ere comes the day of the Joker. Todd Phillips is looking for strike two with Joker: Folie à deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix and a spectacular Lady Gaga. Will the sequel earn Phillips his second Golden Lion? Coming up against it in the main Competition is Diva Futura by ItalianTexan actress and filmmaker Giulia Louise Steigerwalt: the story of the famous porn talent scout Riccardo Schicchi, played by Pietro Castellitto. There’s one actor that we can tell wouldn’t mind bringing home a Lion, we are talking of Vincent Lindon, who plays the part of a widowed father in The Quiet Son by sister-and-sister filmmaking duo Delphine and Muriel Coulin. A meaningful entry in the Orizzonti section, given the latest crisis in the Middle East, is a film by Palestinian director Scandar Copti: Happy Holidays, a sociological thriller walking the fine line between truth and lie. Alex Ross Perry dedicates his doc/biopic Pavements to the Pavement – the Californian indie rock band. In the Orizzonti Extra line-up, Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo is the debut feature of Egyptian filmmaker Khaled Mansour, with the Rambo in question being the protagonist’s dog. In the Classics section, we shall see Anthony Mann’s glorious western Bend of the River of 1952, starring James Stewart. The International Film Critics’ Week programme for today lists black comedy Paul & Paulette Take a Bath by English filmmaker Jethro Massey, while the Venice Days programme has a family drama, Alpha., by the Dutch JanWillem van Ewijk.

venne il giorno di Joker: Folie à deux, con cui Todd Phillips ritenta il colpaccio del Leone d’Oro dopo il Joker del 2019: accanto a Joaquin Phoenix una pirotecnica Lady Gaga (cachet da 12 milioni di dollari) nel ruolo della psichiatra criminale Harley Quinn, tra le più celebri antagoniste della saga batmaniana. A fronteggiarlo in gara Diva Futura della italo-texana e già attrice Giulia Louise Steigerwalt, storia della celebre agenzia del porno creata da Riccardo Schicchi (Pietro Castellitto) ricavata da un romanzo della sua segretaria Debora Attanasio, con Denise Capezza e Lidija Kordić nei panni (si fa per dire...) rispettivamente di Moana Pozzi e Ilona “Cicciolina” Staller. Ambisce certamente a un premio anche il tormentato Vincent Lindon, padre single di due figli problematici in Jouer avec le feu (The Quiet Son) delle sorelle francesi Delphine e Muriel Coulin. Nel pieno della nuova crisi mediorientale significativa in Orizzonti la presenza del palestinese Scandar Copti con Happy Holidays, thriller sociologico tra verità e menzogna. Alex Ross Perry dedica invece il doc/biopic Pavements all’omonima (ma senza la “s”) band indie rock californiana. Tra gli Orizzonti Extra, Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, opera prima dell’egiziano Khaled Mansour, dove Rambo è il cane del protagonista... Per i Classici si rivedrà il leggendario e sontuoso western Là dove scende il fiume (Bend of the River, 1952) di Anthony Mann con James Stewart. Nella SIC tocca alla commedia nera Paul & Paulette Take a Bath dell’inglese Jethro Massey e nelle Giornate al dramma familiare montanaro Alpha . dell’olandese Jan-Willem van Ewijk.
