Published semiannually by the Marian Foundation, Innovations is intended to share insights on the newest and latest advances in health care for Marian patients and families. We also wish to acknowledge our many generous friends and community partners. Marian may be the newest hospital on the Central Coast, but to us good health care is more than a new building. It’s a promise to provide our community with exceptional medicine, today and every day. It’s about advancing the newest, most innovative treatments and technology to heal patients young and old.

Letter from th e Presi d ent Dear Friends of Marian, We are pleased to share with you this year’s first Innovations magazine, a publication of the Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation. In this issue and future editions, we are proud to share with you significant Marian accomplishments, new services, important programs and groundbreaking technologies. We have had quite a remarkable and memorable journey over the past 12 months and it was this time last year when we were completing the construction of the new Marian Regional Medical Center - one of the most recognizable buildings in the Santa Maria Valley. The building, in fact, was recently honored with the Best Safety Award by ENR California, the leading source of information on construction news and projects in the state, and was selected for its architectural features and design to be featured in Heathcare Design, a national health care building trends magazine. While the new hospital’s mission-style architectural design and incredible views complement the Santa Maria Valley, we are most proud of what is happening inside the building. It is our nurses, health care professionals, volunteers and physicians from top medical schools and training programs that assure safe, high-quality, compassionate care is provided to each patient every single day. Since opening approximately eight months ago, we continue to receive incredibly positive feedback and stories of appreciation from patients and families about the superior care provided in our modern, state-of-the-art-facility. In this issue, you will learn about the remarkable transformation of Emergency Department care, which has resulted in our patient satisfaction scores elevating Marian to the top percentile in patient satisfaction among all Dignity Health hospitals. In addition, you will also read about Newborn Intensive Care Unit services and the newly-opened Marian Perinatal Center to provide the highest level of comprehensive maternal and fetal care available on the Central Coast. This new outpatient center focuses on providing care for the special needs of women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy and is just one of the many reasons mothers are choosing Marian for their maternity care. We are also pleased to share with you the details of our new Weight Loss Surgery Institute of the Central Coast, the area’s only comprehensive weight loss (bariatric) surgery program. Through program development, advanced surgical technology and modern equipment designed to accommodate obese patients, Central Coast community members can now have bariatric surgery here at home, rather than hundreds of miles away. In future Innovations publications, we look forward to updating you on the continued recruitment of expert specialists, implementation of specialties not previously offered, such as hand surgery, daVinci robotic surgery, imaging, and advances in oncology care and treatment at Mission Hope Cancer Center. Your unprecedented generosity in support of Marian’s new technologies, facility, programs and services directly benefit the lives and health of our patients and community. A M i racle Agai nst All O d ds Marian’s Tiniest Neonatal Success Story Baby Ellie Moomey came into the world on August 11, 2012 at just 25 weeks of gestation and weighing only one pound, 15 ounces. She is Marian Regional Medical Center’s youngest and smallest birth-weight baby ever to be discharged. “She was so small, she could fit in the palm of my hand,” recalls Brittany Moomey, baby Ellie’s mother. “It was so surreal to see our little girl in such a fragile state, and we were extremely concerned about what the uncertain future held for her.” After a routine prenatal doctor’s appointment, Brittany’s physician realized that she could go into preterm labor at any moment. Brittany was immediately admitted to Marian’s eight-bed Antepatum Unit for high-risk pregnant patients who require hospital monitoring prior to delivery. There, Brittany’s and unborn Ellie’s condition was monitored 24-hours-a-day. Just three days after admission, Brittany went into premature labor – 15 weeks before her scheduled due date. Baby Ellie’s father, Staff Sergeant James Moomey, was reassigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base in January 2010 and, shortly after relocating to their new home in Lompoc, the young couple experienced a devastating miscarriage. Following the loss of their first pregnancy, James was deployed to Kuwait for the majority of 2011. When they learned of their second pregnancy after his return to the States, both husband and wife were overjoyed to begin their long-awaited family. Although they knew the pregnancy would be considered high-risk, they never thought that their little girl would battle a collapsed lung, severe infections and need to depend on life-saving neonatal technology and medical expertise for weeks on end to survive. Fortunately for the Moomey Family, Marian’s Maternal & Newborn Center team is staffed with physicians from the nation’s most esteemed medical schools and the highest trained nursing professionals who specialize in high-risk deliveries and remain committed to improving the health and well being of Marian’s smallest patients. In addition, Marian’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is equipped with the latest in stateof-the-art, life-saving neonatal technology. “Babies born as early as 25 weeks and weighing less than two pounds, as Ellie was, face some challenges and must overcome

