The meeting focussed on surgically avertable deaths and disability among children, especially in low and middle income countries through early intervention, local empowerment, training, research, networking, and advocacy for national surgical policies. Paediatric surgical professionals and agencies, actively involved in various aspects of children’s surgery from all
over the world came together to discuss the current status of global paediatric surgery and develop an ‘Optimal Resource document for Children’s Surgery’ (OReCS) and create global consensus on essential surgical care for children for all levels of healthcare in low resource settings. together to network and form working partnerships aimed at improving access to safe, affordable children’s surgery in low resource settings. GICS III meeting laid down a road map for implementation of the Optimal Resources for Children’s Surgery, recommendations for National Surgical Plans incorporating children’s surgery, geospatial mapping of access to children’s surgery, global research collaborations for neonatal and children’s surgery. Workshops conducted focused on establishing bellwether procedures for neonatal and children’s surgery, research and children’s surgical specialities.
CME on Regional Anaesthesia & Cadaveric Workshop organised The Department of Anaesthesia conducted a one day CME on Regional Anaesthesia & Cadaveric workshop on 20th January, 2018 at CHTC Auditorium and Anatomy Dissection Hall. The focus of the CME and the workshop was to highlight the importance of safety and scientific practice of regional anaesthesia across all categories of practitioners. The Chairperson for the event was Dr. Sajan Philip George, who briefed the participants on the workshop. Dr. Anita Shirley Joselyn, was the organising secretary and Dr. Serina Ruth Salins was part of the scientific committee. The participants benefitted from the series of lectures, discussions and activities which were a vital part of the workshop. The scientific session which took place in the morning was packed with informative lectures by internal and external faculty. This was followed by a Cadaveric Workshop where the gross anatomy pertaining to regional anaesthesia blocks were demonstrated by the anatomists. Volunteers from the department took a session on Ultrasonographic correlation of the anatomy. The workshop proved to be highly informative and was well appreciated by all.
Congratulations! Dr. Nihal Thomas, Professor, Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism has been recommended to be awarded the 2018 World India Diabetes Foundation Outstanding Investigator Award at the International Symposium on Diabetes at Mumbai on 13th to 14th January, 2018 by the International Committee (Dr. Robert Rizza-Mayo, Edward Horton-Harvard and John Wahren-Karolinska Institute). This award is in honor of Mr. Raman Kapur (Chair, WIDF Board).

Obituary Mrs. Amudha Janet Hemalatha, Sel.Gr.II Pharmacist (Main Pharmacy), went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2018 . Mrs Amudha finished her Diploma in Pharmacy in 1991 and joined CMC as Pharmacist in in the year 1998 .She was a silent, committed and God fearing staff who will be dearly missed. Her husband, Mr. V.Milton David lives in Katpadi along with her two daughters, Ms. M.Febi Delphena, persuing B.Sc. Critical Care Therapy, in CMC and Ms. Sherine Vinetha who is studying 9th Standard.
