Verbier is a veritable music mecca in summertime, attracting some of the worldâs best musicians, from the cream of the world of classical music at the Verbier Festival to the alternative experiences offered by the PALP festival. We take a look at some of the options available to you and offer some pointers in our Mountain Music item.
We also highlight some of the great activities you can join in over the warmer months â a great starting point for visitors looking for inspiration, and perhaps a reminder for those living here too: have you ever tried canyoning or the zip line at Mont Fort? Maybe this is the summer to try something new.
Verbier holds a special place in their hearts for many couples, and for some, it is the chosen location for their wedding. We speak to three of Verbierâs top wedding planners and learn what goes on behind the scenes to create a truly memorable destination wedding in the Alps.

âą Verbier has become a very popular choice for destination weddings. Verbier Life meets some of the planners who turn coupleâs dreams into realityâŠ
âą Verbier provides endless enchanting settings for weddings: breathtaking mountain vistas, secluded forest clearings, rustic buildings, meadows of wild flowers â magical backdrops for couples seeking elegance, adventure and authenticity.
But orchestrating a celebration in such an exclusive location comes with its own set of challenges: logistical and local knowledge are key. Thatâs where Verbierâs experienced wedding planners come in: seasoned professionals who seamlessly blend Swiss precision with creative flair, securing the best venues, local chefs and sourcing florists and entertainment to turn each coupleâs individual vision into reality.
I love that every wedding is so unique and every couple has different aspirations. Itâs all small things that make it so special.
What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your work âespecially in a mountain setting?
The weather! You hope the initial plan will work out, but you need to be able adapt.
Is there a particular wedding or moment that stands out in your memory?
I did have one experience when the bride was nearly 30 minutes late as there was a traffic jam whilst local cows were being moved. But we never forget weâre in the mountains, respect that and adapt to the logistical challenges of our environment. We got some great photos from it! The bride was American and owned cattle back home, so embraced the experience.
Whatâs the most challenging experience you have to deal with?
When someone completely changes their plans at the last minute and we have to rejig all the pieces of the puzzle. Sometimes we can work on a wedding for over a year and a half, only to have everything change a few weeks before the date; but itâs all part of the job.
What time of year would you recommend for a Verbier wedding?
I love September weddings, great weather and lovely light. Otherwise, any time of year except May to mid-June when fewer venues are open and the weather is unpredictable.
Have you got any advice/practical tips for couples planning a Verbier wedding?
Make sure they love their ceremony location: there are so many stunning options. and have an excellent photographer to capture it all⊠www.rsvpverbier.com
Thereâs something magical about planning celebrations in Verbier. The energy, the views, the fresh mountain air - it all makes you feel like youâre on top of the world. No two weddings are ever the same, and thatâs what I love.
Biggest challenges?
The mountains are a special place, but the weather conditions can change quickly and sometimes throw in a few surprises. As long as you have a Plan B and even a Plan C, everything will be fine - and whatever the weather, Verbier always delivers its magic.
A stand-out wedding moment?
Iâve always worked in events and luxury hospitality, but after planning my own wedding weekend, I knew I wanted to keep creating incredible celebrations full of fun and love!
Most challenging experience?
A groom and his best man forgot their suits in an airport loungewith only 24 hours to find new ones! We pulled it off, and funnily enough, the bride preferred the replacements to the originals.
Recommended time of year?
I love June - long, light days and stunning mountain flowers everywhere you look. But a snowy December wedding has a special charm too. It really depends on the coupleâs style and vision.
Advice?
Think about the flow of the day or weekend - how it affects the venues, entertainment, catering and everything in between. Iâm big on getting the flow just right, so everything feels effortless so the couple and their guests can relax and enjoy every moment.
Itâs such a joy to connect with couples who share a reverence for Verbier and its natural beauty. I love bringing their vision to life, surpassing expectations and creating breathtaking moments.
Biggest challenges?
Logistics in a mountain setting can be complex. I love creating outdoor events, but the challenge is always the weather. And then there are the sacred cows⊠their grazing spots are not confirmed until about a month before the wedding. This adds a unique twist when planning a year in advance!
A stand-out wedding moment?
