational experience

with excellent instructional and experiential opportunities on par with our on-campus program, while allowing students to remain in and positively impact their home communities.” Both Lakeland and Werklund School of Education will also work together to support applicants during the admissions process and throughout the program, as per the MOU. Together, both will also seek opportunities for funding support for students admitted into the program. More than 50 of Lakeland’s university transfer courses were recently reviewed and approved for credit by UCalgary. Lakeland has negotiated credit transfer options with a number of universities across Western Canada and beyond.

There was muc h excitement at St. Jerome’s as we prepared for Easter this year! Grade 5 & 6 students in Mrs. Molsberry’s class decorated real pysanky eggs using wax and candles. Her students loved this unique experience and they turned out beautifully. Mrs. McCormack continued her yearly tradition of making Easter buns with her class. For this activity, students use a marshmallow, to symbolize the body of Jesus. Then, students wrap bun dough around the marshmallow to symbolize the tomb in which Jesus was placed. After sprinkling the buns with a “healthy” amount of cinnamon and sugar they are baked. The students always love when they get to break into their warm delicious bun to discover that the marshmallow is gone, which symbolizes the third day when Jesus had risen and was no longer in the tomb. Of course, students love this hands-on and delicious activity to learn about the Easter story. Thank you

Mrs. McCormack! Gymnastics Day is an annual tradition at St. Jerome’s School. Normally, our school “houses” spend weeks practicing and preparing for the big day, where they compete in swedish drills and pyramids. As we have said many times this year, due to Covid we had to make some changes to the format of our gymnastics day. Although it was different, it was still an exciting day filled with fun and competition. This year students had to complete various “challenges” with their grade level house teams. There were scavenger hunts, a competition to see who could build the tallest popsicle stick tower, egg and spoon races, balloon tossing, and much more. Students earned points for their house, and although it was a hard fought battle and a tight race, McKenzie came out on top as the victors this year. Well done everyone! On April 15 & 16 we used Zoom to tune in to our annual Farm Safety Presentations. The presenter, Carol Senz, did a wonderful job keeping students engaged throughout the presentation using storytelling with props, videos, and demonstra-

tions. Our students enjoyed it thoroughly and will be better prepared to stay safe on the farm. We have received many kind donations as of late, and we need to recognize these generous individuals. A big thank you to Tannis Henderson, owner of Elevation, for her donation of new cloth masks to each classroom, for use in case a student forgets theirs. Thank you for your thoughtful generosity Tannis! Also, Yvonne Hynek graciously donated towards our “Feed the

Hungry Program” which provides healthy food to students. Thank you for helping our students have full tummies so that they can focus on their learning at school. Lastly, Nick’s Restaurant donated a hot, homemade macaroni lunch for each grade one student at St. Jerome’s. The students thought it was delicious, and a wonderful treat! Thank you Nick!