hardships,” explains Mary Richards, RN, Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist and Marian’s NICU Director. “Our job as the NICU Team is to guide families through this difficult process and provide the highest level of medical care to achieve the best outcomes possible. There is no greater reward than seeing our critically-ill infants thrive and improve to the point where they are healthy enough to go home. Being a part of this amazing process is emotional – emotional for the family and emotional for the staff. But when our patients succeed, we succeed, and the gratification of helping families is beyond words.” Baby Ellie spent her first three months of life in Marian’s NICU. Throughout this time, Brittany and James spent countless hours in Marian’s 21-bed unit where the staff supported the

family every step of the way, from family care conferences about Ellie’s progress to lactation consultations and even emotional support. The new parents say they are grateful for the expertise, compassion and care shown by all Marian’s Obstetrics and NICU staff and developed a strong bond with their nurses and physicians. “If parents find themselves in the frightening situation of having their new baby in a NICU, as we did, you can’t ask for a better team of professionals. The NICU nurses and all the staff are top of the line,” confides James. “Marian’s NICU caregivers have truly become an extension of our family. There were many days we arrived to the unit in tears and fearful of uncertainty, but due to their care and support, we left with smiles.” On November 20, 2012 baby Ellie was discharged from Marian’s Neonatal ICU and made it home just in time for her first Thanksgiving. As she was discharged, proud parents Brittany and James hugged and thanked Marian’s NICU staff members who had become their second family. The new parents then went home with their now healthy, five-pound baby girl, describing the experience as bittersweet and worth the wait. “Ellie has triumphed over challenges against all odds. We can’t express enough how meaningful and amazing our experience has been,” explains Brittany. “We are so fortunate and thankful for all those at Marian who worked with us and Ellie to bring her home happy and healthy.”

Marian Earns Esteemed Accreditation as a CCS-Approved Provider: Another step in furthering excellence in neonatal and pediatric care In Fall 2012, Marian Regional Medical Center officially received final accreditation as a Community Level Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Community Hospital facility from California Children’s Services (CCS), a branch of California Department of Health Services. The recent CCS accreditation is the highest level of recognition for neonatal and pediatric services, certifying that Marian has the advanced capabilities to care for the sickest and most vulnerable infants. CCS-approved Community Level Centers provide a full range of neonatal and pediatric services (intensive, intermediate and continuing) for severely ill neonates and infants. “Approximately 10 to 15 percent of all babies born in the United States require treatment in a Newborn ICU and for the small

Introducing the Newly Opened Marian Perinatal Center In the fall of 2012, Marian Regional Medical Center opened the Marian Perinatal Center to further the facility’s commitment to providing the highest level of comprehensive maternal and fetal care. The Marian Perinatal Center is an outpatient clinic setting that focuses on providing for the special needs of women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. This may include women who are at risk for pre-term delivery; expecting twins or multiples; have experienced previous miscarriages; or have a family history of genetic disease, gestational diabetes or complications in previous pregnancies. Led by Medical Director and Perinatologist Laurence Shields, M.D., the new outpatient clinic provides specialized care for pregnant women with circumstances that require extra medical attention. The Marian Perinatal Center’s services include maternal and fetal assessment, advanced fetal genetic testing, antepartum testing, and ultrasound diagnosis using state-of-the-art 4-D technology. The new Marian Perinatal Center is also home to Marian’s Sweet Success Program for patients with diabetes or gestational diabetes.

percentage of babies that are transferred out of the area, traveling is an especially difficult hardship for families,” explains Edward Alderete, M.D., Medical Director of Neonatology Services at Marian. “In times of crisis, it is vital for infants, when ready, to be brought back to their local facility in order to keep families together as much as possible.” The new accreditation will provide families with high-risk infant follow-up care, and will also ensure that babies who need to be transported out of the area will be transported back to Marian; allowing families to remain with their child on the Central Coast.