The first ski wedding I planned in 2014 will always hold a special place in my heart. The couple and the priest skied down the aisle between hand-carved tiers of snow seating for 100 guests. It was pure mountain magic and unlike anything anyone had seen before.
Most challenging experience?
The uncertainty and ever-changing restrictions during the pandemic years. Nothing has come close to those challenges in my 16+ years of wedding planning and it has certainly made me stronger....
Recommended time of year?
Each season in Verbier brings its own kind of magic and colour. For larger weddings - summer and winter offer the widest choice of reception venues and hotels and offer more stable weather conditions. There are more outdoor spaces and options for very large gatherings (100â300+ guests) in summer and winter is wonderful for cosy, winter-wonderland gatherings and ski-loving guests! Otherwise, many fabulous chalets and intimate venues are available throughout the year.
Advice?
Confirm the venues well in advance to allow enough time to block and book hotel rooms for your guests, be content with your alternative weather plans but, most of all... stay true to what is meaningful to you.

âą Loris Michellod discovered downhill biking at just eight years old. âSince then my passion for the sport has kept growing,â he says. Adapting to changing snow levels, bike parks in mountain locations have swiftly filled the gap, extending the downhill season. âSwiss bike parks now offer a wide range of options for all levels.â This shift has opened the door to a new generation of riders. âMore and more young people are getting into the sport,â Loris notes with enthusiasm, âtechnological advances are producing increasingly high-performance bikes enabling us to continuously push boundaries.â
Lorisâs training is a year-round commitment, blending time in the gym with road biking, enduro, and downhill sessions. Despite undergoing four knee operations, including cruciate ligament and meniscus repairs, and multiple shoulder dislocations, Loris has always done the hard work in the gym and with the AST physiotherapists to come back stronger and more resilient. âItâs a long-term process, but Iâve always had the support I needed to return to competition,â he says. âAfter an injury-free 2024 and a strong winter prep, Iâm in great shape going into the 2025 season. Ready to give it my all!â
Loris also has his eyes set on the Enduro World Championships in Aletsch. After more than a decade focused on downhill, he finds himself increasingly drawn to the endurance and technical demands of enduro racing. âIf I want to be selected, Iâll need to break into the worldâs top 30 and rank among the best Swiss in the World Cups,â he explains.
This summer, Valais will take centre stage as it hosts the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, the first time in the history of the championships that all events for all disciplines will take place in the same region at the same time. Verbier will be the starting point of the Mountain Bike marathon on September 6, within the framework of the Grand Raid, âItâs an incredible opportunity to see all the disciplines here in our region, especially the marathon on the legendary Grand Raid course.â
The championships have also inspired meaningful long-term local initiatives, âThe Valais Cycling Federation is promoting cycling in schools and supporting the growth of womenâs participation in the sport and, with a view to the future, the newly launched Valais Cycling Academy 2025 aims to identify, support and train the next generation of talent through a structured performance programme,â Loris says.
Loris is however candid about the hurdles ahead. Despite its popularity, downhill biking remains outside the Olympic sphere, making funding and access to international competition a persistent challenge.
On a personal level, for now, Loris is focused on what he can control: staying fit, staying fast, and chasing the finish line âwherever the trail may lead.

âą Both the Lac des Vaux and the Lac de Louvie are stocked with rainbow trout for summer fishing. A permit is required. Please check with the tourist office for conditions and information on purchasing a permit.
âą Verbier has two 18-hole courses to keep the golfers busy. Les Esserts course (par 69, 4,857 m long), known for its technicality, and the Moulins pitch and putt (18-hole, par 54), ideal for players wanting to work on their technique. www.verbiergolfclub.ch
âą With an extensive network of trails suitable for all levels this is an obvious activity, but there are numerous âunobviousâ but clearly signposted routes to explore! For a relaxed flat walk, try Le Bisse du Levron, a 12-km trail along a 15th-century irrigation channel, offering panoramic views and ending at the stunning âChute du Bisseâ waterfall. You need to be a bit more of a mountain goat for the Sentier des Chamois (Chamois Path), a challenging hike of three to four hours from La Chaux across the high flanks of the Bec des Rosses and through the Col Termin for a truly memorable overnight stay at the Cabane de Louvie. Trail maps and information are available from the Verbier Tourist Office. Consider hiring a guide to learn more about the local fauna and flora. cherrieswalks.com.