Em erg ency M ed i ci n e Transform ed A New Era of Innovation No one expects a crisis. And when seconds count, Marian Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department is prepared for the unexpected 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each and every day, Marian’s bustling Emergency Department sees nearly 200 patients. This translates on average to more than 5,000 patients a month and more than 60,000 patients every year. With the highest volume of patients throughout Santa Barbara and neighboring San Luis Obispo County, Marian’s Emergency Department is well-equipped to handle the most critical cases. The Emergency Services team receives a large number of trauma patients and much of the area’s most complicated cases. Over time, Marian has transformed from a community hospital to a large, regional medical center. As such, Marian’s new facility was designed to provide for the complex, dynamic and ever-changing environment of emergency medicine for future generations to come, offering the most advanced life-saving technology and highest level of clinical services. “With thousands of patients coming through our doors every month, we as caregivers are continuously evaluating Emergency Department care processes and making improvements,” explains David Ketelaar, M.D., Co-Medical Director of Marian’s Emergency Department. “Since opening the new

hospital in May (of 2012), patients continue to remark about the many positive aspects of the new Emergency Department, specifically improved privacy due to our private patient rooms and our improved wait times.” Currently when Emergency Department beds are open, patients are triaged to an exam room without delay, and registration is conveniently done at the patient’s bedside. This new registration option has recently earned Marian the highest patient satisfaction rating throughout the entire Dignity Health system for emergency registration processes. In addition, on average, patients are placed in an exam room just minutes after arrival and are seen by a provider in less than 30 minutes. This significant decrease in patient wait times is due in large part to the new Emergency Department’s streamlined front end processes that rapidly place patients in exam rooms and allow staff to effectively treat and release patients in a reduced amount of time. With the new Emergency Department design, Marian can now do things that weren’t possible in the former facility; such as having multiple experienced registered nurses stationed in the lobby entrance to assess and triage all patients entering the department. Marian’s former Emergency Department lobby had a single nurse station in the front lobby area and did not provide much privacy for patients. Now, the new Emergency Department’s design and additional exam rooms allows for two registered nurses to be stationed in the lobby entrance, utilizing three private triage rooms. One nurse is dedicated to immediately evaluating all patients with life-threatening or possible life-threatening conditions and the other solely evaluates and prioritizes incoming patients with non-serious conditions. “Our Emergency Department RNs stationed in the lobby entrance offer a high level of expertise, allowing us to more efficiently move patients into treatment rooms by effectively recognizing when patients require time-sensitive treatment – this is key for treating patients suffering from life-threatening cardiac events or other acute illnesses. Ultimately, this improved process streamlines quality and safety and translates into saving lives,” adds Dr. Ketelaar.

The CT Scanner reduces radiation to the patient by 40–50 percent and also features a stroke and cardiac package to address the time-critical treatment of patients experiencing a cardiac event.

Another highlight of the new Emergency Department is patients’ access to the department’s dedicated imaging services including a 64-slice CT scanner (featuring special stroke and cardiac imaging capabilities) and a digital radiology room. “Having dedicated imaging services within an emergency department is rare. This unique offering is essential when it comes to treating patients in a reduced amount of time, but it is also remarkable because it speaks volumes to new physician recruits,” explains Todd Bailey, M.D., Co-Medical Director of Marian’s Emergency Department. “We receive physician applications from all over the nation, and prospective physicians are impressed because having dedicated imaging services illustrates Marian’s level of commitment in providing the best in care and service. This in turn, allows the medical center to recruit the most qualified physicians from the country’s most prestigious medical training programs with exemplary credentials and wide-ranging expertise.”

Looking to the Future: Trauma Center Designation As the only facility in northern Santa Barbara County with a helipad-landing site and through the development of specialty clinical services including obstetrics, neonatology and cardiac care, Marian is now a receiving center for patients from other Central Coast hospitals.

With the opening of the new, state-of-the-art hospital and expanded Emergency Department, Marian now has the physical facility means that will allow for the increased patient demand required for Trauma Center Designation. Marian has already submitted the Medical Center’s comprehensive application to the County of Santa Barbara, and is anticipating an on-site evaluation, and expects to receive official Level III Trauma Center Designation in early 2013. As a designated Level III Trauma Center, Marian Regional Medical Center will have resources to specialists for emergency resuscitation, surgery and intensive care for trauma patients. In addition, designated Level III Trauma Centers have transfer agreements with Level I and Level II Centers that provide back-up resources for the care of exceptionally severe injuries. Marian has also put together a team of experienced specialists including trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians and nurses who are skilled in trauma services. Lisa Abeloe, RN, Marian’s Trauma Services Coordinator, further explains, “Earning Trauma Center Designation will not only improve care for trauma and emergency patients, but it will also allow patients in other areas access to top-notch specialists and will elevate the quality of care for all.”

Effective Wei g ht Loss Su rg ery Ri g ht H ere at Hom e Severe obesity is a complex, chronic disease with many causes and no simple solution. Weight loss (bariatric) surgery is currently the best treatment option for success when more conservative methods have failed. Central Coast patients can now stay here on the Central Coast for treatment, rather than traveling hundreds of miles away. Marian Regional Medical Center now offers a new service at its Weight Loss Surgery Institute of the Central Coast, where patients can get the surgical weight loss they need, locally. The results of weight loss surgery are far reaching. In fact, bariatric surgery for diabetes control has been named among the nation’s top medical innovations for 2013. According to a recent Cleveland Clinic report, new research shows that weight-loss surgery can help control diabetes when medicine cannot. The report found that many diabetes experts now believe that weight-loss surgery should no longer be offered as a last resort, but instead be offered much earlier as a reasonable treatment option for patients with poorly controlled diabetes. Weight loss surgery is not only effective in reducing weight, but studies show that it can also cure diseases. The benefits

include loss of 40 to 80 percent of excess weight within the first year; partial or total relief from weight-related high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, diabetes, and arthritis; and a better overall health. Led by Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgeon David Maccabee ,M.D., our program integrates medically supervised weight loss, a dedicated full-time bariatric nurse coordinator, dietician, pharmacy, rehabilitation/wellness center, and medical specialists from every specialty to provide complete care for every patient.

Janet Davila, RN

Perinatal/Women’s Health Nurse Education Coordinator

Janet Davila Known as a beloved women’s health and birthing nurse educator, Janet’s giving spirit, unconditional compassion and love of health education, has made her a respected community resource for women of all ages, new parents and their babies. Janet is heralded as a community leader for her commitment to helping cancer patients through the local Relay for Life and other fundraising events. Whether she is teaching new moms the benefits of breastfeeding or rallying the community in support of cancer patients, Janet’s positive nature, lifetime of countless accomplishments and tireless devotion to the betterment of others’ lives is legendary, making her a genuine inspiration to all.

Ann Marsalek Throughout her distinguished tenure of more than 40 years at Marian, Ann has devotedly served patients as an RN and administrative nursing leader. Ann’s strong leadership abilities have continued to elevate her to greater areas of responAnn Marsalek, RN sibility and ultimately earned Former Emergency Services her the title of Senior Director Director & Patient Care of Patient Care Services in Services Senior Director 2011. As one of Marian’s longest serving nurse leaders, Ann has become a respected figure of guidance for nursing staff and is now greatly missed, as she retired in December.

Sister Patricia Rayburn, O.S.F. As the current Provincial Minister of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, Sister Patricia Rayburn is faithfully committed to continuing the giving legacy of the Sisters of Saint Francis. Throughout Sister Patricia Rayburn, O.S.F. the construction of the new Provincial Minister, Sisters of hospital, Sister Pat helped Saint Francis & Dignity Health Sponsorship Council Chair oversee new hospital chapel and building details to incorporate and preserve the heritage of the Sisters of Saint Francis. She also served on the New Hospital Dedication Event Planning Committee and was greatly involved in the design of the Tau Tower Monument. Sister Pat’s contributions to the new hospital will forever serve as a lasting tribute to the Sisters of Saint Francis, honoring their tireless work and healing ministry.

Cruzi n’ for Li fe Grassroots Event Raises Money for Local Cancer Patients

There are oftentimes many hardships facing cancer patients and their families. Some of these hardships include finances to cover needs that aren’t covered by insurance, such as living expenses, mortgage payments, transportation and childcare. This is why we are so grateful for Clifford Labastida and the Cruzin’ for Life event. Since its inception, this homegrown event has raised money in support of cancer patients and cancer research. To date, it has raised $364,000 for patients served at Marian Cancer Care. Founded in 2004, Cruzin’ for Life was the brainchild of Clifford, who recruited family and friends to join him in raising money in a new and different way, and one that incorporated one of his passions: cars. The event has grown from a cruise through Old Orcutt followed by a dinner and auction in the St. Joseph High School gym to a three-day event at the Santa Maria Fairpark.