âą Take a dip in the cool, still water of a mountain lake on a warm summer day and you will fully understand the meaning of the word âinvigoratingâ. The Lac de Vaux can be reached easily from Verbier, hiking down from the top of the Chaux-Express chairlift and returning to Verbier through the Col de Mines. Alternatively, take your swimming costume with you on the Sentier des Chamois trail (see âHikingâ paragraph above) and immerse yourself in the cerulean waters of the Lac de Louvie.
I was born here, but I now live in Lourtier. From there I can see the RaclettâHouse Chez Eddy at Bruson and, when the road isnât under two metres of mud, I can go there.
Breakfast stop?
My mate Dante at Offshore does a good one.
Your favourite summer activity?
Head up to Bruson, do a couple of short paraglide flights to see my friend, Antoine, at the Cabane Brunet for a pint of âBlanche de Brunetâ which I receive in return for my graphic design services, then descend back into the beautiful Haut Val de Bagnes.
I have hidden an artwork in the mountains that will surely never be found.
One thing to avoid?
If there were but one...
Donât missâŠ
The Verbier Kermesse (market and street party), the resortâs most long-lived event, and, if you like a bit of AC/DC, thereâs a concert from 9pm on July 31.
Who would you share a fondue with?
Albert Maret, Tony Iommi, Jean Tinguely, Hans Erni, Jimi Hendrix, Eddy Baillifard and all my mates.
1 packet or bunch of fresh coriander (approx. 20 g)
1 red onion, finely chopped
Juice of 1 lime
100 ml quality virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 ripe avocados, sliced (for serving)
Prawns
500 g peeled raw prawns
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for brushing
œ teaspoon fresh chilli
Πteaspoon black pepper
Πteaspoon sea salt
Method:
âą Gazpacho - Combine all gazpacho ingredients, except the avocado, in a blender (do this in batches according to the size of your blender). Blend on high speed until very smooth. Taste and adjust, if necessary, by adding salt or lime juice. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Prawns - Combine all the prawn ingredients in a medium bowl. Light the grill to medium heat or place a grill pan over medium heat. Once hot, brush surface of grill grate or pan with a little oil. Place the prawns in the pan or on the grill and cook until pink and firm (about 2 minutes per side). These can be served warm or cold as preferred.
To serve: Ladle the gazpacho soup into chilled bowls then place the avocado slices and even portions of the grilled prawns on top.
Wine
âą Marcus Bratter nous propose un voyage dans le vignoble bourguignon...
âą Marcus Bratter suggests a journey through the Burgundy vineyardsâŠ
âą Pinot Noir is one of the most planted grape types in Switzerland, with over three and a half thousand hectares of vineyards. Not only here in Valais, but also in the Swiss-German cantons, Pinot Noir produces some of Switzerlandâs best reds. It is also often blended with Gamay to produce DĂŽle, a local favourite. However, Pinot Noir is not an indigenous variety here: its origins are in the north-east of France and reach the âsummumâ of excellence in Burgundy where, along with Chardonnay, it is the predominantly planted vine.
A short four-hour drive from Verbier, Burgundy is a tight strip of vineyards stretching down the banks of the RhĂŽne River from Dijon to just south of Chagny.
One of the best ways to see these âclimatsâ is to jump on a bicycle and ride the well-marked bike trail stretching from Dijon to Chagny, winding its way through all these famous villages, providing a firsthand view of the vines, the people and the animals looking after them. Rent a bike in either Dijon or Beaune and head out for a great day of gentle hills and beautiful views, interspersed with dreamlike villages which beckon you for lunch.
The route is well signposted and not difficult: we did it on a mix of electric and road bikes and it was a perfect day out. You can even finish up on the Canal du Centre, a 112 km-long canal built in 1793 with a great cycling road along its banks. We started in Beaune and headed south to Chassagne-Montrachet and on to Chagny and the canal, but you can also start in Dijon for over 80 km of vineyard riding.
Electric bikes are nice but not really necessary if you have some experience. You can also catch the train back to Dijon, Beaune or Chagny or even Chalon-sur-SaĂŽne if you do the canal.