Each year’s event continues to center around classic cars and hotrods, but it has expanded to include offerings for the whole family as well as a special cruise down Broadway for cancer survivors. The 2012 event was the biggest yet— it lasted an entire weekend and included a well-received concert.

The Cruzin’ for Life Board of Directors is made entirely up of volunteers, each with strong ties to the local community. The board members are Clifford Labastida, Bob Labastida, Terri Hayworth, Cindy Alvarado, Marti Borjas, Art and Irene Foster, Robert Bonilla, and Jerami Brazell.

Innovative Osteoporosis Project New Sponsorship for Quality Improvement Project Patients with osteoporosis who have had a fracture are at the highest risk for additional fractures. In fact, a fracture can be lethal for 20 percent of these patients and 50 percent are unable to return to their living situation. That is why follow-up care is not only invaluable, but potentially lifesaving. Mary K. Oates, M.D., Medical Director of the Marian Osteoporosis Center, has been working to implement a system that ensures that these patients receive the follow-up care they need to prevent additional fractures. “Just like having a heart attack can increase the risk of another incident, a fracture for a patient with osteoporosis can be an indication of a risk for a secondary fracture,” Dr. Oates said. While the follow-up process was initially run on a smaller scale from the office of the Marian Osteoporosis Center, an expanded program called Osteoporosis Quality Improvement Project was recently created. A private donor initially provided funds for the project, and most recently, Amgen generously provided a sponsorship of $200,000 for the expansion and continuation of the project. This project is a multiple-facility, integrated program, partnering Marian Regional Medical Center with Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, French Hospital Medical Center, and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital, and bringing together many diverse components in patient care. By including primary care physicians, hospitalists, orthopedic surgeons, and other medical care providers with Information Technology and Quality Improvement Departments, this comprehensive continuity of care ensures that post-fracture patients receive the recommended treatments to reduce the risk of a recurrent fracture. Other similar projects in place elsewhere have received best practice recognition for comprehensive services, and successful ongoing patient follow up. The aim of this project is to create a viable and transferrable system of care within a real-life community setting. “The hope is that if we can show good progress and create a good recipe, the program could be replicated, and other hospitals and their patients could benefit,” said Dr. Oates.

The funds provided by Amgen are being utilized to help determine the best ways and best practices for bringing together the many different departments and services that are needed to ensure that recurrent fractures are prevented.

Volunteers Achieve New Service Milestones Record numbers of volunteers are serving in more ways than ever before at the new Marian Regional Medical Center. With the transition into the new hospital in May of last year, the needs for volunteers expanded to include new service opportunities and extended hours. The growing need to fill the additional roles and the additional hours meant new volunteers were needed, and the response so far has been wonderful.

“We’re extremely proud of our volunteers, an extraordinary group of people who willingly share their time, talents, and inspiration. They are an integral part of the day-to-day operations of the hospital,” said Ami Padilla, Manager of Marian Volunteer Services. “And they touch the lives of Marian patients, families, and staff each and every day.”

Volunteer Spotlight — Pam Von Bieberstein Pam moved to Santa Maria in April 2012, and because she was new to the area and didn’t know many people in the community, she decided to volunteer at Marian. She gives her time as a Nursing Support Volunteer on the third floor of the new hospital, which houses the Maternal and Newborn Center and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, in addition to serving as a training lead on the third floor. “I love my role in nursing support as well as my role as a training lead for new volunteers,” said Pam. “It’s so rewarding getting to be around all of the babies so much. It makes my volunteer experience so meaningful to see the unconditional love for these new little lives.” Through her service, Pam demonstrates the dedication typical of the volunteers at Marian. Robert is a member of the Marian Medical Staff, specializing in Hematology/ Oncology, and is the medical director of Central Coast Medical Oncology, and Marian Cancer Care at Mission Hope Cancer Center. He serves on the Santa Barbara Cancer Foundation Board and several boards at Marian.

Michael is a certified public accountant at Andrews Galloway & Associates as well as a veteran of the United States Air Force. He has served as president of the Allan Hancock College Foundation and the Rotary Club of Santa Maria, in addition to other local boards and advisory councils.

Laura is an attorney practicing in Santa Maria. She has served as president of the Santa Maria Rotary South and currently serves as a board member for the Special Needs Network and the Childrenâ€™s Resource and Referral of Santa Barbara County.

Denise is a financial advisor at and the owner of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., in Santa Maria. She has also served as a board member on the St. Joseph High School Community Board and the Friends of Waller Park.

The Marian Legacy Society is an association of Marian friends and benefactors who share the same ideals as Marian’s founding Sisters of Saint Francis.

During his lifetime, the late Donald Heinecke made a commitment to leave a legacy to provide for the future care of indigent patients in Santa Maria. As a former grateful Marian patient and donor, he identified Marian Community Clinics as the beneficiary of his family trust. The result of Mr. Heinecke’s generosity is a $600,000 gift to support the Marian Community Clinics in their mission to provide primary health care services to underserved families in the communities of Santa Maria and Guadalupe.

Through the Marian Legacy Society, the Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation expresses gratitude to those who have included Marian in their estate planning. We invite others to become partners in continuing this extraordinary heritage of exceptional medicine—for today and tomorrow. The legacy of his kindness and concern for those less fortunate will endure through the care his gift will support for many years to come. Legacy of Love The Oliveras Establish a Charitable Annuity to Benefit Marian When Joe Olivera received Marian Regional Medical Center’s Distinguished Service Award in 2001, he was commended as the epitome of this nation’s “greatest generation” for his service to Marian and to others. Joe and his lifelong partner and wife of 70 years, Jean, have lived a life that models the values of hard work, integrity, and charity in service to God, family and country. They have spent their lives building a legacy of love for each other, their family and the charitable works of organizations like Marian. It is this spirit of concern for others and the desire to build for the future health care needs of Marian patients and families that prompted the Oliveras to establish a charitable gift annuity to benefit Marian. They chose to fund the annuity with a generous cash contribution that generates a guaranteed rate of return in the form of monthly, quarterly or annual payments that will continue throughout their lifetime. Depending upon the age of the annuitants, the contributor is often guaranteed a rate of return that exceeds more typical fixed instruments like Certificates of Deposit, bond funds or savings accounts. The annuity also provides a significant charitable tax

deduction, and the satisfaction of knowing that in the future, the remnant of the annuity will benefit the patients and families of Marian Regional Medical Center. Joe’s history of service to the Sisters of Saint Francis and their work at Marian spans many decades, starting with his tenure on the Marian Regional Medical Center Board of Directors. He was instrumental in the expansion of the campus to meet the needs of a growing community. He also served as a member and a Chairman of the Foundation Board of Trustees. In addition, Joe led many committees while lending his business expertise and servant’s heart to every important initiative in recent decades. He continues to serve on the Foundation Board as an honorary member. Joe and Jean have spent their lives in loving service to God, family and their community. Many Marian patients and families have benefited significantly from their kindness. Their legacy of love and thoughtful stewardship will live on to benefit future generations of Marian patients.

Alfredo Guitierrez has twice benefited from the expert care of Marianâ€™s Critical Care Unit (CCU). Two years ago, Alfredo was a stroke victim, now fully recovered. This summer, Alfredo was admitted to the CCU for a rare and life-threatening condition. It was unclear whether he would make a full recovery, but with the CCUâ€™s advanced medical care, he is now healthy and at home with those that he loves most.

Marian Donors The Marian Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Marian, a not-for-profit community health care organization. Charitable support continues to play an important role in future of Marian. The Marian Foundation’s 2012 Annual Dinner Good friends, delicious food, and generous support were in abundance at the Marian Foundation’s 2012 Annual Dinner, “An Afternoon at The Gardens at Peacock Farms.” It was a wonderful gathering on Sept. 9 of friends in support of Marian’s beautiful new hospital. Through the generosity of so many individuals, businesses, and organizations, the Foundation was able to provide the hospital with $100,000 in proceeds. This provided the remaining funds needed to fulfill the Foundation’s $17 million capstone effort of the Cornerstone Campaign.
